Really sad news. One of my favourite cricketers, a class player who played in some very ordinary England sides.
I understand why he was dropped in 2005, as he brought too much losing baggage, but it would have been great if he could have experienced a winning Ashes campaign.
RIP I know quite a lot about this having a good mate who was close to him not sure the reason for his death will come out in the media He was a very tortured sole was Graham such sad news met him a few times and a really down to earth nice fella
His England career was ever so slightly before my time (first series was the 2005 ashes) but I saw him play live for surrey quite a few times. Classy player. Was on first name basis with my Dad too which as a young kid walking up to him after he hit a ton at Whitgift to ask for his autograph actually blew my mind when he recognised my Dad! His firm did the Surrey players accounts and he was the partner that looked after them.
Oh this is really sad. I loved him coming in to bat for England, always thought there was a chance whilst he held onto his wicket. A highlight for me of the 1997 Ashes was the massive score him and Hussein put on. I hope the media can respect his families and his privacy as to cause of his passing.
Loved watching him play, with free arms and a care free, lets go for it attitude (no offence but like a slightly rougher version of David Gower) RIP Thorpey
