  • There could be 1 really easy fix. Wont cost a penny & if it doesn't work then we wont have lost anything.

    Just wear red.
  •  :D
My take is that Jones MUST know how shit this is. And therefore he needs another transfer window to show he can fix it. Leave it till summer and if we aren’t playoffs he’s got to go
You seriously think we have a chance of the play offs ? :D
  • If it had been a simple - no trains for several hours - message at Huddersfield I would have got in a taxi to Leeds, got my bag from the hotel and caught my train.

Instead by waiting for mythical trains, which then were cancelled, despite the taxi I just missed my train . A load of waiting and being passed around, so no chance of any indirect trains home. Instead I'm on a train to Derby, where a taxi will be laid on hopefully...
    To London?

Blimey I hope you're not paying g for that!
  • 12 months ago, Dobbo was doing the graft in midfield and May was nicking goals.
Now nobody is grafting in midfield and some players are nicking a living.
    At the game. ☹️
Phil…..to a man at the final whistle they all collapsed dead on their feet. They were clearly absolutely shattered.
One thing that came out of today’s performance was that they certainly did at least put in a monumental effort.
Sadly we didn’t match the effort with any worthwhile football.
A dreadful game from two very average sides…..no guile or creativity from our mid field whatsoever.
There’s not a single star player in the side at present who gets you on the edge of your seat when they are in possession.
Boy oh boy, do we need one. 🫤
If they were shattered then that doesnt bode well for Tuesday night, quite a quick turnaround for another away game,a must win game at that, for our injury hit squad

If you asked me before the season started if we would even get a point away to Huddersfield i'd have said maybe but probably not. Even if we were in the top 2.
Exactly. I never understand the meltdowns after results against teams you’d never expect us to beat or even take a point off anyway.
My view is that fans should expect a Charlton athletic team to beat Div 3 teams and challenge for promotion. That’s the point. The fact that we don’t beat them or don’t expect to beat them is not the fans’ fault, it’s a barometer of how far we have fallen and a sign we are accepting that as a norm. We should expect and certainly deserve better than the shit served up over the last 4 years.  I’m good with people being disappointed/cheesed off, it means they care and want better, and it’s not just Huddersfield, is it? Last 10 games we are equal 2nd bottom of the form guide, that’s relegation form.
Many people don't think we'll win next Saturday against a League 2 either.
Indeed - hence I am not going - one look at their form recently, and having watched us (suffered watching us) over recent months, no thanks - going to see my Mum, who is cooking lunch for us - much more enjoyable

Oh OK. Rinse and repeat it is then.
No why, learn not to choose managers on dubious past records, we need a younger manager who understands the game as it is now not how it was, the clubs attitude needs updating.
    How about getting better players?
If only it was so easy... All the talk about having the fourth biggest budget in the League (as mentioned by others). But since Jones came in, two of our best players Ramsay and Small have cost a combined 200k (If you believe TransferMarkt) with one being a Free Transfer.

Whilst one of our worst signings could end up costing us 1m, if you believe rumours
I not sure that the jury has returned regarding Ahadme FA but there are some other signings that deserve scrutiny. Five years ago Luke Berry, Alan Campbell, Dan Potts, Danny Hylton and Greg Docherty would have been very good signings, five years is a long time in a players career and they are clearly reaching the Autumn of their careers and in Hylton's and Potts case they probably can't believe their luck. In all but one of those cases, those players were brought in because they 'get 'Nathan Jones' and they have all performed well for him in the past, but the past is the past and there are no guarantees about the future. Apart from Potts and Hylton, the rest have been left out at some point through a lack of form, and certainly nobody on here would imagine that they have performed consistently well so far this season. My point is, these were the players that Jones wanted, and my view is that they were brought in because he could trust them, but that's five players, who have arguably, been our worst performers this season and all apart from Hylton would have been drawing a championship wage or higher last season. We are doing no better than last season, I would like to ask what has, possibly, the five highest earners in a massively inflated squad, brought to this club ?
I think it's fair to say that winter has arrived  :#
  • we’re on our way, we’re on our way
to (lower) mid table mediocrity, we’re on our way..

I’d like to see the red card challenge back, because from where I was it looked late but difficult to see if it was high/dangerous

Definitely put us on the back foot but… our defending was shocking all game.

