Oman tied with Namibia (Namibia win Super Over by 11 runs)
  • South Africa v Sri Lanka this afternoon might be an interesting one, think group D is the nearest we have to a "group of death" with Bangladesh and Netherlands capable on their day (or capable of losing to Uganda in Bangladesh's case). Otherwise think the group stage will be as you expect, though interesting to see some countries I've not seen before play

Always get one or two upsets in this format, as the shorter games sometimes brings the teams closer together. Only needs one wild innings (like Jones for the USA) and a lesser nation are in with a shout.

But ultimately you'd be very surprised if the super 8 is anyone other than India, Pakistan, Australia, England, NZ, WI, South Africa and then either Bangladesh or Sri Lanka.
  • Presumably, a washout means each side gets a point. A washout for a strong team against a weak team could cause an upset.
  • Sri Lanka have won the toss and choose to bat.

    24-1 from 6 overs

Lots of sideways movement for the seamers early on in New York. Hard to score runs…
  • Really exciting to see a cricket tournament and stadium of this calibre in the US.

Really Impressive for something (as far as I'm aware) was just put together for these few matches. Plus isn't the pitch from Australia? (USA can't grow grass apparently)
  • 31-2, 7.5 overs

    Wicket to Nortje
  • 32-3, 8.2 overs

    Wicket to Maharaj
  • 46-6, 12 overs

Not getting any better for Sri Lanka after they chose to bat.
  • 53-6, 13 overs

Angelo Mathews hits the first six, and only the third boundary, of the innings.
  • Can think of a Dorset 5th-tier player who'd have improved this shower
  • Doesn't look too bad, but ultimately all the stands are just larger versions of the Gillingham away end!
  • SL 77 all out 🙄

Sri Lanka 77 all out from 19.1 overs

South Africa require 78 from 20 overs

    Nortje 4-7 from 4 overs

  • Seeing as the US still cant get used to football God knows what they will think of cricket. I mean, fancy holding a tournament in a country that dont play the bloody game.

  • This wicket really isn't a very good one. I hope that it isn't indicative of all the pitches in the US because matches could become a bit of a lottery.

They do play it though. Yes not in big numbers but it’s growing and this will only help. It’s the biggest possible new market.

South Africa 39-2 after 8 overs

    39 required from 12 overs
  • NRR could be a factor so it is in SA's interest to finish it quickly hence presumably sending in Stubbs (who is 10 off 23 balls when ordinarily he's be on something like 35) then you know this is an extremely difficult surface to bat on. Nothing wrong with a wicket having pace but that combined with irregular bounce makes it a nightmare for batsmen.
  • Pathirana is the modern day Malinga and absolutely lethal with that low arm slingy action

The United States has won the women's world cup four times. The United States played their first cricket match in 1844, 33 years before England.

It's mainly aimed at expat Indians I assume.

The same reason why a lot of cricket is held in places like the UAE.
