There was a absolute bellend on twitter last week saying May's "wife was a whore, and his Dad was a police informant".
I see so much horrible stuff online aimed at players by people who don't have the testicular fortitude to say it to their face. But the sad truth is the players and their families do read it and it does affect them.
Case in point would be players like Inniss (and he isnt the only one by far) who at times had seemed to have a cult following on here and couldn't be blamed for anything. What does one constitute as horrible ? I have said before there are players who shouldnt have been at this club (I.E Inniss, Isted etc), would i say that to his face ? I probably wouldnt walk up to him whilst he is with his family or minding his own business but if he asked me directly should i be playing for Charlton I would of told him i dont think he is good enough.
The vast majority of people here would say he was liability due to his temperament and his inability to concentrate for a full 90s mins (both of which are evidentially true in my opinion), and it wasnt just you, there was a small number of people who clearly had connections to him and would complain that fans had a negative opinion of him as a footballer and would counteract every instance of criticism with "YoU WouLDNt SaY THAt to HiS FAce tHo" or make excuses for him to blame others.
As for him as an individual, I don't know him but know people that do and by all accounts he is a very nice chap and he did a lot for the community stuff whilst here, I wish him no ill will and im glad to see this season is going well for him so far. I wish him all the best.0 -

Do i agree with people booing him (I say booing because i didnt see/hear anything above that tbh, certainly nothing which i constitute as abuse) ? No i don't, he did well for us and by far and large, we all know the main reasons he left and fair enough.
Though this is one of the reasons i have a real disdain for us buying local players is that you get a small number of fans who have a personal connection to the player and he can never do any wrong or needs to be put on a pedestal -I.E May, Innis, Solly etc
All he had to do in the case of signing any non disclosure agreement (I personally don't think he has), was to say thanks for the memories and support, and not go into any reasons. Looked to me like he's got tears in his eyes during that interview, so it's a pretty convincing cover up
Dale Stevens said he was leaving to be near family up north, he signed for Brighton
Is Ahadme really injured or just been dropped, could it be Jones and the club are saving face and telling porkies because our most expensive signing is a dud
Football clubs tell the fans what they want to hear, not the truth
Ahadme, Stevens ? if you question everything why only things that suit your agenda ? what has Leaburn been up to the last year ? Why did Parker leave ? etc
You clearly have your opinion on the subject and I bow to your superior knowledge of NDA’s
However there is no call to be sarcastic with the Leaburn and Parker comments so wind your neck in!

MORE THAN ONE THING CAN BE TRUE AT THE SAME TIME!
Nathan Jones wasn't keen on May, for reasons that we can suspect, but not know for certain.
This is clear to anyone that saw May dropped/left out and also being subbed.
May would obviously be unhappy if the manager didn't "fancy him" and he wasn't pretty certain of starting.
May's wife was also unhappy living in Kent and wanted to return north to live closer to her parents/family in Doncaster.
Huddersfield came in for him - bingo.
Charlton/Nathan Jones can receive @£650K to help rebuild the squad.
Alfie can move north with a happy wife, which will also make him happy.
A big pay rise will also make them both even more happy, one would assume.
Plus Huddersfield were top 3 favourites.
Then Brum came in and offered Charlton more and May considerably more.
May takes a massive life changing pay rise and May and his wife will have to suck up whatever the arrangements they have for him getting to Brum daily.
The end.31 -

(I'm not suggesting May did say he would "down tools").0 -
I get the feeling, and I'm not the first to say this, Nathan Jones wants a more reliable forward as in one that will do what he tells them to do. I get the impression Alfie does what he does in a similar vein to how Wayne Rooney would work to his own agenda. The problem Alfie brings with him is he pretty much guarantees goals at this level. I'd never question Alfie Mays commitment, work ethic or desire to win in fact they are 3 of his best attributes but I reckon playing for a purist coach like Nathan Jones would be fractious for the pair of them in time. So I imagine Alfie could say he felt pushed out. I don't think any of us begrudge him the move and the life changing size of the contract, he gave it everything for us in a truly awful team and season. I wish he has stayed, I love him and he can do his story on undr the cosh when he packs up, he doesn't need to spice up an otherwise pleasant relationship between charlton fans and him by saying he was forced out10

Birmingham just don't go knocking on doors that are closed , they know they can get em cos they're available
Otherwise they'd be tapping up all the decent players here there and everywhere .5 -

This was only amplified by watching Alfie on the opposing side for Birmingham at the weekend. He plays where he wants, and tbh, was probably why he was hooked off at HT. I wouldn't go as far as to say he is uncoachable, but given his age and goal return, I just think he thinks he knows best when he is on the pitch and this is probably what annoyed NJ. I also suspect there may have been a few dressing room disagreements as a result, but we'll probably never know.
This led to the door for Alfie being open to a move in the summer via his agent, Huddersfield starting the bidding and then Birmingham giving silly money on wages. The only thing that I dislike about this is that we didn't hold out for a bigger fee and we got our pants pulled down. When they dropped £silly on Stansfield, we look like the mugs. I think Alfie was always going to go because of the relationship with NJ more than anything else.
It was always a big call for NJ to make, but one he needed to make to ensure that the squad knew no one player was more important than NJ and his structure.6 -
I think we let him go “cheap” because Nathan/Charlton needed the fee quickly for the rebuild.3

You can sell an asset for decent value and then piss it all up the wall, you still had a decent deal1 - Sponsored links:

Why is it so hard to accept that yes inside the box he’s as clinical as can be, but outside of that, he’s just a really shit footballer? Like every other part of his game is absolutely naff. And i’m not being hyperbolic when i say that.14

Similarly, the flip side is making it sound like we just sold the League One Messi.
An excellent league one goal scoring poacher for sure, all the other stuff yeah, not so sure.0 -
My frustration refarding Alfie based on what I saw last season is when things may not be going right and he isn't getting goals it feels like he is chasing them too hard, a bit like a headless chicken at times. Of course his desire for goals is probably the reason he gets so many so it is something you just have to accept.1
