Alfie May- Progress at Birmingham

Alfie’s season last year can be split into three parts.

May had scored 15 league goals after 18 league appearances last season but tailed off hard through the winter months until he picked up some form again from March onwards.

    15 in 18 -> 1 in 13 -> 7 in 12

He’s already kicked off a relatively barren spell with Birmingham, scoring once in his last five appearances after starting with 4 in 4. They’ll be hoping it doesn’t stretch to 1 in 13.

Meanwhile, I don’t expect anyone to match the numbers Alfie was putting up this time last year. In early December, he was on track for ~38 goals which is ludicrous.
  • Was I dreaming it, or has May already said in an interview that he left due to family reasons?

Yes but we also know Jones didn’t rate him, whether it was a weakness in his game or a personality clash. May was never going to talk about that.

Struggle to understand why someone would use their family to "take one for the team", rather than tell the truth or, better still, just say nothing at all and move on.
  • Alfie May has promised the true story surrounding his Charlton Athletic exit will eventually come out after being subjected to abuse since swapping The Valley for St Andrew’s.

I mean if he is implying the reasons in the video HE made aren't true then he could literally just come out and tell the REAL story now (I'm sure it will turn out that the career highest payday he got for a 31 year old reaching the twilight of his career wasn't the real pull and he would have been happy to stay with Charlton) instead of doing all this cryptic nonsense.

Do i agree with people booing him (I say booing because i didnt see/hear anything above that tbh, certainly nothing which i constitute as abuse) ? No i don't, he did well for us and by far and large, we all know the main reasons he left and fair enough.

Though this is one of the reasons i have a real disdain for us buying local players is that you get a small number of fans who have a personal connection to the player and he can never do any wrong or needs to be put on a pedestal -I.E May, Innis, Solly etc

It's literally true, there may have been other reasons but he literally went on video and said it. thats why people believe it !

I can't believe the amount of conspiracy theorists we have on here, if the government told you the sky was blue you would swear its green.

He made a video saying but clearly we need to get the police involved because he must of been having a gun pointed at him off camera.

There is NO WAY a 31 year old player who has never been on great money, spent a lot of his career at non-league, doesn't even support Charlton, has a wife from the north of England who presumably takes on most of the childcare and would want to be closer to her family would EVER want to leave Charlton to earn a career high payday, on a 3-year contract, be closer to his wife's family and play for a team that is nailed on to win something this year.

I mean apart from the video of him LITERALLY saying it where are the sources ???

Remember guys when your in Kent when you hear hooves consider there may be Zebras near.

He probably had to sign a non disclosure agreement so he is not able to speak the truth……yet

I’m sure it is true, but it’s also not a conspiracy theory to say Jones was happy for him to leave.
It's 100% true, whether he weren't Jones' first choice, and / or he was lured by the money at Birmingham is another matter, the point still stands that the reason he gave for leaving weren't Jones or Methven or the club being w**kers, or even the better offer from Brum, it was to move north to be with his family. So not too sure why there's seemingly more emphasis being put on Jones and the Club wanting him gone, rather than him wanting to go?

I cant tell if this is satirical or not, I sincerely doubt that a league one club is that concerned about a player sayings why he left, its LITERALLY the business of a club to sell and buy players.

Having some experience with with NDA's I'm not even sure if it would be legally enforceable in this situation ? I mean what are they stopping him from saying ? NDA's usually come with some kind of payoff. the club could just as easily say he is lying if he claims he was forced out.

100%, in a previous a post i listed all the reasons for staying and going. For someone who isnt a Charlton fan it really isnt a difficult decision to leave

Nothing satirical about my post, just my opinion on what possibly happened. I fully understand what you are saying but on the flip side I doubt the club wanted Alfie taking to social media saying something along the lines of “Jones didn’t want me and I have been forced out of the club”

The reaction from the fans with him leaving for “family” reasons has been bad enough, imagine if he said the above
  • Recently both May and Jones have come out and said they were being abused by our fans. Where does this abuse take place? I'm not on twitter but is it there? Or are they reading forums? Would be interesting to know and are they actually real fans giving the abuse. I struggle to see it.
  • It will be on Twitter but there are plenty of brave souls sat in the stands and behind dugouts.

Jones got quite a bit of stick at the end of the game in Bristol when he walked over to the fans .  I don’t like it but if you are going that far on a Tuesday night and spend the money , you’re entitled to let the manager know what you think after that performance.
May was obviously booed on Saturday but that’s not abuse .

If he's signed something to effectively potentially throw his family "under the bus", I'd be amazed.

All he had to do in the case of signing any non disclosure agreement (I personally don't think he has), was to say thanks for the memories and support, and not go into any reasons. Looked to me like he's got tears in his eyes during that interview, so it's a pretty convincing cover up

Hardly throwing his family under the bus is he, no names have been mentioned just a nod to his misses wanting to be near family. I am sure when Alfie told her his wages were being trebled she couldn’t give a toss.

Dale Stevens said he was leaving to be near family up north, he signed for Brighton

Is Ahadme really injured or just been dropped, could it be Jones and the club are saving face and telling porkies because our most expensive signing is a dud

It's rife on Social media.  It's a cesspit

There was a absolute bellend on twitter last week saying May's "wife was a whore, and his Dad was a police informant".
Bloody Elon Musk, he really needs to mind his own business.

I see so much horrible stuff online aimed at players by people who don't have the testicular fortitude to say it to their face.  But the sad truth is the players and their families do read it and it does affect them.
Most of the abusive stuff on twitter is usually from faceless accounts with names like Dave3457533. They don't care because you can't see who they are and even if their account was closed, another one would likely be setup soon after with Dave3457544.

Then you have the extreme opposite end of the scale with that Sheffield Wednesday fan who was very much not faceless last week and has since lost his job, been banned for life by the club, banned for life by his golf club, been disowned by half his family and charged by the police.

I'm not ITK re May's personal circumstance but work regularly with confidentiality law and NDA's, I am 100% certain that May hasnt signed an NDA nor would it even be enforceable in this situation.

Ahadme, Stevens ? if you question everything why only things that suit your agenda ? what has Leaburn been up to the last year ? Why did Parker leave ? etc

Yes there's a small percentage of morons who say abusive stuff (like the example you listed) but most of the time it's just an opinion and not abuse, then the players families and friends seem to take it personally on here (and socials).

Case in point would be players like Inniss (and he isnt the only one by far) who at times had seemed to have a cult following on here and couldn't be blamed for anything. What does one constitute as horrible ? I have said before there are players who shouldnt have been at this club (I.E Inniss, Isted etc), would i say that to his face ? I probably wouldnt walk up to him whilst he is with his family or minding his own business but if he asked me directly should i be playing for Charlton I would of told him i dont think he is good enough.

Relatively speaking of course he is. If these theories are to be accepted, he's effectively blaming something that is completely not their fault, on them.

As I said, reckon he'd be more inclined to say nothing than get emotional in the interview and bring his kids education etc into it. Far too elaborate imo

Inniss didn't have a cult following. He had the majority of the site calling him a caveman psychopath liability and blaming him for every goal we conceded, and a small but vocal gang of basically just me observing that he may also have some positive personal and professional qualities too
