Our first 14 players (yesterday's starters plus Alex Mitchell, Leaburn and Anderson) are decent and give us a chance.
But a couple of injuries and we are already down to a bench with the likes of Watson, Ahadme, or kids on it. We are short in numbers imo and need 3 in (we won't get them).
It's daft to get this close and then have to rely on an injury and tiredness free 14 players to get over the line.
I suspect we get one panicked signing tomorrow and Hylton back once the window closes.
All I can say is that the owners better have very deep pockets as staying in this League is costing them around £10m per season. Looking at previous seasons it might take another 3 years before we are chasing a play off spot again.
I have to admit a few weeks ago I never thought we'd be on the cusp of the playoffs but we are and 3 positions are available to push for.
Not bringing anybody in would be criminal because with our injury record we need quality cover.
This is the worse league to get out of jyst ask Leeds fans what they thought of it.
Its interesting though that both us and Leeds have billionaire connections with the San Francisco 49's on their side but my Leeds mate is doing his nut in as they are top and need bodies to get them over the line and the only player they are looking at is a Southampton forward who's hardly played this season.
It seems both Leeds and our owners are all mouth and no wallets... Wasting a gilt edge opportunity to get to the championship now is crazy, screw this 'its a project bollox' take the bloody opportunity now.
Frustrating is not the word.
Currently sitting top of the Championship & having thrashed Swansea 7 nil yesterday I don't think Leeds fans have anything to complain about.
Might not stay there though if they dont make any signings.
Given the lack of incomings, at this stage, I’m wondering if we are under a transfer embargo?
We’re so broken as a fanbase that not bringing in players is seen as a failure of the window.
I get that one or two would strengthen us further, but If we come out of it with all our best players still with us, then it’ll have been a decent window for us whether we bring anyone in or not. Especially with Jones signing a new contract and positive noises from Small regarding the same.
It’s so nice not to be hoping we bring in an entire new team to replace the dross we’ve got each window.
I disagree.
Holding on to our better players is a positive but as a club we need to be challenging for the play-offs at least.
After many seasons we are finally looking like we have a chance of top six but SO FAR we've not added to our squad.
I want more than "decent" or treading water in this division.
Maybe I'm unrealistic but I really think the play-offs can be achieved this year and extra quality signings give us a better chance of doing that.
One or two yes I agree they would of course.
But this club has been so devoid of continuity over the past ten years that it’s nice to be in a position where (one striker excepted) I’m happy for all our players to be here.
The point I’m making is that it’s not the end of the world if we don’t sign anyone compared to previous years where I would have been fearing relegation had we not brought anyone in.
That's fair enough but in football and in this division you can't stand still.
Not getting promoted could well mean our better players leaving for richer, high ranked clubs and so we have to start over.
Anyway, window hasn't closed yet
Blimey. Found myself liking 2 of Henry's posts this afternoon.
Re the above.........we will have a better chance of Small signing a new contract if we are in the Championship next season
Maybe I am alone in feeling relaxed about the notion of no incomings. Yeah it is exciting to read about a new player, but more often than not they disappoint. We are in a position to challenge, probably no worse off than our rivals when it comes to fielding a team, from Tuesday we can simply get on with it.

You certainly don't seem to be alone. Quite a few posters have convinced themselves that we have a straightforward choice between either bringing in worse than what we currently have or not bringing anyone at all, presumably so that if we don't get anyone in then it can be heralded as a success.
We have recruited no one, with just about 34 hours left. What's the betting that come 23:00 tomorrow night, the same old excuses will be trotted out? If that's the case, my new found optimism regarding making the playoffs will be sunk, as will my faith in the new owners! We have an opportunity here, I hope the SMT don't blow it for the sake of penny pinching!
Charlie is thinking his policy is working and so no need to spend as all going to plan.
If we get no one in then Andy Scott should be straight out the door Tuesday morning.
That seems a bit unfair. He was instrumental in putting a one line quote together for the Lloyd Jones contract signing article. These things take time.
He did sign Jones tbf, so I reckon he's allowed to comment on that one!

He’s set himself up to be criticised then, as like Jones he’s talked about us signing a couple of attacking players.
He said he'd much prefer to develop our own players and likes people to be around for a while so they buy into the project but would take loans if they added quality.
Hoping for 3 in (Gilbert , another CM and a Winger/striker) think that would help with a lot of the issues.
I know Cawley completely ruled him out but Moxon wasn't in the Pompey squad today.....
I can’t see three players coming in. I can only see one late on Monday.
When are you coming back on Monday Dennis 22-59?
22-59 and thirty seconds. Perhaps we should do the Transfer Window lottery. A) we tried really hard to get the deal over the line but we ran out of time. We couldn’t get anyone in but are really happy with what we have in our squad.
C) The 16 year old we managed to bring in on loan from Spurs had a clutch of Clubs vying for his signature. But the player wanted to come to South East London. To a mid table League one Club.
D) Given incorrect address for Sparrows Den and ended up in New Cross.
I'm not knocking Gilbert's qualities - I have seen hardly anything of him, but as it stands he has played 7 times this season for Middlesborough in the league and in total 10 games he's appeared in, for a total of 340 minutes, in which he has one goal, no assists, ten touches in the opposition box, six successful lay offs, one successful dribble and one yellow card.
How long will it take him to get match fit. He has appeared in a total of 27 games in the league in his career. A lot to put on the young, inexperienced shoulders. League 1 is a brutal division. Not played in League 1 and it was 3 years ago, but 8 appearances in Swindon with no goals.
Could be a loan with an ‘option to buy’ at the end of the season.
i.e we loan him now but have agreed a price we would pay in the summer if we decide to make the deal permanent. Fairly common for agreements like this to be written into loan contracts.

Not a bad idea. They guy will have to work hard to impress before getting a contract.

Relax, it’s only the postman 😉

Could go either way. He does well, we could miss out in the summer if he gets a better offer. Goes badly and he was only on loan.
