MATCH THREAD : Crawley Town V Charlton Athletic : Tuesday 11th March 2025 : KO 19:45

Tonight we make the relatively short trip to West Sussex and a very important fixture with Crawley Town, after the original fixture on New Years Day was called off rather late due to a waterlogged pitch.
This is our match in hand on some of those around us, and a win tonight, which I fully expect us to get, will lift us up to 4th position and five points clear of Huddersfield in seventh.
Crawley currently occupy 22nd spot, two points from the foot of the table, and no doubt will be fighting for their lives, but we too will be equally fighting, but for the playoffs at least, I refuse to give up on 2nd spot yet.
Tonight we again have a fully fit team, with AMB being the only absentee with the groin injury which could keep him out for some time.
We've locked horns on five previous occasions, winning two and Crawley three, and as we all know only to well Crawley were 2-1 victors at The Valley in the reverse fixture in early December 2024, so we owe them one big time don't we.
The Addicks will be sporting their yellow away kit in West Sussex, and will be backed by a sold-out away end for the fourth away day on the spin, with 1,297 fans making the trip to the Broadfield Stadium.
Here we go...
Team news...
Alex Gilbert will make his full debut for the Addicks in tonight's game against Crawley Town.
The midfielder has three assists since joining on loan from Middlesbrough in January and replaces Luke Berry in the starting line-up. Karoy Anderson also starts, in place of Greg Docherty, whose partner has given birth to their son.
Kayne Ramsay, tonight's skipper Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey start in a back three in front of Will Mannion.
Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry joining Anderson and Gilbert in a midfield three.
Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell will once again start up front.
Berry is joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Alex Mitchell, Tom McIntyre, Danny Hylton, Matty Godden and Daniel Kanu.
Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones (c), Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Gilbert, Anderson, Edwards; Leaburn, Campbell
Subs: Reid, Mitchell, McIntyre, Berry, Hylton, Godden, Kanu

No Docherty or Aneke1

Hylton preferred to Ahadme. Doc injured no doubt1

Hopefully Anderson's lack of technical ability, and Gilbert's lack of physicality cancel each other out13

No Docherty & Hylton on the bench ??
Also a mistake starting Leaburn again.0 -
No Docherty at all. Very valid reason why but I do like having him there, he might not be our most adventurous player but he gets through a hell of a lot of work whether it's from the start or the bench. Good to see Gilbert get a start, clearly we're looking to dominate this one5

I assumed he was resting Gods on Saturday so surprised he’s on the bench again.2

No Chuks, no Doc, Berry to the bench. I wonder if we're rotating our squad a bit or if they've picked up knocks.0

Worth remembering Chuks took a pretty big knock to the head the weekend12

Given he didn't get any minutes on Saturday, surprise to see Matty not get at least 60 tonight, hopefully Miles is on better form0

Lots of attacking intent there. Hopefully we get off to a fast start and get an early goal or two.3

Naturally depends on how good in the air the Crawley Centre-Backs are as well - People talk about how ineffective Leaburn can be, and how Aneke is going backwards - But a bit like Saturday, there are a lot of occasions where fans are reluctant to contribute those factors to the opposition, e.g. we've seen in the past how plenty of our Strikers have struggled against a Ricardo Santos figure at the back in recent seasons..1 -
No Watson on the bench is interesting. Instead we have 3 strikers plus Berry, so potentially lots of attacking options if we need to chase the game0

Their CB, Barker, captain and one of their best players1
