Been out of loop for a few days and just saw this shocking news. What a wonderful sports journalist Kevin was and true friend of Charlton Athletic. This is a big big loss. RIP Kevin.
I’d forgotten about that night, his utter indignation over Adkin’s attitude and how Kev put him on the spot over the so-called penalty. He was fuming and wasn’t letting go about it.
And what’s your name - came the question from Adkin’s. Kevin Nolan, loudly he responded.
Afterwards he looked around and said I should have said Peter Burrowes….. (well that’s how I remember it)
Late to this, loved his writing, even in the depths of despair with the results over much of the recent past reading his prose was wonderful (I used to share it with other non-Charlton football fans, who were at least jealous of us for one thing).
Kevin Nolan’s reports back in the 80s in The Mercury were incomparable. They were not sports reports - they were artistic sports prose. RIP to a great journalist.
Such sad news, loved reading Kevins reports, always to the point written with humor, a rare tallent. Comiserations to his family and friends. RIP Kevin
There is a full page tribute to Kevin in Saturday's programme v Mansfield, written by Peter Burrows
It also mentions that Kevin’s funeral will take place
on Friday, January 3, with
Mass at 10.30am at the Good
Shepherd Roman Catholic
Church, in Downham, followed by
a noon cremation at Grove Park
Crematorium.
