  • Couldn't live without my dishwasher. Love cooking and create quite a lot of washing up. It runs almost every day. Far quicker to load and unload than wash up and more energy and water efficient too.

When we do our extension I'm considering sticking our current washing machine in the utility room and getting a new integreated one in the new kitchen to have two. So useful for hosting, bbqs, christmas parties, and just friends round for dinner. Get all your prep stuff done and rubbing in one dishwasher and then still have one empty ready to load all the plates and seeing dishes into!
Conversely the missus is a terrible cook but somehow creates more mess from the most simple of meals.
  • I think the dishwasher is the best of all the kitchen appliances. Similarly, we held back for a long time but the time savings are just amazing. I think if I lived alone I could do without now, but we've a houseful so it just makes so much sense.

My parents had a dishwasher but it broke when I was a young kid. They never fixed it. Then I got a place which also has a dishwasher and that also broke down and I've never bothered to get it fixed either. The apple never falls far from the tree.

One thing that really gets my goat now is Facebook and the feed.

I've used Facebook for years to keep in touch with family and friends but the amount of absolute utter crap on the feed now is beyond ridiculous.
Why am I seeing posts from pages I dont even follow?

Having googled, the only way is to go into every single post and block or delete your account all together.

I'm finding myself using Facebook less and less purely because of this.

And its the exact same thing for my Business Facebook page.

    Drives me absolutely nuts.

EDIT >> and even if you feel all determined and spend 30-60mins blocking or hiding the shit, the feed just feels up with even more crap.
My feed is full of stuff I have absolutely no interest in. God only knows why it thinks I do. However, having unwittingly watched a shuffle dance tutorial I am absolutely hooked but still can’t do it.

    Exactly...

Just to prove my point, I've just logged in again to find the following as I scroll down...

Hoops Central (basketball) - American sport is shit.
Mathematics Tutorial - haven't studied maths since GCSE but I was teaching my 5yr old her times tables last night... coincidence?
King Bach - ??? some meme thing
Remember - ??? cant be arsed to read it
She's Not Funny - yeah, you're right, she's not funny, in the slightest.
Mind Core - ??? dont care
Ranking Royals - ??? something about how Royals date.  Like why the hell would I be interested?
Butting Heads - ??? some nonsense
Saddleworth Captured - couldn't give a fuck about Saddleworth and I dont think I've ever been there...
Dull Mens Center - just why?
Headshot Photographers - OK, the first relevant post to me from a group that I actually bloody follow...
And then, only after scrolling through all that absolute crap I get to one post from a friend.

    Like WTF.

Oh and I blocked about 300 Arsenal pages yesterday so not seeing any of that blood boiling stuff today thankfully!

EDIT >> 90 mins later, logged in and first up, She's Not Funny appears again, despite me blocking the entire page 90 mins beforehand.  For the love of f*cking god, what chance have we got!

    Get out! Get out now!
I did and I‘ve never felt better!
Can‘t believe that I wasted so much looking at what other people are doing!
  • Ah, a confession.

If you open your main page and scroll down to feeds, you can select friends and it filters everything out.

I cant find a way to make it default to friends only but its a start!

Even worse, they then pretended there'd been 'popular demand' to release it as actual song, and Tom Grennan performed it at festivals, released it as a single etc.

Don't blame him, bet he was paid an absolute fortune.

Chalk me down as cynical on the 'fans have been urging him' part.  Smacks of 'for all those asking where I got..." on social media when no one has.
  • BBC News sending their main newsreader to report from a place that already has a reporter in place.

Clive Myrie tonight reporting about the LA fires in LA. The cost of sending him over there is ridiculous and presumably he is taking up accommodation that people who have lost their homes could use.
The greater Los Angeles area has 98,000 hotel rooms. Presumably there's enough space for Myrie.
Absolutely right that perhaps the most trusted independent news source globally reports from the scene of the biggest global story with its most senior reporters.
Should Myrie also have stayed away from Kiev in early 2022?
It may well be the case that he is due in the US anyway for the presidential inauguration, although that's an assumption on my part.

Good to see Myrie in Washington for the inauguration.

Newswatch last week reported that complaints had been received about the waste of money in sending Clive Myrie to report on the LA fires when Emma Vardy wad already doing a good job.

BBC is funded by the public and shouldn't be wasting money when it has reporters in place.

This is the inauguration of the President of the USA, the most powerful individual in the world, leader of the largest economy in the world and ultimate backer of western democracy and our own security.

The BBC is one of the world's most trusted independent news organisations, with a reach far beyond these shores in terms of soft global power and the advancement of British interests overseas.

Clive Myrie is one of the BBCs chief presenters and correspondents.

For all those reasons, it's absolutely right he should be there.

He's not just reading an autocue and working a couple of hours a day when the cameras are rolling - he is part of a broad team of reporters working on and delivering the insight that we need to know.

How do you think our national public service broadcaster should cover the world's largest and most important events when those events are overseas?

PS Of course Newswatch received complaints - it's what some people do for fun, but it doesn't make them right.

  • People, (that Audi A5 driver who, yesterday afternoon, decides to do a 180 at the mini roundabout in Bexley village and then turns this maneuver into a 3 point turn), who think its a good idea to do a complete loop at mini roundabouts. I know its a roundabout, as the name suggests but wouldn't it be easier and safer to find an alternative place to turn around?

It doesn't make them wrong either.

The BBC has good reporters in situ, also not reading from an autocue, notably Gary O'Donoghue who is blind. He has excellent knowledge as he lives in Washington and is always reporting on Government matters from there.

BBC local tv stations also have form for wasting money, by having reporters standing outside buildings with a tenuous link to the story being reported. Often they will be reporting on items that happened much earlier in the day, but they stay there to report live in the evening, often standing in the pouring rain. This presumably needs a cameraman as well adding to the cost. The reporter could have returned to the studio or reported from home, this is 2025 and technology needs to be used to stop wasting money.

You have deliberately tried to mix 2 different issues - the MAIN point about going to LA was it was when the fires were raging and attention was needed on containing the fires etc. The relevant observation being we had reporters there and posting more people added no obvious value and was possibly an inconvenience.

What I find amusing now (and possibly beyond any broadcasters control) is the commentators all on outside balconies looking absolutely frozen - no need to be at that specific location when the weather turns to broadcast overnight in the US for a breakfast audience in the UK !  :)

I want the BBC to be the best it can and Clive is the best.

'Need' is a very funny word. They don't 'need' to have any reporters at all. They could take some teenager on as an intern and get them to read out news agency reports from the corner of a darkened room. It would be dreadful, but you'd still get the news.

There is a fundamental problem with BBC News, but that isn't Clive Myrie. It is the structural problem that has led them to lose Maitlis, Sopel, Peston and Goodall. The last thing they need is restrictions on who can go where.

I agree, Clive is excellent, but is his knowledge any greater than that of Gary O'Donohue, the correspondent with the most insight into the workings of the American political system?

I am aware that Clive Myrie has worked as a USA correspondent in the past.

Correct, I did deliberately mix two "issues" (?).

The moan was that he didn't need to be there for the fires, I pointed out that he was likely in the US anyway for the inauguration and therefore no issue with one of the BBCs chief reporters killing two birds with one stone.

Donaghue is an excellent journalist / reporter with deep insight.

But he is not an anchor / presenter. They are two very different roles.

Stig has nailed in in terms of why he is there.
