A happy afternoon for the travelling Addicks send us into the Christmas season in high spirits!

In a spell of poor form, and without a manager, Northampton Town would have been hoping for something to kickstart a run up the table and away from the relegation spots. Unfortunately for them, a rampant Addicks turned up to play the spoiler. Conditions were less than ideal but strong, swirling winds did nothing to blunt the Addick’s attack. On nine minutes, Charlton’s captain, Greg Docherty burst into the box to get on the end of a Tyreece Campbell knock back and open the Addicks account with a lovely finish with his left foot. It was Tyreece Campbell that doubled the lead just some three minutes later, running into the box to get on the end of a Miles Leaburn pass that he was able to toe poke home. On thirty-six minutes, Leaburn found the back of the net with a nifty take down and snap shot from six yards, finished with his left. Charlton comfortably saw out the first half, three to the good and in cruise control.

Northampton never got a foothold in the game. And it was an inspired Greg Docherty, the Scottish Merlot, who blasted home his second and Charlton’s fourth on sixty-eight minutes to put any comeback out of the question. It was a beautiful strike that he hit first time and gave the keeper no chance as it found the top left corner of the goal. But Charlton were not done. To put the icing on the cake just at about ninety minutes, Alex Mitchell burst into the box and laid a peach of a cutback for Danny Hylton to stroke home to make it five nil.

Northampton Town 0 Charlton 5

Over to you, ya filthy animals.

“I can’t see past us giving them a Christmas good hiding.”

    I was confident.

Finally a performance and result that I was expecting from the start of the season. They were terrible but we have played a few terrible teams this season and not seen a performance like that ! Hopefully an attitude shift has occurred? Unbelievable but we are back in with a shout at the playoffs which is ridiculous considering our season so far

Well, I've criticised Jones a lot recently, and quite rightly, but got to say they all got it spot on today, and that includes him. At it right from the start. More of that please!!

My son watched on a dodgy stream and said where has that team been all season. Also said that Nathan has to stick with the starting 11 for Boxing Day. Get 4 points from the next 2 games & we can finally be looking up the table rather than down.

What happened to the long ball game?!
Not sure I trust all this passing business.

No bad performances and several excellent ones. Leaburn and TC sharp, Coventry bossed the midfield, Docherty outstanding, Small did well on the right, defence solid with Jones back, Berry actually looked fit.

The 5th goal was the pick of the bunch, lovely skill from Anderson, a good cutback from Mitchell and clinical finish from Hylton.  A good mix of longer balls and playing through the midfield.

Northampton were terrible but I think we would have beaten most teams in the league today. Can we crack on now? I thought we were going to after Birmingham but it never happened.

I was delighted when NJ came in and really upset to find ourselves in our recent shocking run of form.

I find today even more frustrating that we cannot put together more of these types of performances together more often. I’m not having it that it was just because Northampton were terrible, we still needed to impose ourselves on the game. This crop of players we currently have are certainly good enough individually to do so.

A win against Cambridge would really set the Wycombe game up nicely.

There is clearly work to be done still and there will be plenty more ups and downs but get into January in the top half with hopefully the return of Kane Ramsay not a million miles away, let’s see what happens.

Northampton looked poor but we took full
    advantage. Doch MoM
Shame Jones didn’t stay out and applaud the fans.

I felt for the Northampton fans when Hylton scored, that’s absolutely the sort of thing that would happen against us.

A result everyone at the club needed. Three clean sheets and some meaningful productivity out of Docherty, T. Campbell, and Leaburn.

No one should get carried away because this squad clearly has limitations. It needs at least a couple of additions of real quality if we are to become truly competitive.
Absolutely but still a nice result to send us into Christmas 👍🏻
