  • Heading into the play-offs, I'd much rather Chuks than Josh Parker.
That's like saying you'd rather death by chainsaw rather than a bullet to the head. Would rather swerve both.

Anyway, each to their own, I can't stand when he comes on the pitch now, hopefully I'm eating my words by the end of the season.
Braziliance, do you recall the half volley at mansfield and the curler towards the top corner against lincoln which was almost a replica of his goal against Rotherham (I think I'm not imagining that, can definitely remember that effort from him recently although could have been a different game)?

Both of which were tipped round the goal by the keeper.

There's barely a player in our current squad capable of moments like those, and Josh Parker again, like Ahadme, barely had an attempt on goal in his run in our team.

I can understand people see things differently and some may not like Chuks contributions anymore as much as others, but those sort of moments can't be ignored if you are viewing things objectively
  • What’s the frightening thing…
Gassan Ahadme, but not in a good way.

Poor old Gas looks to have dropped another place in the pecking order. Feel for him but it’s been a bit of a disaster so far. Hopefully he has a moment of redemption to come, somewhere in the run-in, but Mbick immediately looked faster and stronger than Gas yesterday and, subsequently, had more impact than Gas has tended to manage.
  • Chuks can be effective, but he needs another mobile striker alongside him. Stockley (especially after his back injury) was similar, a good physical presence but too static to play the lone striker role.
  • Flag dedicated to Bod's memory seen on tv. A year ago on the 10th April. He would be enjoying this run in I'm sure.

On the note of Chuks, how shit must Jones think Gassan is that not only Chuks get in ahead of him, but a completely unproven Mbick.

Chuks is beyond lazy now, it's actually a bit of a liberty at this point. I'd rather Mbick be on the pitch ahead of him, Chuks has lost everything about him that made him as impactful as he was, and with this run of games being so important there should be no room for sentiment.
I'm not sure you can accuse him of being "lazy" as such. But he's definitely immobile and a shadow of his former self these days. Maybe that's him playing within himself a bit, for fear of something else going ping. But not lazy.
If you're coming on as a late sub as a striker, and you aren't closing down every loose chance or ball when your team are 1 up, you're either lazy, or not fit for purpose. Either way, he's not someone I'm happy seeing come on.

He literally passed the ball off the pitch for a throw in yesterday under next to no pressure, and let a ball go straight by him all because it looked like he couldn't be bothered. Cause I sure as shit know he ain't daft.

I'm sorry but it's taking the piss. 8 grand a week or whatever it is, should warrant far more. Hopefully after this season it's the last we see of players soaking up wages and having little impact on our team.
If he didn't have a role to play, Jones wouldn't pick him or play him. Of course there are elements to his game that are negative but there are also positives. Have a bit more faith in the manager.
No manager in the entirety of English football has a team they're completely happy with. There will always be players they'll know deep down aren't ready or good enough.

Sometimes you have to play with the hand you are dealt.

Frankly I find it ridiculous you've felt the need to say to me to have a bit more faith in the manager when I've said nothing bad about him.

It's a post match thread discussion and my focus is on a player who when he comes on, it feels like we have 10 men, that's it.

If Godden was 5 years younger, and Tyreece wasn't carrying a bit of a knock, Chuks wouldn't even be coming on in his current form.
Your argument doesn't stand up on this though. Jones could bring on another striker but chooses to bring on Chuks. Now that isn't saying Chuks is brilliant but it is saying that in the eyes of Jones he is our best option in the current circumstances and can do a job. What is the point of being so negative towards the player? Especially when you don't seem to take a smidgeon of disagreement well yourself. You have found me ridiculous but all I did was suggest you show some more faith in the manager who clearly has a different view on Chuks.
Bring on what striker though? We are down to the barebones, and outside our starting XI, our squad isn't close to top6 if we are honest. Our starting XI is arguably the 2nd best in the league however.

There isn't a point? It's post match thread, fans of clubs discuss positives and negatives, I was just highlighting what I saw yesterday.

I don't find you ridiculous, I find the comment of having faith in a manager ridiculous. How do I not have faith, 5 and a half hour round trips for home games, similar for aways, I've non-stop praised him since the turnaround. I don't see how that's not having faith? I genuinely think we have the best manager in the league despite his hands being tied.