This time last season I was seriously worried about going down.  Today I wasn’t until I got to the ground and the game kicked off.  Once again we are on a tipping point

At least supporting Charlton isn’t boring 🙄
  • In League One fixtures:

0 wins in the previous 5 games.

1 win in the previous 9 games.
Yup. But don't dare say the manager is crap. Apparently, we need stability and can't keep changing managers.

Lose to Burton on Tuesday - and I can see that happening - and hopefully even the people who come out with this stuff will realise that Jones just struck lucky at Luton and is now a busted flush.
Just look what happened at Saints & Stoke, different level maybe but didn't last long at either. I did actually think he was a very good signing for us but I now think the opposite. I didn't & never will get the selling of Alfie May but even worse was signing Gas, even when we were just linked with him I said he was not good enough but further down the line when Jones was just signing his mates this team & tactics or should I say lack of them has just become a joke.
    *replaces Alfie May

....*replacement scores the same number of goals in the same number of games

    ****shocked pikachu face*****

*baffled we are now re-writing history that Ahadme was the replacement when it was Godden - Ahadme was the partner we were shouting out for last year not a replacement....
Re writing history ? Maybe you can't read too well, perhaps you can get somebody to read my post for you, I never said that Gas was the replacement for Alfie.

Hopefully you made it back.  We strolled up to get the 1901 to see carnage at the station.  Fortunately we managed to convince a minicab to take an uber booking, with a bit of lubrication, to get us to Leeds just in time to get the train.  I’m glad that his speedo was in kph when it went into three figures…
  • We have to stick with Jones. He needs to get his act together.
This is the Jones act He has it together
problem is it’s a shitty act and he hasn’t bothered to learn the script or show it to his cast
His old pals players are ripping the piss to a man
    ”unlucky with injuries blah blah”
    or
some predictable guff about poor officials
both shameless horseshit from a charlatan
today’s wank about the same deficiencies as last season is Trumpian mendacity of the lowest order
Jones has come up with so much risible crap he’s clean forgotten what he’s lying about
At least with Appleton everybody knew we were getting a humourless journeyman with an unrivalled collection of P45s

  • Just got home. Been out the house for almost 20 hours. Was it worth it, absolutely not. Having to get a cab to Leeds after the match was probably  the part which pissed me off the most.

Expected us to get beat and we got beat. Two game against relegation candidate coming up which we need to win.

Another season over before January. Wonder how long it will be before the investors start getting restless. Methven and co should be shitting themselves right now.
Spoke to CM at Exeter, asked him if we don’t go up, do they walk, he insisted they won’t, they are here for the long haul were his words.
He would say that.  They're not going to give up fat juicy contracts.

Another one of our games where key moment goes against us.. Sending of at 1-1 swings the momentum back to them...think we deserved something from the game... Leaburn, Ahadme good chances.… we move on and the good thing is we are still only 7 points of play

    And four from the bottom.
    More importantly.
  • We're not very good, we're not very good. Charlton Athletic, we're not very good.
    That's all it is really.
  • Sod the game, I want to complain about the way people were treated at Huddersfield railway station. Got to the station about 17.20 thinking, great, perfect timing for my train back to Manchester Piccadilly at 17.31. Only to be told that a broken rail meant that no trains were running into Manchester. We were shunted from platform to platform, boarded one train, sat in the station for 20 mins, then we were told to get off the train, as it was being sent back towards York.
Another train, bound for Manchester Airport, arrived, I thought, great, they will manage to get this one through, but after a few minutes on the platform, everyone was told to get off the train. By this time there was probably a thousand people trying to get back to Manchester.
We were then told that the Railway companies were organising replacement buses and free taxis to get people back to Manchester. Another hour went by, no buses, no free taxis, people just somehow started drifting away, forking out of there own pocket to pay for taxis.
Then a station staff member came out with a megaphone, saying that the station staff had been on the phone to railway management and bus and taxi companies, but nobody was answering the phone!!
At this point, approaching 19.00 I was walking back into the station to start complaining about the awful way the passengers were being treated, when a free taxi appeared and luckily there was one space left in it.
That's not the end of the story, because the taxi driver ended up in Manchester, just as traffic and people were coming into the city centre after the City/Spurs game. We got stuck in traffic and sat stationary for a long time.
Finally, got into Piccadilly, went to catch my tram back to Altrincham, only to find it was one coming form the Ethiad, was rammed like sardines.
I finally got home around 21.00, only half an hour later than if I had gone to The Valley.
I thought I would tell this tale of trains and taxis to cheer up Charlton fans, talking about railways has always been a strong thread on CL.
Sod the football, just sort out the f**king railways
By the way, Although losing, I enjoyrd the effort shown in the second half.

