Lovely scorecard to wake up to. Nice to have a wildcard pick of Neser instead of Cummins

Well, that's better than I'd expected.

This is the first match in 12 years that Australia have put out a side without Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon.

That ball for Duckett is fantastic

Well this is a pleasant surprise to wake up to. Neser is a bit of a wildcard pick that ironically would concern me more in English conditions.

Good recovery. Crawley looks much more assured which is great to see.

The reality is that this Test will be won by the side that can negotiate the difficult periods best - early on when the ball is hard and also when the light is fading - and not give it away when conditions are at their best to bat. That sounds all very straightforward but it's not something that we've particularly good at recognising under Bazball. Til now hopefully.

Interesting that both sides have left out their main spinners because of the dusk period,  but it does leave them vulnerable during the day.

Keeper standing up to seamers after 25 overs says it all about the lack of pace and bounce of this pitch and the rapidly deteriorating pink ball.

Please don't let this be the start of a mini collapse.
Need a decent partnership now from Root and Brook.

Soft dismissal.  Great time for Brook to come to the crease though,  the ball starting to get soft and an hour until it starts getting dark.
  • Brook straight onto the attack

As Cook says, the ball wasn't there to pull it and 70s don't win Test matches. I'd like to think Crawley will learn from that but, as he's only converted 5 of the 25 occasions he's reached 50, I'm not sure he ever will.

Brook wont be around for long playing like this.

That was an incredible take by Carey.
  • Feel like this will be a quick 25 or something here from Brook.  Daft play.

I hate the ramp shot. So risky.

Crazy shot by Brook. Going like a train,  so no need to play the T20 stuff. That would have been a mad dismissal.
  • If he’d got himself out there someone should have shot him

Esp when you have just come in & your team is 130/3. Been there a while & are 400/6 then no problem.

The phrase "in for a good time and not a long time" was made for Brook.

What they're saying on comms is right. Crazy shot to try when you're 140-3 in a test match. Take responsibility.

Glenn McGrath talking a lot of sense on TMS - saying leave the short stuff and the bowlers will have to go back to a length and it seems easy to score off on this pitch.

Shame I suspect most of our team haven't got half his nous.

Root and Brook are 2 of the very best batsmen in the world.
Just play sensible cricket and cut out the one day shots.
