Kevin Nolan RIP

Very Sad news. Kevin was a real Charlton legend.

When we started CL and I started writing blog articles, Kevin was my inspiration to start writing. His match reports from when I started getting properly into Charlton in the early 90s were my go to read for decades. He was simply the best descriptive writer I ever enjoyed reading, overflowing with humour and candidness. He really deserved a much bigger audience than the Charlton family.

when he was between outlets, I tried a couple of times to woo him to write match reports for CL when we were getting quite high visitor levels (prob around 2006-2010). He was flattered, but i think he still saw online fan outlets as 2nd division to print then. @InspectorSands years later went on to be more successful in netting him! 

I had a drink with him once and he was a great character. If he’s been a friend of yours then I suspect you’ve lost someone who was fantastic company. 

RIP Kevin and thanks for providing a lot of enjoyment over the years

So so sad, our paths crossed a few times over the years.
So passionate re Charlton, such a talented journalist with that extra pithy dimension he brought to entertain and educate us.

One quote of his I've never forgotten, regarding a Neville Southall save. -

Only got to know Kevin in the last 15 years or so.

I used to talk to Kevin and his lovely wife Hazel outside the press box at the Valley.

He'd sometimes smuggle me in and give me the teamsheet for the match and a sandwich!

Lovely bloke who will be greatly missed..RIP Kevin.

This is terribly sad, and I can only hope things haven't been too protracted for his family. During the years I spent abroad, pre internet, Mum used to send me his Mercury match reports which provided a warm, affectionate, and balanced lifeline to the club. Only after reading those did I feel I really had a picture of how things had unfolded.

Years later I explained that to him on the coach to an away game and he was genuinely thrilled, even more so when I explained that I'd inadvertently delivered them to a fellow Charlton fan I'd been tipped off about who turned out to be his brother!

Truly the end of an era; writers with that level of skill and humour don't come along too often. My sincere condolences to all who knew him. Thanks Kevin.

So sad, Kevin was Charlton through and through and a complete gentleman and funny man. Will be sorely missed.

If you could define someone as "Proper Charlton" then it would be Kevin, he lived and breathed the club. His reports were never off the mark, if the truth needed to be told Kevin would tell it. He was as sharp as a knife, with a caustic wit that was unmatched. 

I last saw him at the Valley about a month ago after the Wrexham game, he was spot on commenting about how we played that day and about our opponents.

Charlton has lost a true legend, I hope the club will do the honour of holding a moments appreciation before the next game, it's the least they can do to remember him.

RIP Kev, love to Hazel and all the family.

I used to play for marvels lane bc as a kid. Kevin would usually be around the club as he lived around the corner. Anyway, I came down with a really nasty bout of whooping cough and Kevin, the gentleman that he is, went and got me a signed get well soon card from the Charlton squad of the time (89/90 ish) Then, when I recovered, he took me up to the end of season game at old Trafford (fancy dress game) as a treat. He didn’t have to do any of that, but it shows what a good man he was. Although we lost touch, I’m quite gutted. Thanks for what you did for me Kevin, you gave me some great memories to cherish. God bless to a real Charlton man and rest in peace.
