With manager Nathan Jones serving a touchline ban and forced to watch from the stands, Charlton arrived in Yorkshire looking to build some momentum. Charlton started brightly, with MIles Leaburn making his first start of the season, but it was Barnsley who came closest, striking the woodwork and forcing a clearance from off of the line. Charlton had some nice passages of play going forward and had their own chances, but it was the home side that opened the scoring, perhaps against the run of play, on thirty-four minutes.
The second half was much the same as the first. Both times probed back and forth against the backdrop of a subdued audience of about twelve thousand. Some substitutions were made for both sides, including Luke Berry who came on after sixty-two minutes and scored on seventy-seven minutes to bring Charlton level. At that point, there wasn’t much quality on display as the two teams largely cancelled each other out.
All of the decisive action was confided to the final minutes of the match. A mix up at the back for Barnsley in added time gave Charlton the opportunity to pull ahead when Tyreece Campbell wafted a cross into the centre of the box and their keeper fumbled his punch to gift Luke Berry his second goal. Unfortunately, just two minutes later Barnsley found a leveler through Watters stabbing home from within the box.
This team isn’t good enough but for mid table obscurity. Continuing the trend of last season, we’re mostly only able to draw games we should be winning. There are at least a couple of missing pieces of real quality needed to get us into the upper echelons. It’s set to be a frustrating season again.

Good job Jones moaned at the fans the other week. 1 win in 6

Only Charlton could come back from 1 nil down in added time and concede instantly. It’s a joke but nothing new.34

On balance you take a point, but bloody hell when you score to make it 2-1 in the 93rd minute you really should be able to hold out for a win66

Hard to put into words how bad we were at times during the game - our defending was shambolic. Having got a completely undeserved lead we still managed to throw it away.
Some of our play was embarrassing to watch.19 -
Good teams find a way to win when they play badly. We should have been 3-0 down, got handed the smash and grab on a plate and still bottled it. Genuinely grim performance and a point really papers over the cracks of what we saw tonight.16

I've got a cold... I enjoyed having a cold more than I enjoyed that from around 30-70min
At least until we decided to get our arses briefly in Gear, before...4 -
Ffs thought we'd won when I saw Berry score the second and only 2 minutes left.4

As pissed off as I am about the equaliser there’s no way we deserved 3 points. Berry showed the decision making and quality I was expecting from him for possibly the first time this season.8

It all seems a bit half hearted. Simple balls not reaching their target. Standing off opponents like it is a training ground exercise. About 75% of second balls not being won or even competed for.13

As the season goes on, it’s getting harder and harder to warm to quite a few of these players.
No fight, nor tactical nous to them- hard to build a team when injuries consistently play a part too!Didn’t deserve anything from the game, but to be 2-1 up with two minutes left- why on earth leave knackered players to defend what was likely to be an areal bombardment- Doherty should have been on straight after berry’s second.8 -

The ultimate joyless club offered the briefest glimpse of surprise enjoyment before immediately slapping itself round the chops and putting a swift end to all that nonsense.55

Would have taken a point before the game I guess. Gutting to chuck it at the end though.
Where is Dan Potts? It was clear Gillesphy was not good enough last season.
Imagine spending £25M, not owning the ground or training ground and having trusted Andy Scott with so many transfers. It's a genuine wonder to me how the bloke is still employed. We are not going anywhere whilst he has a say on transfers.19 -

We will lose at Southend we are shit people getting excited on here when we went 1-2 never in doubt1

So close to a totally undeserved win but even with 3 minutes left i always thought they would get that equaliser.
We were extremely poor tonight so i suppose a draw away from home isn't the worst result.
Our subs in Berry , Small and TC caused them problems. The rest were off their game.
On to saturday2 -
Would have been our biggest robbery since Jackson's deflected winner at Norwich. Still feels like we robbed them a bit. A lot of passengers today, concerning14

I would have taken the draw before the match but disappointed not to take the three. Poor performance. No shape, no width, no real attacking options. Roll on Wrecksum1
-
Missing Lloyd Jones badly. Gillesphey not good enough and Mitchell not looking as good alongside him.17
-
It's abuse at this point - I feel like I'm locked in the cupboard under the stairs with a black eye having been beaten up again for cooking the "wrong" dinner.

Really looking forward to the transfer window.11

Was desperate for this season to be a good one but we just don't look good enough. The glaring lack of quality in pre-season hasn't gone away. We're miserable to watch for 80 mins of every game. We can't keep trying to get points in the last 10 mins of a football match. But I don't see this turning round without an injection of 'real quality', and that means not having defensive mids playing attacking mid roles.

You and Nathan Jones,
You’ve got a thing going on,
You all know has gone wrong,
And it won’t be long, till you let him go
Let his ego outweigh, that of Alfie May,
Kick off comes, and we know he won’t be there,
Wringing his hands, Jones desperate for plans,
The supporters can tell him what’s wrong
You and Nathan, Nathan, Nathan Jones,
Nahan Jones, Nathan Jones, Nathan Jones,
How much longer, to go on?
He just don’t belong
Time he were gone, so just let him go now

We didn’t deserve 3 points but I would have happily taken them. Poor all over the pitch and tough to watch.
I selected 7th to 12th pre season and I can’t see anything to suggest otherwise5 -

Poor again, so much so that I honestly can't even feel too bad about that late equaliser as if we'd gone in as 3-0 losers I wouldn't think it was massively unfair. Usual problems; start well but don't develop any sustained pressure to get a goal. Leaburn could have squared in the first two minutes and we would have had the lead but we don't look like shutting games out anymore so all the good that would have done. We don't give up and we grow into games, but bloody hell it's a tough watch up to that point. TC off the bench is a menace and I think Leaburn and Godden is the way forward, Godden just has to remember to put the ball away from the keeper, was very BWP with his straight line finishing at times. It's interesting how tight it is in the league. If we'd held on another 2 minutes we'd be 5th. As it is we're 11th but still only 1 point off the Play-Offs which is a good place to be no matter what. We need to get better, need to find a spark somewhere or we'll draw our way to finishing just outside where we need to be. The good thing about this team is they give you a lot of time to think. I'll take dull winners, can't really be dealing with dull draws though, I'm depressed enough as it is. Fingers crossed for positive change17

we are a horrible team to watch, berry 2 moments of excellence cover over a horrific performance, we didn't deserve a win, and was not even confident we would hold on5
-
Three points would have had us in fifth position. That sums up the quality of this league.9
-
Good to see a game between two honest sides (Stockport and Blackpool please note) and to be honest a point was more than we deserved, although nice to see our effort being rewarded for once.

Gillesphey is one of the worst Charlton players I've seen. Runs like he is in treacle and for a defender, can't read the game which is a massive concern. Get shot of him in January and get Z Mitchell or Potts in.8

Crap bunch of players being told to play a really horrible style of football, is it even a style. The team is awful and even if we had won that it's not going to get any better this is us for the season under the welsh wizaard. Horrible football, horrible tactics, horrible players. It's exactly the same as last season when we was playing to stay up, cancel out the other team and hope to nick a lucky goal.
Going to say it again how he came in to the season with no wingers and no attacking midfielders is just mental. He finally plays 2 proper strikers but no fucker is there to feed them. He then takes the striker off for a winger ffs.
How he played Alan Campbell for 90 minutes is just beyond me, what the fuck was he watching he was proper shit and out of puff after 50 minutes. We are going no where this season and Jones is to blame, Selling May and bringing in all his Luton mates and other crap he managed before has killed us.22
