Maybe he was just saying it, but slightly odd in his end of play interview that Compton said that he was "fighting" for his contract. Surely, with the runs he's scored this year, it should have been the other way round?
I don't think anyone else wanted him to be honest

but can't argue with weight of runs this season and feels like scoring much quicker (although I don't have those stats)

Any L2/lower L1 county would surely like Compton for their county championship side.

The likes of Muyeye and Evison might have potential, but Compton is actually delivering now.

In 2023 his strike rate was 38.50. This season it's 49.58 so much better and it's difficult to argue that 3 an over is slow especially when he already has 1,200 runs in the bag.

425-8. Stewart unlikely to bat I think. 46 runs behind so a draw inevitable.

I'm sure Kent will still find a way to lose this.

A real positive has been that 5/8 partnerships have been more than 50 with none of the usual collapses.

Apologies if I have missed this but there is a rumour that Sam Northeast might be returning to Kent. Anyone know anything?
It's been a persistent rumour for some time.

He'll be 36 in October - which looks a tad old to be re-building your side around. But I was looking at the case for signing him, Kent desperately need a bit of middle order ballast while a few players like Ekansh Singh, Jaydn Denly and Ben Dawkins - the next-gen batsmen establish themselves. Dawkins is making his FC Kent debut in this match but has played recently for England in a Youth Test against India and scored a hundred, Ekansh Singh also scored a hundred in the same match.

If there's one positive to Kent's season it's that they might as well blood these younger players, but it also means putting a lot of faith in three 19 year old kids who have less than ten FC matches between them, having someone like Sam Northeast around for a couple of seasons makes sense.
I’d like to see him return. I taught him and have followed his career closely. Shame he never made it to the top. He captained England U19s - I can’t remember who else was in that side but it would be interesting to know - notwithstanding his triple and quadruple centuries, he has just not been consistent enough. Moving counties a few times probably hasn’t helped.

Leicestershire used 10 bowlers in the end and Rehan Ahmed bowled 42 overs.

I mentioned that he might be re-joining us above when talking about the Northeast rumour. Things haven't worked out for him at Yorkshire but, as long as he stays fit, he should be a useful addition.

Deal until 2028 so quite a gamble on his fitness

With Kent's sterling record of keeping bowlers fit, nothing to worry about  :D

Interesting that Jaydn keeps his uncle out of the side and has been promoted to open. Here's a question - when was the last time that Kent had two left handers opening the batting?
Interesting question. Pre Denness and Luckhurst Peter Richardson and Bob Wilson opened the batting often. Late fifties early sixties. I’m struggling to think of two left handers opening together since though. it must have happened since before Ben and Jaydn but when?

I'm not sure that two left handers have opened since though I would have thought that there might have been a left hander who opened with Mark Benson?

    Laurie Potter?

Forget that. Left hand bowler but right hand bat.

    Simon Hinks.
Great shout and he did, indeed, open with Benson.

Benson didn't make his Kent first class debut until 1980 and Clinton left for Surrey in 1979.

Interesting one day squad there, real mix of youth and experience but more senior pros than I imagined

Klaassen presumably not chosen for the 100. Who have we lost for that competition other than Billings and Muyeye? DBD, Parky?
