Wonder if Jones as taken the opportunity to get away for another week holiday … while this window is shut
Ah, the old illogical “the window is shut so we can’t sign anyone”.

Can’t see Jones having a break when we can line up deals to be announced when the window opens next week, more free agents who will officially join on 1st July, or work on deals that might go through at any point while the window is open.
We can even announce people during the closure, can’t we?  Just can’t play them.
  • Take all the Small chat to the Small thread.

Whatever you think about him, he’s gone, so let’s keep this thread for new rumours!

Nothing worse than small talk with strangers on the Internet.
  • It’s a Friday, so I expect a signing to be announced!

Like others have already said, you don’t measure Small’s impact with goals and assists - that will come later in his development as he’s only 20 years old.

I don’t remember seeing a Charlton player as good at him at beating a man, CBT did it on raw pace alone but Small is arguably as fast as well as combining it with world class dribbling. We unearthed a gem and lost it within 18 months, not irreplaceable but you’d be a fool to think he’s not a massive loss.

    Anyway, back to transfer rumours…
World class dribbler FFS. The other day he was described as a cheat code in league 1. What is wrong with Charlton fans?

His dribble success rate last season was 47.6% according to Opta data, slightly above average but nothing crazy.

He was "dispossessed" of the ball 1.5 times per 90 minutes, about the league average. And he won about 40% of his duels for the ball, again close to the league average.

If he couldn't beat his full back with pace and power he often struggled to come up with a different way to beat the man. I think for that reason he has a lot of work to do to step up to being a regular at Championship level where the average full back will be bigger, quicker and stronger.
    Agree.

I think TC also has the same tough challenge ahead of him.

TC looked great against most league one full backs but next year he will be coming up against players of the quality of Grimmer & Beccles every week (who he couldn’t get the better of at all).

    Big step up.
I rewatched the play off final a few days’ ago. Tyreece gave Beckles a lot to think about and did on several occasions get the better of him and other Orient defenders. Not least winning the free kick off REG that we scored from. It wasn’t one of his most explosive performances - but that was true for players on both sides across the pitch.
It's a good point, people expecting Tyreece to excel in tight games where the opposition Manager has detailed his defenders to get 'stuck into Tyreece' early doors are probably not seeing the overall picture. As you rightly point out Weegie, the foul by Edmonds-Green brings the goal and if Edmonds- Green doesn't commit the foul, Tyreece is clear on goal. He will learn how to handle that type of marking.

As well as they both played at times last season, they also only scored 9 goals and got 4 assists between them in 90 games. To put that in perspective, in the season before, Blackett-Taylor got 8 goals and 6 assists in 25 games in our worst ever team - he hasn’t done much in the championship since.
  • New kit released on the day the window re-opens, coincidence?

  •  Charlton posted every Godden goal on insta yesterday. At least 3 were from small crosses.

he was frustrating to watch when he mis controlled a ball out for a throw or when he would cut in on the left and weakly shoot at the keeper

he was also a joy to watch when he beat three men with a flick and a burst of pace and strength

He is not the finished article and Preston will have some player if he develops

he was great on L1 but I’m not sure if he is what we need as a newly promoted club in the championship. I think we need a better defender and someone who doesn’t give possession away as much. Still a loss for us in my opinion
3 was the total …. Which is pretty poor really given the amount of good positions he found himself in

Would expect it to all be current players unless there's been someone signed for a week or so since those grainy photos were done and they just haven't announced them
  • 30 points more than PNE. Do me a favour.
I did read the original post as sarcasm/humour.

But, then again, I am delusional, if I say so myself.

Probably, I imagine they’d prefer to get more clicks, likes, interaction etc on social media by announcing the kit and any signings separately. Same reason we never see all the kits at the same time.
  • Can I be the first to say I don’t like the new kit.

3 in half a season seeing he didn’t play on the right until Christmas. 3 is for Godden only, not total!!

We can still sign players contracts this week, we can’t register them with the relevant authorities until Monday

  • Let's not forget that the opposition had two and sometimes three players harassing TC. It's up to the other players to utilise the space this is creating.
It's no surprise his apparent drop in productivity coincided with Berry and Small being out of the side in patches
  • Ahadme will probably play for us in pre-season, as we will need to prove to potential suitors that he is fit to play.

Think it will be a classic case of us having to drop our demands the later it goes in the window until it’s low enough for someone to take him with us paying at least half of his wages
  • Is there any date when Leaburn will be back in training. Really hope he can get a full pre season in

Agree.  Unfortunately, he’s the one recent signing that’s absolutely bombed.  I wish him well, but it would be good to get him moved on.  He’s a League 2 footballer at best

He’s 40 but made 37, 23 and 17 appearances for West Ham in the last 3 seasons, so should be capable in the Championship.

Good keeper for years.  Don't watch enough West Ham to know if he's on the way down and how quickly given his age though!

Would obviously be partly convenience for him but surely the wages would be astronomical? If true feels like it would be some signing

No that can't be right. He's 'world class'

Genuinely never ceases to amaze me the utter shit football fans come out with - on both sides of the fence!
