  • Men telling me that a man winning a women’s event is irrelevant.

    Yeah, cheers guys.
She isn't a man. No-one is claiming that she's a man, including those who are claiming that she has a chromosomal irregularity that would make her ineligible for women's sport. The people making those claims have no credibility, but even they don't think she's trans.

The lack of credibility of the IBA doesn't in itself prove that they're lying, neither does the fact that when they held their press conference they couldn't even agree what test they were claiming they'd run that she'd failed. But I want to seem some actual evidence before we start disqualifying people, and I want to know why that evidence wasn't presented to the IOC in advance so that, if one or both of the two boxers isn't eligible, they could have been excluded without ruining the competition for everyone else.
I wasn’t talking about the boxer in question when I said that.
Leaving aside the IBA, the IOC used the fact that this particular boxer was identified as female on her birth certificate therefore her passport says female.
Thats it, that’s the evidence that was deemed good enough.

    Thats not science.
Until real science is used, I refuse to be told by any man that there hasn’t been an injustice here.
Because her parents thought, 20-odd years ago (don’t know exactly how old she is), let’s register our son as a girl so when he grows up he can win a gold medal at boxing.
I presume you haven't watched the video that explains how someone of let's possibly describe them as intersex and possibly looked more like having female genitalia at birth can at puberty develop a male frame, male muscular physique and male genitalia rather than female.
    You presume correctly.
  • I’d like to think this is a more balanced view on the boxing situation

I watched the whole video and Dr Hilton explained why being born & raised as a female can be a nonsense in the case of these 2 boxers.
It really doesn't matter if they are sitting next to you at work or in a restaurant etc.
But I agree with the doctor that it very much matters when they have gone through male puberty have the strength of a man and are punching women in the face.

"Despite being informed of the IBA's test results last year, the IOC has always recognised the boxers as female athletes, insisting that because they were born and raised as women, and are registered as women in their passports, they are eligible for women's competition under their rules".
Look at her record before stating strength of a man. Plenty of women in the pros punch far harder.
I don’t know about the woman from Taiwan but the Algerian has lost quite a few bouts (9) against other women and has very few knockouts (7) on her record of 56 fights. That doesn’t sound like someone with the strength of a man.
  • Looking forward to the closing ceremony; in the meantime I know the BBC coverage hasn’t been the best, but they are great at the various TV montages.
  • So one less medal than in 2012, but only 14 golds compared to 26.
Where are the next Peaty, Hoy, Kenny, Farah etc?

Some of the younger ones were already here in these games.
You win the 🥇for only ever posting negative posts every time.
You can't get any pleasure in watching sport including football
We won more medals than Tokyo and the same amount as London which is 65.
    What glitters isn't always Gold.

GB will never top the gold medals won in London for various reasons including the bar is being raised in so many different sports on the Global stage.

I totally enjoyed the highs and lows and will miss the Games but not the X-factor tears even though competitors who had recently lost a parent it was understandable after the effort put into winning a medal or even being an Olympian.
  • That carpet is going do for someone soon!
  • Where’s our flag?
  • Anyone still awake?
  • The French have put on a superb games,  but they do know how to make an opening and closing ceremony a long drawn out affair.
  • Love Phoenix, top band
  • Have been watching on  BBC but have turned over to Eurosport and the sound and commentary is much better.

  • The sound quality has been awful throughout the ceremony
  • Phoenix have been an excellent addition to this. So many songs from FIFA soundtracks and things over the years.
  • Okay fair play to LA for the Tom Cruise stuff , very clever.
  • Fair play to Tom Cruise for dropping into the stadium, but he's no Mr Bean.
  • Bit odd to have the LA segment all filmed in LA, rather than in front of the athletes in Paris.

Didn’t have enough control over it, and Venice Beach, well why not

Yeah, that was fun. I reckon someone watched that stunt with the Queen in 2012 and decided to put in a few references to it.
  • Ugh I know it's in 'Murica next, but they really know how to make you feel absolutely sick to your stomach about them don't they?

At least. If the final race ends up being 10pm local time that's 5am here

But it meant a long section of the ceremony with all the athletes in Paris stuck watching music on big screens
  • After Nigeria failed to win a single medal at the Paris Olympics, the Nigerian sports minister has apologised and offered to refund all the costs of every fan who travelled to France.

  • Which ones of you think you could do it?
I reckon if you were fully funded you'd defo have a shot at some type of shooting event. No chance on anything else though.
  • I reckon I could do curling.

  • These Olympics have been excellent.
Certainly on a par with London, with the extra glory of a great opening ceremony not confined to the stadium.
For me the finish to the triathlon, with a local to me mixed race competitor winning was the most thrilling event, it was very relatable.

The opening and closing ceremonies were the worst I've seen. The sport, the venues and the backdrops were awesome.
