Knocked sideways by the news - he'd produced home match reports for The Charlton Champion and The Greenwich Wire for the past five years. I'd grown up reading him in the Mercury so it was amazing to actually work with him.
He was pretty much going to every away match until a couple of seasons ago - I joined him on the terrace at Forest Green Rovers in February last year and had a whale of a time at what was, even though we won it, a woeful match.
The page views don't lie - his reports were always well-read and he was such a good writer, an editor's dream. I'll miss him, and so will loads of readers.
When I appeared in the press box with AA Junior in his pram or strapped to my chest, he and Hazel were very welcoming, and ever since had been so friendly, chatty, and interested in junior’s progress.
Kevin was one of the great Charlton characters of the last half-century and someone I was fortunate to know well and work closely with for many years. He was also a great writer, and married that skill with his passion for Charlton to magnificent effect for almost 40 years. I’ll have much more to say on this tomorrow, but for now full respect to a remarkable man.
My memory of him was on a trip up to Man Utd, was on the M1 traffic was slowing just before some services, there was a car parked in the centre reservation, didn’t think any more about. Pulled into the services had our breakfast and was wandering through the car when we were approached by someone saying could you give me a lift to man United, (boy was wearing his Charlton) oh and 2 others. We did (the crashed was there’s) and had a great few hours with him and his friends discussing all things Charlton, think the story made it into his column. Some 10 years later we done a tour and he recognised us. A gentleman and a great reporter R.I.P.
Very sad news. RIP Kevin. He was my grandad's childhood friend and he has told me many stories of them together, with other friends and Kevin's brother (Ginger I think his nickname was). Still went to breakfast with him until a few years ago. Kevin took us on a tour of the Valley for Father's Day several years ago which is when I first met him and saw for myself his brilliant character. He had so much time for everyone, we spent time chatting at my grandad's nephews funeral some years back, such a lovely bloke. I know my grandad will be devastated to hear the news and my thoughts go to Hazel and his whole family.
RIP Kevin. Loved reading his reports. Hit the nail on the head every time. A great loss. Didn't realise that he was that age. Condolencies to his family.
Knocked me for 6 too, just a brilliant man, be it in company or in writing. Charlton legends is an easy phrase to bandy about but Kevin truly is. Spent many an hour in his infectious company, all thoughts and prayers with Hazel and family. RIP.
Spent some great journeys with Kevin and Hazel, watching Charlton away. Such a great guy and will be greatly missed by his family and the Club. Very much a Charlton legend. RIP.
Ah no. I didn't know Kevin, but have loved reading his match reports since I was a kid. His humour, turn of phrase, and occasionally surreal flights of fancy in his reports were memorable, but as someone up there said, you always felt that he'd watched the same game as you. He and Tom Morris were the core of my youthful Charlton memories of games I couldn't go to, and it's sad we've now lost both of them.
My condolences to those of you that have lost a friend and colleague, and my sympathies to his wife and family.
Shocked. Very sad news. Great Charlton reporter and another legend gone. Thanks for all your Charlton reports, always unique in their way, honest and always a good read. You will be missed. RIP
Kevin Nolan's brilliant match reports in the Mercury were a lifeline for me - exiled in Exeter - I had liitle money to get up to home games but always relished the arrival by post of the Mercury's reports. Thank you Kevin RIP.
Oh that really is very sad indeed. Spoken to him on many occasions and he always had a smile and shared a few words, all in all a very pleasant fella. Often had a packet of sweets suitably concealed, which he dished out to all and sundry with great zeal. Great wordsmith, knowledgeable and sincere. A massive loss to the news desk and club in general. My sincere condolences to all family and friends. RIP…..Kev…..RIP.

Him and his wife had seats in the press box just in front of us for a few years.
Also chatted with him a few times on the train to Charlton.
Nice guy
