Karoy in midfield would suit a three upfront, due to his energy for a four rather than a five.1

We all love and are proud of our academy and youngsters, but we can't be relying on Dixon, Assimwe, Fullah, Karoy, and Mbick for our forward play in the championship (for this upcoming season).Gisappointed said:Unless TC turns from a winger/occasional striker and Leaburn rediscovers his speed, we need pace at WB or go 3-4-3 with wingers. A younger Godden got 1 in 3 at our new level. Should he be a starter?
Losing Small is a big blow.
I don't see Edwards as the LWB we need. Prefer him at LCB because MG is too slow at this level, or dump Macca and sign Famewo.
We need two pacy wide men. I'd prefer 3-4-3 as we already have Dixon in that format and Akiimwe as cover and Fullah coming through.
Karoy would suit that three up front so we'd just need a younger Chuks or a fit Miles or Mbick to step up in the middle.9 -
Let's hope so, and leave a bit of dosh for the January windowrobinofottershaw said:
It will be interesting to see if the owners are willing to fund what is needed.Major said:
I know it's fun posting wild opinions... but GRIMMER? Really?
We are in the Championship now.
So let's set our sights higher.
I feel comfortable that Nathan and our recruitment team know whats needed.
(Been a long time since i felt that way).1 -
ERHAHON ?!?Do we really want a midfielder who is injury prone, and in his 3rd season in league one tailed off in his performances at that level ? £600,000 banded around by his agent. Yes he is only 24 but to me sounds a big risk !!! He was at loan with Barnsley when they were in the champo and he did not play ! A lot of money for a Coventry back up…

A Ramsay and a Ramsey, I don’t think this forum could copeAberystwythAddick said:I know people get annoyed with non rumours, but what about Calvin Ramsey at Liverpool. Just finishing a loan at Kilmarnock and has played championship previously.https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/calvin-ramsay/profil/spieler/633652Calvin Ramsay - Player profile 24/25 | TransfermarktBeing able to play RB and RM could see him be a natural replacement for Small.6 -
What’s all this pivot bollox ?10

It means they're good a helping to move things from houses... and know how to get round tight corners.ShootersHillGuru said:What’s all this pivot bollox ?1 -

Cannot see any chance Boro would let him go. Strong performer all year, saw him waltz through Burnley defence and score at Turf Moor.PaddyP17 said:
Pretty sure Dijksteel has been suggested, too. I can't believe I'm saying this but of those all listed, he actually feels like a sensible-ish option (depending on wage), probably as utility RCB/RWB cover...Garrymanilow said:So that's JRS, CBT, James Beadle and, remarkably, Tom Lockyer who have been added to the 'suggestions for signings that I remember' list. We're going at a good clip this year considering it's still only May. Can we get a full on-pitch 11 before the transfer window properly opens?
Oh no, I've been sucked in to the trap0 -
Ah. Now I think I can answer that. Is it when the false 7 emerges from the hole in the high press and retreats to a less advanced position, but ahead of the others forming the low block.ShootersHillGuru said:What’s all this pivot bollox ?
An alternative explanation is that it's probably a manoeuvre you've been watching all your life that's been given a new term.6 -
Not quite as a double pivot doesn't exist in a standard 442 midfield, although I guess if you were watching football during the WM era or a keen follower of 1980's Brazil then you would have been watching it. If you're genuinely interested it just means playing 2 defensive midfielders whose job is to sit in front of the defence and not really attack. Usually balanced out with someone playing ahead or by having lots of attacking width from wingers and wingbacks at the same timeswordfish said:

It's utter woke nonsense it what it is. "Playing on the half-turn" is another one that winds me up, people trying to sound like they know what they're talking about.ShootersHillGuru said:What’s all this pivot bollox ?10 -

Who was saying about trying to get Offiah5
-
People that wanted Odel Offiah from Brighton /Blackpool.... Cawley has just put a Substack up saying we're interested.20
-
Cawley has suggested we're looking at Offiah from Brighton who was on loan at Blackpool last season.
That'll please people as know his name has been mentioned here already as one we should be looking at6 -
Anyonr know if we're interested in Offiah?6

You'd have to think there is a strong chance of it happening as Rich isnt the type to throw names out there without anything substantial behind it.
Presume he'd be the replacement for Small?29 -
Would signing him suggest Ramsay shifting back out to RWB? Offiah is a great player and I'd be delighted if we signed him but tactically it's interesting. I could be wrong but I seem to remember him as a solid defensive RB not a flying attacking one1

QPR also mentioned in the piece as a club interested, hoping Jones and Chappell Brighton links will put us in pole position.8

Which I would say describes Ramsey’s forays from RCB more than Small’s direct burst of pace up the line.Uboat said:

If either of them play RWB it’s a suggestion that we will be looking to be more defensively solid and attacking threat needs to come from higher up the pitch0 -
He’s rapid but definitely defensively better than going forward guessing him and Ramsay would rotate between RCB and RWB depending on which of the 2 fancies going forward very interchangeablefenaddick said:Would signing him suggest Ramsay shifting back out to RWB? Seen him described as a "league 1 cheat code", a "beast" and a "rolls Royce of a defender." Wonder what sort of fee he would command?6

Yes…..it certainly does mean we are ‘interested’ and in saying so Rich (as usual), is no doubt perfectly correct.ForeverAddickted said:You'd have to think there is a strong chance of it happening as Rich isnt the type to throw names out there without anything substantial behind it.

However, it doesn’t make it anymore likely of happening just because he’s been informed.
Sorry to sound pedantic FA.
Incidentally, I very much hope we can pull this one off.🤞🤞🤞

Year left on his deal at Brighton so probably £500k with a sell on? Brighton tend to get really good fees for any youngsters they sell3 -
If it is just us v QPR it will be an interesting test of our ability to land good players.3
-
Very surprised that Brighton are open to a permanent deal for him. Looked absolutely amazing when I saw him play14
