I mean we have a set of players and a squad that on paper is on a par with any in world football.
Being managed by Lee Carsley.
ahem.
We've said that for years with England. Maybe a lot of players aren't as good as made out to be.
I don't buy this at all. 7 of last nights starting lineup play for Man City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Most people would agree that City and Madrid are the best 2 teams in the world. Arsenal and Liverpool would probably be in the top 7-8. Usually we also have Kane who is one of the best centre forwards in the world, playing for one of Europe's top sides.
Then you add Palmer to that, who is currently one of the best players in the Premier league.
The issue isn't the quality of the players because you don't play for those clubs if you are not an elite player.
Yes, it’s true that we have some players at top club level but we do we have as many as other top countries?
Does anyone who spout this argument ever look at the other teams and see that they too have players who play for Real Madrid, Man City, Bayern Munich etc?
I sometimes look to compare us with France and most often they have more than us.
First of all, you need to establish who the top clubs are. You mention Arsenal but they’ve never ever won The European Cup.

I don't think anyone would disagree that France have good players who play for top teams. Spain and Portugal do as well. But that doesn't take anything away from the point i made regarding England.
I also don't think many would disagree that Arsenal are amongst the best sides in the world right now. Of course i'm aware they have never won it, but there's a reason they are in the top 4 of the betting odds to win it this season.
Like Southgate before him, Carsley fitted the FA model that has ultimately bought a large amount of success over recent times. He's relatively wet behind the ears as far as management goes, as was Southgate. He has come through the FA system as did Southgate. They were always going to give him a run at it.
The difference being unfortunately for Carsley is that English football was on its arse when Southgate took over. We were a lost cause and people had given up. Time and expectation was on his side It's a far far different beast these days. Expectation is through the roof after the good work that Southgate did. It's no job for a rookie.
Put it this way. If Southgate had followed someone who had the same influence and success he went onto have he wouldn't have been up to it either!