Back to my original point, I think Chuks the individual was poor, I've explained why (lack of pace, fitness, technique and impact) that's all there is to it.

If that gives off the view Iack faith in our manager or I'm being negative, so be it, it's a post match views thread.

I remember Chuks nearly scoring goals, but not scoring them, and then offering next to nothing other than that?

2 assists in the last 3 on paper, one was a complete accident (Lincoln) the other (Mansfield) a very simple pass to Tyreece who did all the hard work and got a great individual goal.

Just saying it as I see it.

Just like many were overrating Chuks when he was ‘contributing more’, I think many are underrating his contribution now.

Yesterday when he did his job absolutely fine, the moment he came on, the ball started sticking up top a lot more than he did previously did.

Brazillance you seem to take posts against you and your opinion very personally, but I do think you open yourself up to the sort of rebuttals you get when your opinion is often so strong.

I don’t think Jones is the sort of manager to let anyone ‘cruise’. And considering the obvious squad harmony and togetherness I’d say it’s more likely everyone is pulling their weight - rather than Chuks stealing a living because he’s not ‘as good’ as he once was.
    I don't take it personally.

I am replying to people/discussing a player. Texts can be deceptive. Just because I'm not posting emojis it doesn't mean I'm not relaxed.

I post blunt, I reply blunt. Remember the 7-38-55 rule of communication when reading texts. 60-70% of communication is decided by body language, tone of voice, facial expressions. You can't determine much over how I post on a footballing forum.

As an example, I've got the shits today so I've been squeezing one out most of the time I've posted today, that's about the only stress I've felt while on here or felt anything of a personal nature.

What's the alternative? I don't reply and ignore all posts that are different to my view? Wouldn't be much point in posting on here in the first place. It's a shame if it comes across that way that I'm on the edge, cause if you speak to me in person, I'd like to think I'm quite approachable.

I'm all good other than this dodgy stomach mate. Been on a sugar detox so I'll blame the sudden sugar intake over the weekend.

Certainly not a great game, but a good goal and an away win in glorious sunshine. The ref had no alternative but to book Campbell for his retaliation but how the Cambridge player involved wasn’t cautioned for his elbowing, tripping and shirt grabbing is beyond understanding.

  • Steve Brown was quite perceptive re Chuks yesterday - that he always battles the defender rather than looking for space which Godden does so well.

I’m still a fan of Chuks and would love him to get us a crucial goal before we wish him on his way.

I think he relishes the challenge of battling with them, and sees it as important part of his game. Perhaps one of the reasons NJ persists with bringing him on. Battling with Chuks while tired must be awful.
  • Second one was to Doc I think..... after TC shoved the guy and got booked....... NJ was shouting to Doc....... 'coach him, go and coach him'......... the last thing we needed was for TC to get a red. Good management all game long from the guys.
That's good to see. One of my pet hates is a player on a short fuse being allowed to chunter and get more wound up, with no senior pro taking his aside, calming him down and refocusing him.

Senior players need to be vocal on the pitch.

But he had to be in the position to make those passes. You've really got it in for the bloke and it's coming across a bit strange, he sets 2 goals up in 3 and you even poke holes in that.

He is giving what he can when his body is clearly letting him down which is commendable comsidering the shit we have walk through the doors. Sure, he isn't the Chuks of old but give him a break.
It's coming across strange that on a post match thread of a game a player played in, I am highlighting one of the negatives?

I could understand if during a general pub quiz I shouted at random about Chuks work rates, but on a Charlton message board, I'm not so sure to be honest.

I mentioned the assists cause they don't really justify all the other bad, it's not like he's laser focused passing or skinning two people and putting it on a plate. A deflected shot someone got on the end of and a sideways pass.

But now of course as there has been so much discussion around it, it looks like I have an agenda.

I just want to say I'm the same person that 2 years ago said that Chuks at his best can play any level of football because of his physicality. I will always say it how I see it. I've been no stranger to compliment Chuks when he's been at it. He's just a shadow of his former self now.

Last post on it now cause it's been about 6 or more replies over a criticism over a players performance.

Also, always have some rehydration powder/tablets in your medicine cupboard.
Absolutely vital when you have the runs, will make you feel so much better.👍
  • Even though chuks is physically disabled we shouldn't get on his back because sometimes it's the friends you make along the way.
