Sounds like a weird lie to be fair. I don't think he would make that up for no reason.

That's now the 2nd player we have been quite publicly linked with that we didn't up our bid for.

I know people will say "sounds like the club aren't letting themselves be mugged off" etc but these players cost money. For the sake of 300-500k twice to lose out on a desired target, it just isn't worth it, unless you can find someone of better quality for cheaper.

It's ok to say we are on a tight budget, which if 5-10m is true, that makes it the very lower end of champ. It might be that our budget heavily leaned towards Goalkeeper and a forward as those are two positions we definitely needed a player.

Just don't get why it seems we have this view now of "looks like we didn't want to pay then rather than we couldn't" when most signs point towards us just having a low but competitive championship budget. We are going to miss out on players if that's the case, and that is part of football.
Think it’s more the point we think a certain player is worth x amount and won’t pay over the odds. If you take what DMac says as being true where are all the other Championship sides queuing up for Mothersille if you believe he’s that good and available at a fair price? The lack of other interest suggests Championship clubs thinks he’s either not that good or they can do better elsewhere. You do seem fixated in seeing the negative in everything.
We simply cannot be compared to about 18-20 Championship sides as they have better squads, and proven championship players with bigger budgets. They aren't in a rebuild state like we are. Their targets will be completely different.

Malik did have Championship offers, QPR heavily linked (assume Poku signing changed their plans), if you bother to look at most other championship sides, you will realise they already have better quality. That's not to say Malik can't make the step up, it's just how good a lot of the players in this league are.

How am I fixated in being negative on everything? Was I negative about Tanto or Kaminski? I wanted us to sign Bell, we have, I'll post about that in a positive manner.

Offering 200-300k more or whatever it is is not paying over the odds, these are really low end championship transfer fees. I am highlighting the concern that when we appear to be in a transfer shootout, we are losing.
What about us beating Derby to Sonny Carey, who are already a championship side? If we were still stuck on 0 signings I'd understand your concern a little more but we appear to be recruiting well, quite early into the window. Let's hope we keep seeing quality incomings through the door over the next couple of weeks, really hoping we bring in some quality in that RWB position
Ramsey will be playing that role and a new right sided centre back will come
Maybe, but you also said Gillesphey and Mannion would keep their places, which now looks a lot less certain.
Why? Gillesphey will start v Watford , keeper position is up for grabs .. and that’s what you want

There’s no doubt Kaminski has come here to be first choice, Rich Cawley has confirmed that too.
Gillesphey (and Edwards to a lesser extent) won’t be guaranteed to start in the same way he was last season with Bell now here.
I hope AMB and Mannion are also with the club to be first choice. It’s a position that should continuously be up for grabs because those guys throw themselves around and get kicked. The 3 of them need to know that when they are fit and in form they will in contention to start and then it’s up to them to keep that spot for as long as they can and try and win it back if they lose it.
  • Was great news this morning regarding Amari'i, but we are now into pm, and looking forward to the next one, must be a reason why it was on the OS so early, so come on Charlton clocks ticking...
Tanto was at 9, I think the reason they do it that early is that people go and check the Twitter page or the website, it generates traffic the rest of the day with people looking for that mystical other signing. Just a way to exploit fans
"Exploit fans" is a bit strong.
Not really, not necessarily saying it’s bad. It’s just they know that fans will continue to look at social media pages/websites in the belief that next post or teaser will appear. Hence why that post it early then farm the engagement throughout the day.

Charlton Athletic isn’t an e-commerce brand that relies on clicks and engagement for revenue.
Everything is about clicks and engagement now. Don’t matter what a business is, it’s about getting people to view your page and posts. We may not rely on it but it’s how the world operates. What other reason would there be for 5 separate posts breaking down the Bell interview. It’s all for the engagement
I’m not saying they don’t do it for the engagement, but it’s not to exploit the fans.
  • It is interesting to see where we go for the RWB option which is a key position for us and the way we play.
I'd love Sorensen from Hudds. Imagine he'd cost a fair whack though

Doing with the knowledge that fans will continue to look throughout the day for a new update does exploit them, again not saying it’s a bad thing just how it is

Would be my main target too but I can't see Hudds wanting under £3m.

  • Suspect the early Bell announcement was because it was ready to go yesterday but the comms team held off after the Jota news

Nobody is guaranteed a place in the team BUT Kaminski hasn't been brought in to be a squad keeper, not with the fee we've paid, and the probable wages. If he loses form or gets injured, other keepers will get a chance, but otherwise he'll play every league game.

If we brought in a new number 9 for £3m, paying him £15k a week, then clearly he'd start the season as first choice ahead of Godden, however good Godden has been.
  • Would love us to try and get Grady Diangana, think he would suit Small's role. He can play numerous positions too.
  • Not particularly excited about this one. It adds depth to the squad, which is useful, but I worry Bell might be on a downward trajectory based on last season’s performances. That said, a change of environment and reuniting with the manager who previously got the best out of him could help spark a revival.

Let’s just hope the Luton recruitment phase is behind us now.

Kudos RedRobo, bang on the money!

He only cover …. It’s a squad game we need back up players as well as first team ones

Yes, I acknowledged he was brought in as cover, what’s your point? Classic Mr Idiot.
What’s the point of posting a message like that.

You made a perfectly good assumption of your thoughts and Ronnie replied with a perfectly good answer.

Hi all - been a while since I logged in, and just seen there is another John Fitzpatrick. Very exciting stuff. Hello other John Fitzpatrick. 👋
  • So we haven't signed anyone in the last couple of hours and the arguing starts.
    Classic Charlton life

Nice home video there Bob, how old were you then...🙄

    What position does he play?

Huddersfield fans absolutely hate him apparently been awful wasn’t able to even nail down the wingback position for Huddersfield throughout the season. Still think if Burke is our biggest interest at the moment Jones want Ramsay at RWB this season.
  • Who are we in for now?
    Dunno. It's a secret.
    And I didn't go to Glastonbury 🙂

  • Thinking about it, maybe a more defensively minded RWB wouldn't be the worst thing in the world given we will likely be fighting for our lives next season

I'd expect the RWB to be very much in the attacking mould. We've got the option of Ramsay if we need to be a bit more defensive minded.
Would tick a couple of boxes having more of a winger if we change shape too.

Yep, but lopsided wingbacks, one defensive, one more advanced - revolutionised the 2nd half of our season.

Both wingbacks being defensive reduces our outlet from defence and attacking thrust.
Do not disagree with this analysis at all but as a caveat that was in league one with teams sitting off us and some less than inspiring forward/midfield creative sparks at times. I feel being solid at the back could be an even bigger asset in the championship
  • We need two RWBs so it wouldn't hurt to have one of each. A flying RWB to provide width and force defences deeper and a proper defender for when we're playing the Southamptons of the division.

Wonder if we only buy an attacking one and in the harder games Ramsay shifts out and someone else comes into RCB

This is what I could see happening. Makes sense with the Burke and Hills rumours or maybe even Zach Mitchell
