Simeon Jackson - Released by Norwich

In Jackson's only season in the Championship he scored 13 goals. Started 20 games and was 3rd choice behind Holt and Martin at the time. Previous to that he had got double figures in every season.

Of course stats don't mean too much, it can depend on the club and style of play as much as anything else. But I believe Jackson won't be short of offers in the Championship and if we pulled this one off, we could have a proper goal scorer on our hands.

Would make sense in a way, having previously lived around the southern area, playing for Dulwich Hamlet, Rushden & Diamonds and Gillingham. Powell sign him up! (If we can afford to..)

Some of the figures on here are madness, we were probably barely paying players 15K per week in the Premier League, let alone in the bloody Championship.

With turnover at 8 million a wage of 15K per week would mean we were paying nearly 10% of our total income on one player - that is obviously bollocks.

Would be very surprised if many players at Charlton were on much more than 5K per week, most on less than that.

20 goal a season striker's don't really come around too often and if they do they are worth more than what we can actually afford which at the moment is nothing. So to say jackson won't improve our squad is daft

He scored 13 as a third choice striker in the championship starting only 20 games. I think he would grab a hat full with us.

I would love it if he signed.

but he scored 13 in 20, equating to over 20 in a full season? So you're clearly wrong there. Not saying he would score 20, but imo 15 would do anyway. You're quick to tell others their wrong, but its just your opinion.

from what i have seen of him i dont believe he is as good as others think he is

in another team that plays differently to us then maybe he can score 20 goals but we either play slow with plenty of passing or we lump it to yann and go for flick ons he is a player more suited to quicker build up play we dont do that



i may be wrong but i only recall him having 1 really prolific season and that was at Gillingham

I saw him play for Norwich against Scunthorpe a couple of seasons ago. He came on as a second half sub. and scored a hattrick in 15 mins. Norwich won 6-1 that day. Jackson was very impressive but like most strikers very much a confidence player.

If the rumours are to be believed, we want Vaughan as well.

Whether SJ is the answer and whether he is good enough / can afford his wages , I don't know , but if we do sign him I'm prepared to get behind him and support him as I did with Danny Haynes.

More to the question, why when he was at Norwich was he deemed a 3rd choice striker?

Style of play, injury prone, or just not as good as the other two?

People might bat more of an eyelid if it was their money. Which of the two scenarios do you reckon would cost more over a two year contract? How much do you think agents skim and signing on fees would factor in? Also, if the player does well and you extend the contract your "free" transfer is probably going to be double the running cost of your paid one.

Cherries: Jackson could be bound for Dean Court after leaving Canada Gold Cup squad

STRIKER Simeon Jackson yesterday left Canada’s CONCACAF Gold Cup squad, fuelling speculation he could be on the verge of joining Cherries.

News of his departure surfaced just hours after the Daily Echo had revealed Cherries were believed to be close to reaching an agreement with the former Gillingham and Norwich frontman.

The Canadian Soccer Association announced that Jackson – the leading scorer in the Maple Leafs squad at the Gold Cup – had decided to leave a training camp in Seattle to pursue an opportunity with an unnamed European club.

According to the CSA, the 26-year-old, who was a second-half substitute in Canada’s humiliating 1-0 defeat by Martinique in California on Sunday, “departed camp with the blessing of the team’s staff”.

Daily Echo sources understand Jackson is today due to fly back to England and could then head to Dean Court to finalise his move to Cherries later this week.

Jackson, who made 13 appearances for Norwich in the Premier League last season, is available on a free transfer following his release by the Canaries.

And although he is also reportedly a target for a number of other Championship clubs, Jackson is believed to be ready to commit himself to Cherries.

Meanwhile, Cherries are today expected to complete the signing of Mohamed Coulibaly on a free transfer from Swiss giants Grasshoppers, as revealed by the Daily Echo yesterday.

Coulibaly, who joined Howe’s squad during last week’s training camp in south Germany and Switzerland, was among the crowd for last night’s pre-season friendly at Christchurch.

The 24-year-old striker, who can also operate as a winger, is understood to have agreed personal terms with Cherries and will sign, subject to passing a medical.
