  • I’m not convinced Ahadme is a lost cause. I believe he was a Jones pick so I’d expect him to get Gassan fit and work on what he originally saw in him. Problem is that the fans have already made up their minds and it will be very difficult for him to win that battle. Ideally he needs to
    move on.
Whoever scouted Ahadme wants shooting. I watch a lot of non league football and I have seen better playing in the 5th division. I am not being clever after the event as at the time I was shocked when he was brought in. If we get another couple of strikers through the door I can see him going out on loan. Nathan picking Mbick told you everything you need to know about Ahadme.
  • I can't see many clubs matching Palace's valuation of £15 million for JRS. Clubs in the prem have that kind of dosh but he's still a bit unproven in the champ for a punt.

Hopefully no one moves for him and we can get him on loan later down the line. Would be a great player to have this coming season.

Quite happy we aren't in for Fabianski, can't see him being too cheap and I'd rather we get a keeper who can compete with Mannion long term.

The only potential way I see them getting that fee is if Southampton pocket a huge fee for Tyler Dibling and then use some of that to sign JRS.

With Ahadme £1m is a headline cost but I doubt we have paid anywhere near that and more likely closer to the £250,000. One of the downsides of promotion [which I'm happy to accept] is we probably had to pay more installment for Ahadme both to Ipswich and the player. Jeffers fee was always quoted around £600,000, but I don't believe we paid more than £200,000.  Equally Birmingham will have paid a further installment for May on promotion.
Also interesting, he didn't play more than 20 games in the season.. Being stuck on 19 after being fit, and playing younger players.. I reckon there would have been an update.

For him to end up behind Mbick in the pecking order is a pretty big indicator of how much NJ rates him. Just think he's going to be a tough one to shift
I suspect if the finances are okay then Cambridge will take him. Iirc he has scored more times at the Valley for them then for us

Do Cambridge rate him?  When we bought him I went on their fan forum expecting to see lots of positivity about him after being their top scorer.  Generally their fans were not fussed he wouldn't be coming back and couldn't understand why we were paying so much for him.

ARE YOU KIDDING - oh the few games I’ve seen him play last season at the valley…he was like A FISH FLAPPING if he didn’t get a ball to feet he would get mixed up if to control it with his feet or head and in the end he just ended up throwing himself at the ball like a fish out of water.

Oh there is no doubt he’s got the effort and running around but come on !

I also felt that Jones discovers quickly if a player is going to work for him or not within a few games - he just didn’t fit and Jones always wants a player to track back and make tackles whatever position they play - it’s all about the press…

Get rid of the Gas-man ⛽️
Those comments are all well and good but Nathan Jones was the manager that chose to sign him. Jones obviously saw / sees something he likes or at least liked. Now it could be he got it 100% wrong but I’m thinking that Jones will want to try and see if he can rehabilitate Gassan. Having said that, NJ certainly marginalised GA so we’ll see. I still think his best move will be elsewhere.

Yeah Southampton or Ipswich maybe, can't see anyone else going for him. Maybe Sunderland being a new prem side and having some cash. Think most of the other clubs with the dosh have better.

Suppose a move abroad isn't out of the question. A fair few English youngsters are testing themselves outside of England now.

I’m sure someone will do a deal, maybe lower than that with add ons or a loan with option to buy. Birmingham have been linked as they are missing out on Poku

I doubt Rak Sakyi would want to come back tbh, he will want another season with a top champ team where he can post the kind of numbers he’s capable of at this level

  • When we eventually sell/relese/loan Ahadme, as seems inevitable, I hope the deadline is OUT OF GASS
  • Do fear we’re going to find it a lot harder to get quality from the EFL over the line than many thought
yes .. a lot of lower league clubs now seem to have loadsa money to go after the talent that's available .. I hate to say this, BUT the fact that we just scrambled into the Championship might not make us an attractive proposition, unless like (say) e.g. M K Dons/Brum/Wexham we can offer big salaries .. I'll say it again, we surely need a big investment in players this close season .. as ever, we will see
Finishing 4th with 85 points and winning the play offs without conceding in any of the three games is not scrambling in to the Championship.
And in the 2nd half of the season only the runaway champions with their £20 million budget, tallied more points than Charlton

he was voted player of the month at least once and local radio named him their POTY - read a bit of stuff when he joined us, some of them must have seen something in him

Ipswich feels like a bit of a Championship all-stars side out wide with Jack Clarke , Omari Hutchinson (if he stays) , Chide Ogbene and Jaden Phillogene at their disposal. However JRS would be a nice replace for Hutchinson.

