Really good game just wish he'd float his kicks more, often puts too much on them.

One REALLY shakey moment he got away with but other than that he was fantastic
    Which was that?
Came out to punch a ball when we had 4 players lining up to head it, he missed the ball and punched Coady instead. Boro player then tried to lob Mannion but luckily didn't execute it

He came through a crowd of players, tried to punch a ball, missed and ended up on the ground at the end with an empty net - Thankfully he got back up quick enough and was able to catch the ball that came into the box

Wouldn't call that REALLY shakey though to be fair, minor mishap which he recovered to with relative ease.
  • Excellent this evening.

If TK did it we'd be discussing it for the rest of the (admittedly short) week. But he got away with it so it's all good.

Only because Kaminski is so bad at box patrol .

Doesn't matter if he's not as good a shot stopper as TK if all the shots are blocked before they get to him!

Yh Kaminski ain’t getting the Number 1 back. Still don’t need if he can save shots but that man catches absolutely everything
He did ok tipping the shot into the bar first half.

For now - it’s his shirt to lose
  • I said after the Stevenage cup game at the start of the season I thought Mannion would get a run in the team sooner rather than later.

Well I was wrong about the timing but hopefully right about the run now.

He should never have been dropped at the start of the season - he did so much to get us promoted. (Remember his superb catching of some really dangerous Orient crosses at Wembley in the last 15 minutes which really took the pressure of us)

Hes a much better all round keeper than Kaminski. Without doubt he deserves to play for the rest of the season.

A great keeper, he always gives that aura of solidity, he was immense in our promotion last season (he looked unbeatable at Wembley)and  I've liked what I've seen this season so far. He deserves to be the main keeper for the rest of the season.

Genuinely think that's so far from the case - for about 3 months TK at the start of the season got away with making one of those types of mistakes weekly without it being brought up.

Wouldn't have to worry about that with TK as he doesn't leave his goal line.

The one he recovered from and caught the ball. He came out got blocked by their player and so flapped at his claim. They then played a ball over the top and he yanked it out of the sky to safety.
  • I am a big fan of TK but Mannion is a good keeper, stepped up to the level l, taken his opportunity and we certainly have competition of #1. Jones has a headache!

He’s a bit of a throwback of a goalie. Commands his area well. Likes to catch the ball rather than parry/punch it. It’s an old skool but I like it. It provides a calming presence and relieves pressure. I think it’s clear the defence looks a bit more comfortable on front of him.

His kicking could be better, but that’s a secondary skill for a goalie, imo - certainly in a team like ours.

The thing with him is, I just don’t feel like I have seen him make a save that has made me go “wow! How did he stop that?”. Bit weird that hasn’t happened in 40-odd games for us. Overall though, I think the pros outweigh any cons around his shot stopping because when we play like we did tonight, with bodies on the line defending, not may shots made it through to the keeper anyway.

I am just pleased that we have two very capable goalies on the books, that hasn't always been the case.

I don’t think we do.  Mannion is a calming influence , bar one moment yesterday .  He’s the better keeper of the two and I hope he keeps his place .  In my view , the best case scenario is that TK moves on in the summer and we sign someone better to compete with Mannion .

I thought this, but is that just good positioning that he doesn't need to make 'worldies' to cover his arse??

Very pleased with his performances since he came in. I have to admit I do feel more comfortable with him at the moment as I think TK had lost confidence.

However, he hasn’t been perfect and his errors just haven’t led to goals. He flapped at a cross last night, played a hospital pass inside the six yard box and made a very strange save in the first half to a low shot. His kicking was also quite poor. He let a cross straight through him v Birmingham.

These things happen. If you get away with it then people forget. It was a good time for TK to come out albeit through injury, and delighted Mannion has stepped up!

His gloves to lose now which is good for the club having competition.

The shot from Whittaker was moving quite a lot and took an awkward bounce, which is why it was an odd save I think, anyway he kept out of the onion bag so that’s all that matters.

Bizarre for anyone to criticise him for that. Like you say it bounced before him and was hit with power. Got his body behind it and kept it out.

Totally agree, it was an awkward one that he dealt with in a slightly unorthodox manner - that's all that matters.

It was a pretty similar strike to the first Devlin goal at home to Pompey that TK couldn't keep out. Fine margins.

What about his fingertip save onto the crossbar last night?

Maybe, but for me it’s more goals like Wrexham’s the other day. It’s not so much that he should save it but I believe there are goalies out there that would have saved it by predicting the shot and moving their feet better. He doesn’t really let in a lot goals that you think he shouldn’t, but likewise he doesn’t keep out many that you wouldn’t expect him to as well.

I like him though. As I said above, he’s overall a very solid and calming presence that I believe the back 5/3 find a bit more predictable and easier to play with.
