Am I the only one not that excited about the prospect of signing Galbraith? He’s a good player for sure, but he’s not exactly ripped League One apart. I’ve seen him play a few times and thought he looked good, but not so good it warrants much clamour.
  • Wonder if we could get Poku with a 3 mill bid?
  • Richard J said:
Are there any players we could offer in part exchange? Alex Mitchell might be attractive to the O's and maybe loan one of our youngsters.
    Ahadme?
Think that would basically end our chances of ever negotiating with Leyton Orient again
I mean they got to the Play-Off Final with Sean Clare in their side, they must be able to work their hoodoo magic on Gassan
True he'd probably turn into Ivan Toney with them

Orient fans really don't like us anymore do they.
I'd give them Ahadme in exchange and really piss them off.

If we have offered 1.3 million and Orient have turned it down we should raise it to 1.5 million plus Ahadme.
Kelman's back at QPR so they need another striker.
    🤨
    Ahadme in deal making switch.
Send Orient a video of  his turn on a sixpence goal against Southend and they will be chomping at the bit to get that deal over the line.

    I’m not
If you can’t get excited about us pushing the boat out for a player who Orient fans say never plays under an 8 every game,  then you’ll never be happy
Don’t get me wrong, the thought of Charlton bidding £1m for any player gets me excited, let alone one who I know for a fact is a good player! Regardless I’m a little bit trepidatious, he’s never played in the Championship and I’m not even sure if he’s a right back or a midfielder.

Either way it’s fantastic to see us operating like a proper football club again.
  • According to Callum Fowler unnamed side has made a massive bid for DKD highly doubt it’s us because apparently it’s around 4-5M but will put that rumour to bed soon

I would say it's very unlikely we are in the running for Keillor-Dunn anyway, pipe dream stuff.

Can't see anyone really going for him as he has a lengthy contract and is unproven in the champ so clubs will be less likely to take the 5 million hit or whatever it is they're asking for. Barnsley owners absolutely minted and in no rush to sell either surely.

Could only see someone like Birmingham going for that if I had to guess.

  • Mustapha Bundu. The more I look into him the more I think he is one we might go for. Out of contract, in his prime and fits the characteristics Jones looks for. He is 6ft 2 and 72% of aerial duals won last season.

He would be an excellent signing. Versatile and dependable. There a reason Orient fans are slapping a big price tag on him. They believe he’s destined for top end championship football.

He’s one I thought and hoped we might to go for. Had a fantastic send half to the season.
  • Clubs are willing to spend £££ for an attacking player to provide the kind of season that Sam Szmodics did at Blackburn.

Keillor-Dunn is a good player, but is he really worth 4-5m?

Aged 27 now, so not a kid, and has spent the last 5 seasons in L1 and L2, 3 1/2 of those in L2.
I'd say he's worth between 3-5 million easily.

Of course value is always dependent on how much the buyer needs it, and how much the seller needs the money/if they want to sell.

You have a player who made team of the season, player of the year and nominated for player of the season. Had a great goal return and just in general a very consistent player.

We need goals going up a league, and we need more creativity in the middle and up top. He ticks both of those boxes. He's in his prime years and this is the chance to buy him when he is playing his best. All of those accolades justify the transfer fee. He would be worth more to us than a lot of other clubs as we don't have anything like it.

If you look at Conor Coventry for example, I would be furious if we sold him for for any less than 3-5 million, and he isn't as impactful as Keillor-Dunn, that's how you can weigh these things by looking at your own squad. If he was ours and under contract, how much would you value him.

The real trick was buying him from Mansfield when it was looking likely he was ready to make the step up. Out of reach now for us and I imagine a lot of others who would want him.
  • I’m slightly encouraged that we haven’t heard anything since the leak. Could it mean we’ve increased bid and we’re now talking with Orient or does it just mean the £1.3 million was just a cheeky speculative bid and we have now dropped out ?
It means we're not doing our business in public.
    Good to hear
    That would be disgusting

    This isn’t Katrien’s Charlton anymore.
    It never was !

Depends how you look at it would we be happy to spend 4-5M on DKD probably not we would say that’s too high. But if someone like Kayne Ramsay moved for less than 3.5M I’d be fuming whereas other clubs think that’s a perfectly reasonable fee. All comes down to the buying and selling club and what players you compare him to that also moved for similar price. 5M for DKD if you compared him to a 15-20M Stansfield looks like a bargain but if you compared him to Godden who cost 250k who averaged more G/A per 90 than him you would say 5M is a rip off (know age players a factor but still).

Do fear we’re going to find it a lot harder to get quality from the EFL over the line than many thought
yes .. a lot of lower league clubs now seem to have loadsa money to go after the talent that's available .. I hate to say this, BUT the fact that we just scrambled into the Championship might not make us an attractive proposition, unless like (say) e.g. M K Dons/Brum/Wexham we can offer big salaries .. I'll say it again, we surely need a big investment in players this close season .. as ever, we will see
We did not 'scramble' up, we are on a run where we lost only 4 games in 5 months ( same as Wrexham) and came within a game or two of automatic promotion.
It is not that it was a close shave. Not many teams get promoted by a large margin. It is that we got promoted by playing kick and rush, and hustling, pressing opponents into mistakes. That will not work in the Championship. Strengthening our team is one task, but we have to change the way we play as well. Is Nathan Jones up to it?

His Luton teams played much more expansive football. I think he played to the strengths of the group we had last season.and doing the basics well. I think he is more than up to it and so do the board. The job he did last year was outstanding.

As much as I absolutely hate to use them as an example. Millwall are the perfect example of that tactic being execute flawlessly for a team who probably exceeded expectations in the championship the most considering their budget, Oxford as well tried playing expansive football under Buckingham and probably would have got them relegated but they bring in Rowett and keeps them up playing ugly Murisic nearly did the same which he would have done if Rooney was sacked earlier. There is no right or wrong to play football but suggesting NJ needs to change his style of play which he’s proven is effective and can get to work at this level is silly. The reason we’ve given him a 5yr deal is because he’s our best chance of staying in this division so need to let him do it his way and if that’s not possession based attacking football so be it rather watch this team than the one I saw under Garner

DKD cost 700k a year ago. Yes he's worth more than that now, but after just one season as a regular goal scorer at L1 level, I certainly wouldn't spent 4-5m on him. Alfie May is a proven L1 goalscorer over several seasons, and went to and from us for way less than 1m.

Values rise once you prove you can do it at a higher level. Stansfield was WAY overpriced but scored 12 goal for Birmingham on loan last season, and had 5 years at Fulham and England youth caps to bump up his price.

Of course Barnsley might want to keep him, and might ask for 4-5m, that's their choice.

Finishing 4th with 85 points and winning the play offs without conceding in any of the three games is not scrambling in to the Championship.
