    May is a baller.....great touch...two good feet....runs all day long.....great finisher......worst decision ever to let him go.....NJ hasn't got a fcuking clue

I'd not be surprised that Jones was possibly told there was limited funds but feel free to get rid of May to release more money.
I would say that is exactly what happened. Our faceless owners don’t appear to want to fund a proper promotion push so sell our best players to raise the money.

And into the bargain having a manager struggle, who is well capable of being successful with us.

Is that why Jones stopped playing him last season ? There seems to be far too much faith (no pun intended) in Jones from some, its not like we got millions and built a squad with the money !

I think Jones decided he didn’t really fancy May long before the summer transfer window. How else do you explain the best striker in league getting a reduced number of minutes after Jones came in?

It’s not like we got a fortune for May that allowed us to go out and recruit four or five really great players that would enhance the squad overall.
Surely all this is irrelevant, as we all know the real reason he left was to join his family back up north (or halfway there) and to find his son a nice private school. You're not telling me that video was bullshit??

And this is where lies a problem for many, not being given a bundle of money to work with.

Oh we recruited 4/5 players with the money all right, just not very good ones

I think it’s a number of things - it was, unquestionably, a really good opportunity for him for family & financial reasons. But that doesn’t change that he was not getting the same number of minutes under Jones that he got the rest of the season long before there was any interest from Birmingham.

Our former players always seem to score against us....so I fully expect him to score on the weekend against us.
If a striker as bad as Bonne can score for two different rubbish teams in one season against us, imagine what the best striker in the division playing for the best team in the division will do!
Particularly with all his friends and family watching.

Imagine NJ’s reaction to this… at least Alex Mitchell put his header on target when the ball was going in the net already!

  • Alfie May has promised the true story surrounding his Charlton Athletic exit will eventually come out after being subjected to abuse since swapping The Valley for St Andrew’s.

  • Disappointing if he got abused when he left.  We do have some utter morons on Social media (X / Insta etc) who are not good for the club and constantly get at players.
  • Who's been abusing Alfie May?? Some absolute freak shows out there.
The usual freak shows you encounter at games and/or on social media probably.

Maybe one or two but in general nothing untoward on social media. Maybe he means something else
  • Recall him being booed by a few when he came on in the League Cup game

    Not really abuse though
  • Probably referring to a neighbour who was fawning over him when he was a Charlton player who then turned in to Jack Nicholsons character in The Shining once he’d decide to leave

Now that is actually very funny, more like the old oohaah ;)

I found out something quite interesting the other day, how true it is, I don't know. Apparently that video was made when he was going to Huddersfield, not Birmingham. So that version of May speaking thought he was going to be playing for Huddersfield, not Brum.

Doesn't really change much but still found it quite interesting, makes me wonder if anything would have been different in his words if it was the Birmingham move.

  • Reading between the lines, Alfie May sounds like he's hinting there's a bit of drama behind the scenes.

He credited the club itself, said we had a good coach, and fans, didn't once mention the owners.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but he comes across a bit hard done by there.

Makes the moving closer to home thing make more sense but not much else

Think there definitely were some issues but he’s hardly going to say “Jones is a bastard who hated me”, he will have seen how poorly Bielik’s remarks came across too

But he has already said that to fans. (He did not use a derogatory word, simply that Jones did not rate him) .
@oohaahmortimer reposted the story yesterday having first posted it several months ago. I don’t know why more people didn’t focus on it. Maybe because they haven’t met Oohaah personally. He’s very different to what you might imagine from his typical posts. So I took him seriously first time round, and everything I saw on the pitch subsequently backed up the story.

I cannot even dare to imagine we will get anything but a hiding tomorrow. If that’s how it goes then I for one hope he plays and shows everyone how wrong Jones got this.

3-2 to us with Alfie getting theirs would be my ultimate dream but right now the chances of us getting 3 against anyone look remote.

You’re an intelligent man, surely you know the difference between what someone says to fans and what they say to the media?
  • We probably cannot know what Alfie May would or wouldn't have done as his contract run down but I am pretty certain that Charlton would have tried to get a fee for him before that contract run out, so for me the club and Jones took a look at where the situation would leave us in the January window probably decided that with a year left on his contract £750000 was never going to be beaten. That being said, you have to look at what the team looks like without Alfie May, in my opinion, I still think he would struggle to score in a team that is not creating chances, this happened when CBT left and when Jones took over Alfie's scoring rate resumed, we had brought in a number of players in the January window but I'm convinced that Alfie May's prolific scoring rate resumed because we actually found a replacement for CBT, almost by accident, we signed Thierry Small on a short term deal. One of the reasons we have not created the chances we managed to create towards the end of last season is Thierry Small's lack of form, lack of game time or whatever is causing him not to be the player we signed last year. Check the goals for column and the stats of chances created this season, both have fallen off the scale, I'm convinced that this has played a part in Jones's team tinkering, he knows, as others on here have stated, that we have a lack of creativity in the squad and he's trying to overcome it with so far disastrous results. As for Alfie May, he's gone, rightly or wrongly we have to get on with it.

I'm pretty sure there was a plus one year option we could have triggered so there was absolutely no rush to cash in (if that's what you want to call what we got for him cashing in)
