NJ said he wanted business done early, and people in before pre-season starts, unless I've misssed it, did pre-season start the beginning of June, or is it still beginning of July!!
I'm sure there's talks going on behind the scenes, why do we think we should be entitled to know until the ink has dried!!
FFS chill out!Devils advocate… history on his side?
He gets stick on here for being negative but fuck me how can anyone be positive over the last few seasons.
We have a new manager (not head coach), and a new ownership team who seemed to have a little bit of a wake up call by the January window.
Could it be another crap season? Very much so.But call me old fashioned but I really can’t see the point in making negative predictive sweeping statements about our transfer dealings not being early enough when we have only hit June.
But until we start signing players of a much higher calibre than we have in the last few seasons ( with a couple of exceptions) I shall continue to live in hope rather than expectation.20 -

I'm a sceptical optimist in life and especially regarding Charlton.
Thing is that we haven't signed ANYONE so the page is blank. There is nothing to say our signings are good or bad because there aren't any.
When pre-season starts and still we've signed no one or only an injured reserve from Sutton Utd then we can all have a legitimate moan, me included, but not on 1 June.11 -
Roofe is too injury prone and would want too high a wage for us to justify it. Good player but a luxury that we can’t afford0

Think it's a little premature to be throwing toys out of prams.
But history hasn't really been on the side of the 'let's just hope for the best' crowd. Especially last year when anyone critical of the summer window was shouted down because the takeover had just happened.1 -
Jones said he wants most of the squad together by the time they come back. That needs to be achieved. There's still plenty of time, but next month will have to be a banger.1

We are now leaving May - a month after the season ended and we are lighter than we were at the start as we have let players go but not recruited any.
Once again, "getting our business done early" seems to be just words. As they say, talk is cheap.
I'm still expecting a number of signings before July. I just dont think they will be the quality or enough of them to mount a promotion challenge.1 -

The only time Bobby Zamore and Roberto Carlos have ever been mentioned in the same sentence.0 - Sponsored links:

Career has fallen a bit Flat , but I always felt that he was more than gable to play at this level.3

To be fair I get the sense that no one will be happier to be proved wrong than @golfaddick, but his deadline seems to move forward every year!0

Bloody hell, we've missed out on Lyle Taylor now - going to AFC Wimbledon!1

IMHO we shouldn’t be that surprised if one or two do turn up.
I think a few of us have taken what he said a bit too literally.
For example, if Rak Saki were to be available I’m pretty certain we’d at least be interested.🤞0 -

Always want the majority of the squad assembled before they go away on their overseas bonding trip. Then a few more on before season starts. Last couple (usually loans) before end of August.
Go back over the past summer transfer threads & you'll find I am very consistent on this.
This time the manager actually agrees with me & had publicly said so. Just hoping he is as good as his word as we need 6-8 players in this month. Then another 2 or 3 before the season starts.
And before anyone starts "but x,y&z haven't signed anyone yet..." it might have escaped your attention that maybe, just maybe, we have to sign more than most other clubs BECAUSE WE HAVE TO REPLACE A LOT OF USELESS PLAYERS WHO NEARLY GOT US RELEGATED LAST SEASON.
And breathe.....21 -
In an ideal world Golfie you are right of course, and we all hope and pray that you will ultimately be proved correct...we certainly do need the new faces asap, and I personally feel that Nathan will get it sorted in time,...
As in that well used phrase,... "It's the hope that gets you in the end".0 -

All positive posts welcome.
All negative posts not welcome.
Enjoy your echo chamber if that happens.16 -
Surely the whole point of this thread is hearing differing opinions, and adding to or subtracting from the discussion,...Glass half full or Half empty stuff, the consensus is to get whats best for the club, this we can agree on...can't we3

If people want to be negative they're allowed to comment just the same as you are. The difference is some people have 'decided' negative posts aren't allowed and effectively tell those people to leave. We have someone literally on this page telling someone to emigrate based on their post ffs.
If we had a complete echo chamber where only positive posts were allowed perhaps we'd still be under Roland rule or Sandgaard. People are allowed to say the club is/might be making mistakes. It doesn't affect anyone's lives or what actually occurs on the pitch/in the summer.11 -

Must be because Rotherham is such a nice place to live.
To be fair, I wonder how many of our players live in Charlton?
