    Welcome.

Im sure the Pompey fans' views wont influence anyone's opinion and you'll be afforded time to settle and not declared a carthorse after your first mistake.

We have had 12 clean sheets this season compared to 5 last season and when the defence in front of the keeper are on it with Jones the rock then it was never a priority. So if we want an improvement then the summer will be time to bring in a keeper and then let one of the present two move on. Good luck in getting a keeper who is special. Both Crazy Hamer and stay on his line Phillips were decent but had their faults.

Seen so many times on the scores on the doors this season when we have had a solid defence.

AMB: 6 Didn't have much to do.

Based on those reviews from former clubs, I’m wondering if he’s a bit of a last minute “that’ll do” signing to provide cover on the left, replacing Potts, and allow REG to be moved in permanently.
This. I think we got a late offer for REG and wanted to cash in, so McIntyre was a last minute replacement for him.

The guy has played 100 games in the Championship, aged 26. You don't do that if you're useless.

Remember what the Leicester fans were saying about Yann when we got him.
    Absolutely rubbish they said.

Then when we signed Kirk we were told he was brilliant.

Sometimes player's perform really well at one club and really poor at another.

I've no idea how good or bad he will be for us but it's ridiculous to judge him before he's kicked a ball.

He’s giving me big Morgan Fox energy.

Apparently a useless left footed defender yet he’s amassed over 300 career appearances - all but 24 of them at Championship level.

This statement comes right to the front of my mind basically whenever we sign a player, I can remember being confused about the Kermorgant move thinking we already had Paul Hayes, how wrong I was.

If I remember correctly they hated him so much they even made a song for him.

Anyone reading their forums would have thought we had signed a donkey 🫏.

Turned out to be great for us as I'm sure you agree going by your username.

Not exactly been an outstanding successes for Portsmouth only 13 appearances for them this season. A team that is struggling.

No, but he's also made over 100 appearances for Reading with almost all of them being in the Championship.
I might be wrong but I think when he went to Pompey Reading fans thought he would be a loss for them? Probably an idea to go on what they say as well.

Not that it makes too much of a difference, let's see how he does here.

Personally a bit underwhelmed and hope there is more incoming.
    Nope, nevermind.

Of course it couldn't have anything to do with the dross he may have been playing with at the time, I love all this "he's no good" stuff, sure Nathan will have seen enough to get him in and maybe we should at least wait till we see him play before writing him off...

We've had more than a few ourselves. Simon Francis went on to captain a Premier League team, McGrandles is beloved back at Lincoln, Alan McCormack went on to play at Championship level somehow. I doubt Tranmere fans were gushing about CBT and Sunderland fans couldn't find enough negative things to say about Dobson when we picked them up but they were our best players over the past few years. Different times, different clubs, different outcomes for players sometimes. Fingers crossed McIntyre is good, we're not hanging a lot of hope on him; he either pushes us on or we're stuck with the defender who has played more games than anyone else as we've got within touching distance of the Play-Offs. Could be worse.
  • Portsmouth fans also said that MacG was the best goalkeeper in the league, sometimes fans get it wrong. Oxford fans still love Appleton

Yeah, always makes me smile -  our defence dominates with a clean sheet.

Our keeper gets a low score, "nothing to do", say some - seemingly oblivious that the keeper is also a key part of that successful defensive unit.

I really don’t think most managers do much scouting, own homework on players these days. Suspect it’s much more ‘what’s he like?’ phone calls to people they know

True, but things can change quickly. Allan Campbell is the same age and was a regular in Luton’s promotion season.

Hopefully he turns out to be an upgrade on Gillesphey.

This from my daughter’s boyfriend who is a Reading fan:

“Just saw you signed Tom Mcintyre from Portsmouth. He's Reading born and bred. Bang average player for us in the championship, but League 1 might prove to be his level.”

Given Reading were relegated, does that mean the rest of the team were below average ?
Off the pitch problems at Reading. Terrible owner delaying sale of the club.

It’s okay mate, I don’t think anyone’s planning to assassinate him.
    Just character assassination.

He also played regularly for Reading BEFORE their off the pitch issues became apparent, helping them to a 7th placed finish in 2020-21 season.

Video above is an interesting watch. Nathan looks quite stressed in the middle of a phone call as McIntyre walks into his office. Presumably in the middle of a transfer discussion!

I do have a lot of sympathy for these players having to stand there like lemons and celebrate an imaginary goal so they can get turned into a rubbish gif. Probably hoping he never scores so he doesn't ever have to see it

One thing I picked up on from watching the behind the scenes was his old man follows Welling United, so I would imagine is local. That could be massive for us, as having his Dad at games that don't collide with Welling might be something he doesn't have week in week out at his other clubs. Came across as a good kid with a good attitude, so here's to hoping he is a solid acquisition. Used to be very highly rated as a youngster.

Back to work today been off all week. I work 10 miles from Reading and have a lot of Reading mates. The consensus view is he is slow and cumbersome but gets his head in where it hurts.

Those Reading fans who liked him was because he was a local lad and they said they were lucky to get 50k for him when he went to Portsmouth.

    Watch this space i guess.

Good to see our owners splashing out again.
