This new format really takes away the excitement (of both the draw and the actual games)
Disagree - ready to move away from Man City playing the kids in their last two group games because they already qualified…

The draw is difficult to keep up with but the football should be better and once we get to the knockouts it’s the same anywah
They'll still get enough points to qualify early and rest players.

There is incentive to “win” the league and get a seed to avoid other strong teams in the early rounds of the knockouts.

If City play kids in the last game and lose, they hypothetically drop 2nd to 5th & they’ll have to play a top 4 team in the quarter final instead of a semi final.
I don't think teams will care once they know they've got enough points for the top 8.
  • Celtic fixtures: Leipzig (H), Dortmund (A), Club Brugge (H), Atalanta (A), Young Boys (H), Dinamo Zagreb (A), Slovan Bratislava (H), Aston Villa (A)

    Comparing the Arsenal fixtures:
    PSG (H), Inter (A), Atalanta (A), Shakhtar (H), Dinamo Zagreb (H), Sporting (A), Monaco (H), Girona (A)
    to the PSG fixtures:
    Man City (H), Bayern Munich (A), Atletico Madrid (H), Arsenal (A), PSV (H), Salzburg (A), Girona (H), Stuttgart (A)

Seems a bit rough considering PSG were in pot 1 and Arsenal pot 2

I can see it for the top 4 but disagree about top 8. I guess we’ll see when we get to the last couple of rounds of games.

Been quite lucky there getting Leipzig and Dortmund out of pot 1, could've been far worse fro them.
  • Aston Villa fixtures: Bayern Munich (H), Leipzig (A), Juventus (H), Club Brugge (A), Celtic (H), Young Boys (A), Bologna (H), Monaco (A)

  • Stupid format - as was the previous one. Knockout football is the way to go. Obviously not from a financial viewpoint though.
  • Can you run us by all that, just once more please Callum?
  • I think that the question of incentive is there for mid table teams. Where’s the incentive to finish 10th rather than 20th? They should have the play offs so that the teams in 9th to 16th play at home in a one leg affair.

    Sure! :-)

Here’s all the Pot 1 v Pot 1 games… (ie the extra games that UEFA and the TV broadcasters will love because they wouldn’t have been possible under the old format)

    Real Madrid v Dortmund
    Dortmund v Barcelona
    Barcelona v Bayern Munich
    Bayern Munich v PSG
    PSG v Man City
    Man City v Inter
    Inter v Leipzig
    Leipzig v Liverpool
    Liverpool v Real Madrid
  • Some cracking home fixtures for Villa .
  • Celtic will be disappointed they didn't get a big name at home
  • What a time to be a Villa fan.

Six seasons ago they were in the Championship, and are now looking forward to Champions League home games against Munich and Juventus.

Arguably getting top spot ot top two could come down to these fixtures. I think Man City have it easier than Real Madrid, don’t they?
I don’t have too much of an opinion on the merits of these teams. I’m hoping for that to change now BBC have rights.

But you only need to be top 8.

There's not much chance that either City or Madrid will fail to get that.

  • Whoops...
  • UEFA actually doing something good........

The amount clubs can charge for away tickets in Europe's three men's club competitions will be reduced this season, Uefa has announced.

Champions League games will be capped at 60 euros (£50.55), with 40 euros (£33.70) the maximum for the Europa League and just 20 euros (£16.85) for the Conference League.

Next season the Champions League figure will drop to 50 euros (£42.12) with 35 euros (£29.48) for the Europa League.

These caps only apply to visiting fans, not home supporters.

  • Wait there are Champions League games on a Thursday now?

When are Europa and Conference League games, are they not creating a clash and harming their own "minor" competitions?

I think they are doing it in alternating weeks now

Yeah does look to be the case with the Champions / Europa League, looking at the scheduling.

Conference League they dont seem to care about lol!

UEFA originally wanted the group stage to be 10 games each rather than 8.

They accounted for that in the scheduling originally but now have more weeks than they need. So instead they’re doing a couple of weeks where it’s only Champions League, Europa League or Conference League to say they are “showcasing” the smaller competitions.

Most weeks I am guessing they squeeze the Champions League back to Tue/Wed as per previous seasons.
