I actually think he’s a really good signing, thought he was good for Reading.

Not sure I understand the head loss from some on this and other sites about this signing, smart decision and probable an improvement on REG

It’s hilarious how football fans become chief scouts when they see players leave their clubs. Like others have mentioned already this comes from the same fan base that voted MacGilvary was their player of the season. One of the worst keepers I have seen down the Valley!

Me thinks Gilesphey’s cock up was the final straw and prompted this. We’ve literally no other left footed option there
    Me thinks that as well.

We've signed good defenders since Jones came in, I'm hopeful he can get the best out of him. He only needs to be better than Gillesphey to improve us.

My Pompey mate said he's been pretty solid for them with the odd blip but overall a steady eddie and should be more than good enough for League One .
  • Not inspired by Andy Scott's review ... has he signed him on the back of a few character reports?  Has he even seen him play?

Technical Director Andy Scott added: "We’re really happy we’re bringing Tom in. He’s a real competitor. We’ve had some very impressive reports on him as a character - he really wants to come in and prove his worth. He’s left-footed, a good footballer, brave - he’s played at full-back, centre-back and as a holding midfielder. It’s a really good opportunity for him and for us."

Might even give Gillesphey a kick up the arse... Its no doubt been a comfortable season for him, when his "rival" for a spot in the team has been Dan Potts, who has been injured the majority of the time - Footballers no doubt start getting a little bit too comfortable when that happens.

As Callum said on Saturday... If McIntyre does replace Gillesphey I hope we dont miss out on his punt up field, as it is turning into a bit of a weapon for us, unfortunately Gillesphey in defence is a potential weapon for the opposition
Feel somewhat sorry for Gillesphey, has had some really good games but from time to time those alarming 5 out of 10 performances crop up.
If only he could harness those good showings he’d be fine.

So stats wise, he started about a dozen Champ games between Sept and Nov, got dropped to the bench and then was an unused sub ever since.

Last season he missed virtually the whole season, done only two 90 mins at Reading and a handful of sub appearances. Sold to Pompey in Jan and played just 54 mins

I don’t know anything about the player but one thing I felt we needed if we replaced Gillesphey was to not lose his ability to switch things up with his passing. Sounds like McIntyre is a passer as well so if he’s a better defender than Gillesphey with it then it seems like a sensible signing

Makes you wonder if they actually spoke to the fella. Wouldn’t have happened in the ‘old days’.
