It's ok to lose from time to time. Even the very best teams do that. But for the England women's team to suffer such a humiliating, 97-run thrashing at home is appalling.
But much, much worse than that is the dreadful attitude. Awful fielding, brainless batting, absent captaincy. And, no-one looking like they either care or even want to be there.
England team unchanged, relieved not to see Archer selected
But not released back to Sussex to get some proper bowling and fielding miles into his body. What use is gentle trundling in the nets for a couple of hours a day when you've proved to be so so fragile physically? An 18 over contribution in one match won't have tuned him up one iota. There's a long time before the ashes tour but if he gets there he'll need to be good for 40+overs and 3 days in the field chasing leather in Perth or Queensland conditions. That's pushing everybody's limits. Fast bowling in test matches is tough yakka and the stresses it exerts on the physiology can't meaningfully be replicated in the gym or the nets.

Only thing I can think of is that it's the Kookaburra and very very hot so he's likely to just toil away for absolutely no reward and risk getting injured

Hove in this weather is an absolute road. As much as I'd have loved to have seen him play for us it's just not worth it with the Kookaburra in a round where batters are dominant

Also would be harsh to get rid of Crocombe (i'd assume it would've been him to make way). If you don't start the game you shouldn't be allowed to come in halfway through imo.

Yeah would have been Crocombe who's just coming back into things after injury and actually looked pretty good.
I'm also fully on board the " James Coles to be the shock Ashes squad pick" train.
Like, the worst selection of all probably isn't even a bowling selection but the replacement of the out of his depth Sai not with the actual top-order bat in the squad (Easwaran) but moving Nair up to 3 to accommodate another allrounder. Absolutely bonkers

I'd missed this. RIP Wayne Larkins.

I agree with you btw playing another game for Sussex would make more sense.
RIP Wayne Larkins. Fine county cricketer and occasional test player.