    This.
For my journey there see roll call thread.
At Huddersfield station by 17.30. Home 23.45.
Distance Huddersfield to blackburn 40 fkin miles.
    The football, ........

9 of us ended up in Derby. After a lengthy wait 5 bailed out to get a hotel, but the woman at Derby station was very helpful and now 4 of us, including Airman Brown, are in a taxi on the M1...
  • This was pure frustration. Again

Poor decision making, fundamental mistakes and we only started playing when we were down to 10

Before I think about piling on the manager, this is another season where we have a big chunk of our first 11 out injured by November which kills whoever the manager is. I don’t know if its a psychological thing and the players milk injuries because they are at Charlton or we train on broken glass, we train too hard. Don't know. What I do know is when down to 10 men you can't waste set pieces or rush them....

Anyway, today, I take my hat off to anyone who made that journey and anyone still on their way home. Public transport in this country is ace isn't it.

Trouble is the first train to sunny isle of Thanet isn’t until 8.20. And, of course, there is a rail replacement bus service. But grateful to have reached St Pancras.

Coach got back to Charlton 9.30pm non stop
8.55pm it was just a few miles away from us on the M11 Epping , he was indoors by 10.15pm
Petrol head enjoyed it , he’s a piss head who is a shit drinker and met a mates son up there who got him 2 pints in the ground that was the highlight and £6.50 for a bacon burger .
selfish prick is getting mum to take him to Burton and we’re all off to Walsall, I’d pull the curtains if Charlton had a match in the garden but I’d prolly put the stream on so I can fall asleep
sooner this season ends the better and we can have another shit summer window with fans dressing it up as something special and over hyping the dross that arrives
    groundhog seasons at Charlton
    utter guff

decent numbers for us up at Huddersfield , the numbers for burton marching up with the teams performances

Me, @clive and @JohnnyH2 got back to Huddersfield station like many Charlton fans to find all trains delayed both ways to Leeds and Manchester due to a broken rail. We made the decision to pay out for an Uber to get from Huddersfield to Leeds and just made the 18:40 back to London.

Feel for the fans who are still travelling back. Just ridiculous.

Travel up there was not easy with a cancellation of a Leeds train and a long wait for a train from York.

As for the game crap start, terrible marking for the first goal and the game should have been out of sight from them when they missed a sitter hitting the bar. We looked better with 10 men for the rest of the half and second half probably the better side. Said it time and time again like others the midfield is just nothing. No creativity no quality in width.

Does NJ manage the trains as well?
  • It’s getting harder by the game. The football is excruciating to watch, Brown is excruciating to listen to. Jones makes me angrier by the game. Not going out of my way to watch anymore. Sad times.
  • Was there today - putting it basically, we were crap - yet again - this is getting boring - my mates and I spend a lot of money travelling around the country watching Charlton - I don’t mind seeing us lose, as long as there is effort, application and desire, none of which was on show today by this shower of shit - even worse is the skill levels on show, simply shit - how many times do I have to watch a corner or free kick which either fails to go over the first defender, or sails over the entire defence and attack - appalling

I said to my mate after half time ‘if they go 2-1 up, we are leaving’ - and we did

Got to station, as per usual trains in the north utter dog dirt - quickly realised that getting a train from Huddersfield to York had zero chance - cab to York - got home 9.30

Not sure I can do many more aways - quite simply not good enough at the moment
Cab to York a sensible approach. It was a farce back at Huddersfield station after the game. I was booked to go back via Manchester and ended up having to go via York. I'm awaiting my train at London Bridge now so home for 23:00. A long old day.

I would say I did see effort, application and desire, the second half especially. We just ain't cohesive.

Anyway, onto Burton. See the other 250 of you there.

I feel for the folk in the frozen north having a train service that's worse than Southeastern!