JRS going abroad I could see happening, enough Bundesliga clubs that would take the gamble on the potential.
  • Can’t wait for us to sign Rak sakyi as a wingback
  • I don’t see how rak sakyi fits into the way  Nathan jones wants to play anyways, heard various Sheffield United fans moaning about the lack of effort Rak-sakyi put in on the defensive side of the game
  • Thank god we're not after Fabianski... Really dont want us signing players in the absolute winter of their life if it can be helped, unless it benefits the team... e.g. You could see why Potts / Hylton were brought in

Even more interesting is we were offered Fabianski but said no
That to me reads, if palace don’t get what they want for him and loan him out again, we’d be very interested.

That actually gives me more hope for our window than signing Fabianski, could have been an easy big name signing with WOW factor but clearly going for the right player profile and with the future in mind.
Yes it does sound like Jones (and Chappel) are being given the autonomy to actually pick targets they want and we're not chasing "names" purely for the sake of it.

I remember the Cambridge fan on Charlton Life saying their fans liked him but were surprised when we signed him, because his ceiling is around midtable League One.

Of course we'd be interested, i think 90% of Championship clubs would be interested.

If i was Palace though and i've just seen him play a whole season in the Championship, then i'd be looking to see if the likes of Leeds, Burnley or Sunderland would take him on loan, to see how he does stepping up a level. Or even loan him to the Bundesliga where a lot of young foreign players seem to do well. I don't see how loaning him back to the Championship benefits them (unless of course they can't get him a top division loan).
  • Maybe Fabs agent offered him to us - there is no way we could afford his 💰👀 - even Rich sounds like he is scraping the barrel (I hope he doesn’t get any splinters)

He got player of the month in March 2024.  A month Cambridge played 5 games, let in 13 goals, scored 3 and got 4 points with one win. He played for a total of 44 minutes and scored once.  It was just a shit month for Cambridge.
ha, that is a level of context I didn't get to - fair enough 😂
  • I don’t see how rak sakyi fits into the way  Nathan jones wants to play anyways, heard various Sheffield United fans moaning about the lack of effort Rak-sakyi put in on the defensive side of the game
The thing is we don't know how he wants to play in the championship.

If Nathan wants someone younger than Fabianski I'm fine with that, but I would have fine with us signing him also. He's still in decent shape, and wanting to stay local for his family, so wouldn't have been after horrendous wages.

Of course it would be a short term signing, but I'd rather have the best keeper possible than worry about the following season.
  • I know this is a rumours and wish list type of thread but JRS is not going to be plying his trade with us next season. £15 million at PL prices probably isn’t too far out of whack so even if there are no takers I would imagine there would be many for a loan arrangement. Clubs much better fixed than we’ll be for him.

Ya never know. He had the form of his career here, he seemed to have a good rapport with us and will probably get a lot more game time than he would with other sides.

Only played 1732 minutes of football last season from a possible 3060, bit of a bit part player, but still managed 7 goals. Feel he might get more of a chance here, but who knows.

Either way would be a welcome back loan, similar to Josh Cullen when he came back.
  • I can't see JRS wanting to come back, he'll want to join a front foot Championship team fighting for promotion, not one grinding out results to stay up.
  • If we’re looking at bringing in fabianski for 1 year would rather take less of a gamble that he’s still got it and go for a loan keeper who would still be at the club for the same amount of time, guaranteed good enough for the level and on less money like a Walton at Ipswich. JRS coming back would make absolutely zero sense transfer fee wise, wage wise or a playing style wise. JRS would be the last player to suit a NJ system brilliant on the ball but cant play any other role than a RW which we don’t use, can’t press, can’t track back, doesn’t get stuck in. Don’t see where’d he fit I’d be sceptical going in for him even if there was a small chance we could get him back some players we just need to learn to move on from.
