Also watched Mongol on Thursday night (nothing to do with Millwall). Very watchable film from Khazakstan about the early life of Ghengis Khan. Like Ormiston, I love French films of which we have been blessed with plenty of late on World Movies and SBS. Watched a bizzare Japanese film last night....cant remember what it's called but will look it up....gotta love the Japs on full perve, they do it so well.0

I have been trying to track down a copy of a Ukranian film called " a friend of the deceased" I saw it a few years ago on tv and cannot find a copy for love nor money. Seems it was released on VHS but that's as far as I can go. Suggestions would be welcome.

I watched a film called THE INTOUCHABLES on the plane when we went New York is was bloody brilliant and had me laughing out loud which is a bit embarrassing. It's a french Film that has apparently taken the country by storm about a rich paralysed aristocrat and a lad from the ghetto who becomes his carer. I would urge people to watch it ,bloody brilliant film.

Two films I really enjoyed and would watch again and again are the French comedies: Welcome to the Sticks and Nothing to declare. Both directed by and starring Dany Boon.0

Haven't had time to read the whole thread but I will do as it is a genuine area of interest to me.
Del Toro a genius by the way.0 -
No argument with that either...Addickted2TheReds said:

Off the top of my head:
Amores Perros
Y Tu Mamba Tambien
City Of God
Bombon: El Perro
Jean De Floret & Manon Des Sources
The Mesrine films.
I'm also a big fan of Takeshi Kitano, and of his films I'd particularly recommend Kikujiro and Hana-Bi, but also his Violent Cop, Boiling Point, Sonatine and Kids Return.0 - Sponsored links:

Norwegian film doing the rounds on Sky called Jackpot, well worth a watch. Very much in the Lock Stock/Snatch style. Quite gruesome but very funny.0

Bombon was a bloody struggle when I watched it, and I'm usually into the more thought provoking stuff.hawksmoor said:Bombon: El Perro
I've had the Tokyo Story trilogy on my shelves for about 5 years, still haven't watched them all. Late Spring was cool but I really have to be in the right mood, silly really when Tokyo Story itself is regarded by some as the best film ever.
Les Enfants du Paradis and Das Boot have been there a similar time. Stupid Fopp making me spend money on films and CDs I didn't necessarily want...

I would definitely recommend any of the following in this order:-
1. Le Samourai - France 1967
2. The Lives of Others - Germany 2006
3. Diva - France 1981
4. Le Cercle Rouge - France 1970
5. Tesis - Spain 1996
6. Amelie - France 2001
Also worth a watch which I saw a couple of weeks ago on DVD was 'A Prophet' a french prison drama about a young arab who gets taken under the wing of a mafia boss inside who he carries out a hit for.0 -
Beat me to it.. brilliant film!Absurdistan said:Amores Perros

Brilliant film. Some French new wave films (breathless to name one) are incredibly modern pieces of cinema even now.Indigo Joe said:
