Makes no difference were we play we will always be Charlton Athletic . Owning the ground is no difference in my opinion
Except if the lease runs out and we have nowhere to play. Just a minor point of course.
I’m not sure the council would allow a site like the valley sit empty and fall into disrepair today is a different world to the 1980’s. What exactly has our Belgium friend got to gain apart from losing £500k a year rent and the site maintained ? He might be mental but he is also a businessman first and foremost. He might not agree to selling it but I suspect if that the case it is a decision based on a rental ROI rather than spite
When was the last time you visited Woolwich, Plumstead or Abbey Wood? I say that as resident of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, a borough i was born in & lived in all my life.

We're digressing from someone saying we have our Charlton back, and another disagreeing because of the separation between Club ownership and assets. A bunch of disparate American owners with a temporary interest in our Club seem no more Charlton in their affiliations to me than Roland did. (albeit they come to some games)
Our identity comes from playing at the Valley, as was painfully obvious when we weren't. We still are, so although Roland casts a shadow, I don't feel any loss of identity with the Club, and the fact is we've improved from 16th to 4th this season, so moving in the right direction.

Clive I bow to your far better knowledge than me re the likely actions of Greenwich Council but business wise it would make zero sense to kick a business out that is paying you £500k a year whilst maintaining your asset when there is little likelihood of a better alternative. The valley is our home and I think will be for the foreseeable future

Yes, unless the lease runs out and we aren't playing at The Valley. How many years are left on the lease is it 6 years?

I agree, the council would likely be quite happy for it to be sold off for housing. Think of all that extra council tax.
The main reason they wouldn't, is because the fight the supporters would put up.
If we were 100% guaranteed to have a friendly landlord in perpetuity, who would let us remain at a reasonable rent, then I may agree.

No surprise he separated the assets, had zero interest in the footballing side of things. We're in a very dangerous position, I'd rather be Dushitelet's side of the net.

Thought it ran until 2035 tbh, but could be wrong. One thing I'm fairly sure of is that, if we go up and Roland is in negotiations, the goalposts will move upwards on price .

At one point, Gavin Carter repeated that the owners had a five year perspective and that it would be the 3rd season before we'd be out of this league. In that at least, he and Methven have been saying the same thing all along. And as GC said, it means that even getting to the play-offs means we are a bit ahead of the plan, while winning them would be a major acceleration, and will bring challenges just to keep our status once are there.
We'd do well to keep that in our heads. It's pointless telling ourselves not to get carried away, but we have to be prepared for not making it ( I do it by reminding myself how close we came to completely fucking up the Doncaster play off) and not turn against the owners if we are still in this bloody league next season.
I don’t think there is any risk of that. Fans would only react badly if they saw the team bring dismantled subsequently for no reason other than financial. You can’t blame or credit owners for the outcome of individual games.
I do think the five year thing is bollocks though. Not going up this year next year or the following year would be failure by any reasonable measure.
Not going up this season is failure.
Come on, Elfs. That's neither fair nor sensible.
They bought a hollowed out club. Not least on the fitness and medical side. They got the right guy in, but he couldn't fix all that overnight (BTW if Small Jones and Berry are all fit for tomorrow, that will affirm my personal choice of Will Abbott as POTY😉)
They then aimed their playing budget for 5th biggest. So that implies nothing more than a play-off place which is exactly what we've got. But based on what GC said, I'd say they were expecting something like 8th. Players like Coventry Edwards and Ramsey are investments for the future. I fear Ahadme was supposed to be one too, but you'll be hardly find a club that hasn't got at least one expensive dud signing.
Don't get me wrong mate, I want us to win these play-offs, and I believe we are good enough all round to do so, but if we don't, we should still count this season as a huge step forward. Not failure. No way.

Getting out the league is all that matters. Bouncing back from play off defeat would be a very tough ask.
I don’t buy the foundations are much improved arguments. They will soon begin to crumble if NJ doesn’t hang around and the crowds again dwindle.
We didn’t invest in the squad enough and you just have to do that if you want to quickly get out the league. And I don’t hear positive noises in that regard.
We are overachieving currently in spite of the tight self imposed restrictions.

How much cash (their own I freely admit) they will throw at the squad.
‘Streamlined squad’ smacks more of cost saving than balancing an ideal number of players to me.

Not sure if you attended the Q&A or not but they both made it pretty clear that money would be there for NJ if needed. Think the streamlined squad thing is definitely a him thing, especially as it was bloated before he arrived

More money next year in League1 did you interpret?
Not many on here thought we had a bloated squad I’d suggest however
Certainly we had players that were not up to the task needed to move on but as injuries currently show we are threadbare.
But I digress.
My point has always been reaching the play offs counts for little if we don’t make it notwithstanding the monumental achievement since Christmas.

The money conversation was in a Championship context as I think understandably minds weren’t on L1! I think lots of people said there was deadwood/people that needed to be shifted at the least.
Personally I believe that NJ was happy to rely on academy players when needed and that this wasn’t forced on him.
I also think even if we don’t go up the play offs have proved something. Our owners have seen fans turn up more and the demand for tickets for Thursday, that shows that there’s a value to the investment if they get things right. There’s an audience there willing to spend money if they’re willing to spend and increase the quality on the pitch

Think of all that extra council tax.
The main reason they wouldn't, is because the fight the supporters would put up.
If we were 100% guaranteed to have a friendly landlord in perpetuity, who would let us remain at a reasonable rent, then I may agree.
But that cannot be 100% guaranteed.
We're in a very dangerous position, I'd rather be Dushitelet's side of the net.
No way.
Random fact.
not so sure.
Not many on here thought we had a bloated squad I’d suggest however
Personally I believe that NJ was happy to rely on academy players when needed and that this wasn’t forced on him.
I also think even if we don’t go up the play offs have proved something. Our owners have seen fans turn up more and the demand for tickets for Thursday, that shows that there’s a value to the investment if they get things right. There’s an audience there willing to spend money if they’re willing to spend and increase the quality on the pitch
Hadn’t seen Warwick before. Seems a nice fella and lovely to give up his time for the interview when he must be right in the middle of GCSE revision.
