  • Another year, another financial farce allowed for Chelsea.

If you remember last year the owners sold a hotel to themselves to get around PSR. Well this year they've sold the women's team to themselves for well over 100m to get around it. The women's team has been 'sold' from Chelsea FC to the owners’s parent company BlueCo, allowing them to record a profit of 129m.

Imagine the uproar if this was Newcastle or Man City.
The valuation of the women's team hasn't been agreed yet by the PL according to The Times.

Christina Philippou, a professor in accounting and sport finance at the University of Portsmouth specialising in women’s football, said her estimated valuation for Chelsea Women was between £50million and £80million. Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert, said he would have expected a valuation of between £20million and £30million.
I know the women's game is growing at a fantastic pace, but £100m is a lot more than I thought a team would be worth.
  • Arsenal centre back Gabriel is their latest player to succumb to long term injury. He's torn his hamstring and requires surgery.

Chelsea v Spurs has just kicked off, should be a good game. First time in months that Spurs appear to be at full strength.
  • Pathetic from Colwill. Guys about 6ft 3 and rolling around the floor after a shove by Romero.

I’ve always laughed it off when Spurs fans complain about Alan Smith being biased when he commentates on their games, but I’ve really noticed it tonight. Granted, they’re not looking great, but everything he’s said has been critical of them or dismissive. It’s a bit weird.

    Oh! He’s not happy now!

Edit: Actually he’ll be very happy! 🤪
  • Taken VAR about 10 minutes to rule out 2 goals
  • Oh that is so embarrassing from Ange, cupping your ear to fans about a goal that gets ruled out

As I said earlier, I dont know how he is still in the job.

16 defeats in 30 games is nothing short of disgusting.

    23 points behind Forest

Behind Palace, Brentford and Fulham, indeed only GD is stopping them being the lowest London side in the PL...
  • I'm not going to go into full chapter and verse but i'll say what I put in our whatsapp group.

Ange had just over a week after the international break to prepare the team for Chelsea.  Yet 40 seconds in, they've turned us with a lofted ball down the middle between Romero and vdV and we're all at sea.  After 40 seconds.  That shouldn't happen at any level let alone PL.  Its like they dont get coached.

There's been far too many low points this season but there's no going back when the manager turns on his own supporters.

I'm wanted Ange to work out.  He's been unlucky with injuries but his tactics are flawed and have been since after 10 games in last season.

44 pts from the last 39 games.
16th defeats this season in 30 PL games with Liverpool & Villa away, Forest at home to name a few.  It could well be 20 defeats at the end of the season.

I've got more faith in Ryan Mason trying to get a tune out of them than Ange.

He has to go and it has to be now!

His tactics do often come under criticism (from me included) but do you not think something like that is on the defenders?

Romero and Van de ven are international footballers, Romero has won a World Cup and they're getting caught out like that.

  • What do you think of Ange’s ultra defensive post match interviews @JohnBoyUK ?
The first few I thought were fair enough as he was reacting to a tough run. But it’s every time now and he’s coming off as a spoilt child and a bit of a bully imo.

From a neutral point of view, I found Ange refreshing for quite a while. His interviews and reactions seemed quite genuine and he demonstrated humour, intelligence and self awareness. I think he came across as a normal bloke doing a difficult job and I liked him.
It feels like this has got very old now though. He still comes across quite genuinely, but he’s straining under the pressure that comes with failure. His interviews are more spiky and humourless and it’s become difficult to appreciate him or empathise with him.

I always suspected he might not be a great fit for Spurs anyway because his style of play suits a team that is streets ahead of their rivals (like Celtic) and can afford to make occasional rickets. Spurs are not that.

He’s surely gone soon, but Spurs will never improve until they restructure above the manager.

This is very true but i think it's pretty obvious that Levy isn't leaving anytime soon, so what next for Spurs? Ange is obviously going to leave. Maybe they'll go for Thomas Frank or Iraola?

Yeah, probably in all truth.  But the way Ange sets up the midfield, time and time again

Agree with all of that.  When Ange first came in, he was a breath of fresh air with how he handled the media but he's been under pressure for the last season and a half.  He's been dealt a rough hand with the injuries in both seasons (more this than last!) and he has been feeling the strain.  I get he was sick about talking about the injuries and stuff but anyone with an ounce of common sense says you adapt your tactics for the players you've got available.

I've lost count of the number of times we've heard 'we're were not up to the levels required today/tonight'.  Its just not good enough.

I'm just amazed that he has survived as long as he has.  The only thing I can think of is that he's got some kind of contract break clause in there for the end of the second season so he can go with minimal compensation.  It's bordering on gross negligence that Levy has let this drag out as long as he has in my opinion.

...but Spurs will never improve until they restructure above the manager.
    Nail on head, sadly.
  • I wonder if Spurs would be willing to spend the kind of money that an Iraola appointment would need? Feels like a major departure from Angeball.

Frank I could see as a more likely move.

Why would any decent manager leave a team in a higher position than Spurs to take the Spurs job?
    - Meddling senior management
    - Players not paid anywhere near the same levels as other 'big' clubs
    - A club culture of failure

I don't even think the managers salary will be that good (though could be wrong).

Spurs don't change until Levy goes.

In the case of Iraola the salary would be miles better. Ange reportedly earns 5m a year. Iraola earns 1m a year at Bournemouth, although i'm sure they would give him a pay rise to keep him.

For Thomas Frank the salary difference is much less, but managers will always back themselves and the potential is far greater at Spurs than at Brentford where he's probably taken them about as far as they can go.
  • de Bruyne is leaving Man City in the summer... Big shoes to be filled by the person who replaces him.
  • edited 11:28AM
I would assume he's going to San Diego in MLS, that's been the rumour for the past year or so. Can't see him being a player that fancies going to Saudi.

KDB is easily a Top 5 PL midfielder ever.

Not exactly unexpected. The end of an era. Walker is surely going and i wouldn't be surprised to see Bernardo leave too.

KDB for me is easily the PL player of the last decade.

If Forest can get into Champions League why can't Brentford, Bournmouth.  Going to Spurs is a poisoned chalice and only Porchettinio (nearly) made something happen.

Stones is getting more and more injury prone too, while Ederson doesn't seem the standout keeper he was.

Forest spent the best part of 300m in 2 years to get to where they are. Brentford and Bournemouth won't do that. It's like arguing that Leicester won the league so why can't Brentford or Bournemouth. This season, Forest are an anomaly and next season they'll probably be mid-table.

Realistically Brentford/Bournemouth's ceiling is probably around 8-9th. For Spurs they'll be looking for top 6, regardless of how shit they've been this year.
  • de Bruyne is leaving Man City in the summer... Big shoes to be filled by the person who replaces him.
One of those players I've been happy to spend money to watch.
Been an absolute pleasure to watch him succeed after he was dumped by Chelsea so early on in his career.

I actually agree with you.  In days gone by, you could see managers like Iraola and Frank jumping ship but their Senior Management provide them with a platform that enables them to succeed.  Sadly, whoever comes into Spurs next (presuming Ange falls on his sword soon) will experience pretty much of the same.
