  • Glad we’re mixing it with the ‘big boys’ now, wake me up when we’re in the final, and the competition sponsor has changed for the 3rd time.

I was thinking it's speeded up along with Charlton's manager changes. The cup name, not your pants. I wouldn't know about that.
  • To finally make this competition more interesting it should reward virtue in the event of a draw and scrap penalties

The Vertu Virtue Trophy - in the event of a draw teams score points based on the following:

Getting the ball for the opposition and putting it in the right place
Signalling to the réf that the corner, throw in or goal kick should be for the other team.
Getting up within 5 seconds after falling down - one extra point if you say to the ref ’ah, it’s nothing - it’s a man’s game after all’
When injured, accepting the bucket and sponge as quick treatment.
Accepting all référée decisions however obviously bad  - one extra point if you say ’I disagree but it’s swings and roundabouts I suppose.’

Very good :D Many of those changes are because the sponsor changed their name! Between 84 and 92 it's the same company which made Sherpa vans, who returned in 2000 for another stint when called LDV Vans. So they sponsored it for 15 years in total, while JPT had 11.

I'm guessing Auto Glass and Auto windscreen are the same too, as with BSM and Vertu.

Not a problem you get with the more important trophies, sponsored by bigger names like Barclays, Coca-Cola and Emirates...

A new English professional record for most penalties taken in a shootout was set on Tuesday as Aston Villa's Under-21 side beat Blackpool 18-17 in a marathon effort to advance in the Vertu Trophy.

Peterborough beat Birmingham in the final. A disappointing league season for them, but a Wembley win and trophy isn't to be sniffed at. 71,722 there to see it.

Feel sorry for Tyler Young only played 27 minutes for Peterborough against Stevenage and was brought into the squad vs his Dad (never to make it on). He'll probably leave

Let's be real we're not getting to Wembley in the FA or league cups in a hurry, so as rubbish as this tournament is, it's 1 of the 2 chances we have of getting there.
I had this chat at work the other day, with my colleague, he said top 6, or a trophy. I said Top 6 > any competition. I'd rather Wembley via play offs than the FA, League cup, L1+2 cup. If there is no chance of Top 6 by February, and we get to the quarters then let's go all in, however till then focus should be on the league.
It’s November & there’s no chance of top six. Hope this helps.

I say go all in on this competition, give us a day at Wembley (we normally win there too!)

Glad we’re mixing it with the ‘big boys’ now, wake me up when we’re in the final, and the competition sponsor has changed for the 3rd time.

Well if we go to Wembley this year it is for the right reasons not these ones.

Probably getting promoted, then becoming league champions was a bit too much for them. They probably didn't pay attention to the little league (un21, one+two) cup.

If you are in genuine promotion contention this competition doesn't matter, but taking the last 3 years for example, an EFL Trophy win would have been a nice consolation in otherwise rubbish campaigns.

I think Peterborough could be contenders again next season. Their attack against us looked full of pace and dynamism. Poku pulls the strings and looks some player.

If they can get some consistency together they will be a force.

I'm just hoping that Peterborough decide to have one of their good days on Friday when Stockport are the visitors.

Really depends on who they lose in the summer. Kypriano is out of contract, Poku sought after, Fernandes the CH likely to leave etc etc.

I suspect that their season has effectively ended now.

Possibly yes but they're only 6 points off the bottom 4 (which admittedly might already be enough) so they'll probably want 1 more win to be sure.

Had a good laugh at the end of this. Lovely to see how graceless they were in defeat. Big scuffle at the end and the manager pointing fingers at various Peterborough players. Alfie May and unsurprisingly Adam Stansfield, were in the middle of it.

You say ‘unsurprisingly’ Adam Stansfield was in the middle of it.

On the contrary, I think that’s very surprising indeed.

Completely disagree. He is the sort of bloke who could start a fight in a locked empty room. Was at it in both the home and away fixture this season and Steve Brown described him as a bizarrely angry man.
