I love this lad. And aside from being solid as fuck, hard to get past and strong in the air, one thing I particularly notice about him is his clearances are almost always proper 60 yard leathers into the sky and into their half, complete resets - so often see full backs with half arsed clearances going straight to a midfielders feet or sliced into the stand.

Seems another top lad as well.

A lot of hungry, growing players in our squad who could go far but also who are grateful to be at Charlton, and he’s the epitome of that

Think he’s got a good delivery so offers something going forward. He’s never going to take defenders on 1v1 but that’s what TC is in the team for

Would like to see Edwards get himself in the box and be more of a goal threat when we have the ball on the right, but I’d imagine because of his role he’s told not to stray too far forward

I think overall he’s had a very solid start to the season, been put up against some tough wingers and held his own

I wonder if he has the Mihajlovic/Riise/Elk cannonball free kick in there somewhere

I hope he’s not out for too long.

We could look very light on the left side if he’s out for a period like he was the first couple months of last season.

Who was the LB we had on trial in pre season? Bennett was it? Has he found a club? A short term deal in case Bell or Gilly go down might be sensible
  • Looked like a bad injury, landed very awkwardly and says mountains about his competitive character he tried to play on and take a long throw.

Best of luck for a swift recovery Josh, fantastic player who has that never say die spirit, dare I say- a proper Charlton player and definitely one of our better signings in recent years
  • Bell LWB, Gillesphey LCB seems like the most obvious replacement, but potentially a good opportunity for Fullah/JRC to get some minutes or even bringing Apter in and moving Bree to LWB could be a shout nice to have so many options

Pre game Jones said "a few weeks" but sounds like that might have been guesswork

  • I've always felt we were one defender short. One injury or suspension to a CB, and we won't have any CB cover on the bench at all.

Assume Bell would move back to the back 3 and we'd get Hernandez, Fullah, even Apter to cover LWB.

And Bree could likely play RCB with Apter coming back in, or JRC can play RWB.

There's decent enough emergency cover, which you'd hope won't be needed anyway.

Jones took a couple of hefty head knocks tonight and I was looking at the subs thinking we haven’t got anyone left. JRC the utility man was all.

Would have been fine. Apter or JRC to RWB, Ramsay shifts back to RCB and Bree in the middle.

The depth is there but players cover more than one position, unless we’re desperately unlucky we will be fine

Except Bree had already gone off by the time of the clash of heads one I think.

That was my assumption, Apter on for Jones and the other two slide left one position

If the summer transfer window had still been open this might have been the ideal time to invest in a new LB/LWB someone to compete with Edwards for a first team position.

All depends how long Edwards is out for maybe a new LB/LWB might be a January transfer window target.

Coventry’s in the same boat too hard to bring in a new player his position that improves on what we have unless you can give them first team football.
  • Did anyone in the East stand see his injury in real time? Was it from a poor challenge, or did he twist his ankle going into the challenge? It happened so quickly, and the ref ignored him while he was on the ground.

My view from upper CE. The two players collided mid air - both going for ball - and Josh took the impact on his ankle. The impact was similar to the Clare incident last season though that was malicious, this time it was accidental. I immediately feared the worst.
  • Impact injuries (from other players) usually aren’t too bad, it was clear that the injury came when he landed and I think he knew it was bad. Says mountains he tried in vain to carry on.

It looked bad. He could barely walk when he was coming off.

Just found this from Cawley - quote from NJ:

“He sees a specialist tomorrow (today), so we see where we are. He landed awkwardly and tweaked ligaments on the inside of his ankle, which is a bit of a rare one.”
  • Maybe we'll go back in for Joe Bennett until Jan if he's out for a month or more.

Calling it as 4-6 weeks minimum

At least two weeks are covered by the forthcoming international break.

knowing our luck it'll be the new year
  • Let's hope it is not a season ending injury.

I don't know why, but it feels that something like this could happen to Josh in every game I see him play. I can't quite work out why though!

Jones saying it was ankle ligament damage leaves a recovery timeline very open depending on the severity it can be 6 weeks to the end of the season. Hoping the fact he was able to walk over and take a long throw in before he could continue will mean it’s more likely the former

Where was this? Unusual for NJ to go into detail about injuries.

Post match interview w Rich it’s not that much detail to be fair because without seeing a specialist and knowing how bad it is still leaves the severity of the injury completely open
