Not fully Charlton related but ex player Alfie May is apparently signing for Huddersfield for £1.2m, do wonder if we included a sell on?
Must be having a really bad time finding those schools
Is he going to cry in front of a camera for the Birmingham fans as well?
  • I’d eat my hat if we get Kelman and knibbs. Would need silly money to get them imo and I doubt either reading or qpr would want to sell.
This is from their boss hunt

"We have made it clear to Harv that if a bid comes in that is substantial to take him away, fair enough. If not, he won’t be going"

I think QPR would be happy to sell, 23 games for them and no goals.
Knibbs has a year left on his contract and is unlikely to sign another with undoubtedly better wages else where so Reading would be stupid not to cash in while they can.
Buy both and Yates and move on Godden.

I thought the Huddersfield owner was salty as fuck about what went down between us, them and Birmingham 12 months ago, now he's welcoming May with open arms? Fickle bastard
One of the funniest things on Twitter was his reaction when they got beaten to him by Brum. Now having to pay nearly £500k than they wanted to pay last summer too.

The signings they're making and the money he's chucked around it will be very funny if they don't go up.
  • I can see Kelman happening but not Knibbs.
  • Can't see it being Kelman. Yates would make more sense. Knibbs I think will end up going to Sheffield United with Selles

That was in 23/24 when Kelman also had 14 games at Wigan.

I think it's been established that 24/25 was his breakthrough season and QPR now have to decide do they cash in or give Charlie another chance in the Championship at 23 years old 🤔

  • Never saw Kelman as a Jones type.
That said, he'd have a great mentor in Godden.

I'm a bit meh about it if I'm honest.
  • Not surprised on May, as good as he is I didn’t expect him to play in the Championship, especially with the budget Birmingham have.
  • Don't want Kelman. Prefer strikers with more speed about them.
    What’s Mbappe up to?

I got the impression at the time that Huddersfield was May’s preferred destination. Isn’t that where his family are/wife is from?

No disrespect to you, me or any other but Nathan, Phil, Dane and the Money men behind Charlton will decide if we take a punt on Kelman even if QPR are prepared to take 2 or 3 million or whatever is his value with one year left of his contract extension and he scored in League one in 24/25.

Also is it a rumour with legs or not.

I'm enjoying this window compared to the last 5 seasons.👏🏼

Out of contract next year, I think he will leave.
    Time will tell.
  • I think our next couple of signings are going to be flown in under the radar.

If we've got the budget I'd go for Nathan Lowe at Stoke. Scored for fun at Walsall last season , has been linked to Luton.

    Only 19 and already 6ft 4.
That rather depends on what our expectations are about Lowe right now and how quickly we might be looking for a return on that investment. Lowe going back to Stoke was a massively contributory factor to Walsall romping League 2 to not even gaining promotion. However, that is tempered by the fact that for Stoke in the Championship he has scored two goals in 24 appearances and there is already talk of them sending him out on loan to a League 1 club to further his development.

Possibly this could all be a smokescreen.

I think our next couple of signings are going to be flown in under the radar.

The latest score after taking an early lead with Sonny:

    Under the radar 1
    The Pope's a Catholic 6

    Charlton: 7
    Sonny Carey - Blackpool (Free)
    Thomas Kaminski - Luton (Undisclosed)
    Tanto Olaofe - Stockport (Undisclosed)
    Amari'i Bell - Luton (Free)
    Reece Burke - Luton (Undisclosed)
    Joe Rankin-Costello - Blackburn (Undisclosed)
    Rob Apter - Blackpool (Undisclosed)

Maybe with social media and local journalists on line and the myriad of podcasts around the country, 'Under the radar' is going the same way as the dodo, Betamax, Topic and time out chocolate bars.
  • I am hoping for a signing like Diangana.

Agreed, looked a bit ordinary at Wembley, too.

Surprise signings are more likely at the end of the window,  when instead of deals taking several days to go through,  last minute panic signings are more common, with clubs scrabbling around to sign or loan who's available. And ending up with their equivalent of our Matt Smiths...

Don't worry. It's all made up bollox. But at least it gets some people away from discussing team formations & whether Anderson can hack it in the Championship.
Yeah but does Karoy suit a 3421 or an inverted 4123 with an overlapping centre back and a single pivot quarterback, with a 10 playing in the 8 on the half turn?
That’s a great question Sam and one that I think deserves more analysis.  I consulted ChatGPT and asked for an in-depth and extra long answer in my prompt, because Golfie on Charlton Life (a Charlton football fan’s forum) wanted to know more.

Here’s what they came back with

To establish himself as a first-team regular at Charlton Athletic, Karoy Anderson, like any aspiring professional footballer, needs to focus on a combination of factors:

    1. Consistent High-Level Performance:

    • On the Pitch: This is the most critical element. He needs to consistently perform at a high level in training and whenever given an opportunity in matches (whether starting or coming off the bench). This means demonstrating his technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical fitness game after game.

    • Reliability: Managers need players they can trust. He needs to minimize errors and show that he can execute the game plan consistently.

    2. Technical Skill Refinement:

    • Ball Control & First Touch: Essential for any midfielder to retain possession and create opportunities.

    • Passing Range & Accuracy: The ability to execute both short, incisive passes and longer, accurate balls to switch play or find teammates.

    • Decision-Making: Knowing when to pass, dribble, shoot, or hold the ball. This comes with experience and tactical understanding.

    • Using Both Feet: While he's right-footed, developing proficiency with his left foot will make him more unpredictable and effective in various situations.

    • Position-Specific Skills: As a central midfielder, this includes defensive actions (tackling, interceptions, positional awareness), aerial duels, and potentially contributing to goal-scoring or chance creation.

    3. Tactical Understanding and Adaptability:

    • Understanding the System: Knowing Charlton's preferred formations, tactical instructions, and how his role fits into the overall team strategy.

    • Positional Awareness: Being in the right place at the right time, both offensively and defensively.

    • Adaptability: Being able to play different roles within the midfield (e.g., defensive midfield, central midfield, attacking midfield) if required, as well as adjusting to in-game changes.

    4. Physical Development & Endurance:

    • Cardiovascular Fitness: Being able to maintain high intensity for the full 90 minutes.

    • Strength & Agility: Essential for winning duels, protecting the ball, and quickly changing direction.

    • Injury Prevention: Maintaining peak physical condition to avoid injuries that would keep him out of contention.

    5. Mental Attributes:

    • Resilience & Mental Toughness: The ability to handle pressure, bounce back from mistakes or setbacks, and maintain focus.

    • Work Rate & Commitment: Demonstrating a strong desire to improve and contribute to the team, both on and off the pitch.

    • Coachability: Being open to feedback, eager to learn, and willing to implement instructions from the coaching staff.

    • Confidence: Believing in his own abilities and taking calculated risks when appropriate.

    6. Professionalism:

    • Discipline: Adhering to club rules, training schedules, and maintaining a professional attitude.

    • Teamwork & Communication: Integrating well with teammates, communicating effectively on the pitch, and contributing positively to the team environment.

    • Consistency: Delivering strong performances not just occasionally, but consistently across matches and training sessions. Scouts and coaches look for reliability.

Karoy Anderson is a Charlton academy graduate, has signed a long-term contract, and has already gained senior experience, including international recognition with Jamaica. This indicates he has talent and potential. The key for him now will be to consistently apply and develop these areas to demonstrate to the coaching staff that he is a reliable and impactful player who deserves a permanent starting spot.

  • This is a good one!
Are they purposely trying to create some sort of rivalry with someone/anyone because they've had none for the past 150 years of their existence?

Hope there were lessons learned from this episode @Off_it 🤣

Not sure we’ll be doing the scrabbling around signings this season.

Would like to think we're all done before deadline day unless there's something that needs to added due to injuries.

Would be nice if deadline day was just a few youngsters and out of favour players going out on loan
