If we are restricted to signing young Belgian players who have close connections to Millwall or are related to the coach, will we be able to field 11 players in August?3

Interesting and plausable rumour, pinched from Wynn Grant's site:-
''I have also heard of some rumoured interest in Mark Schwarzer. Idea is that he comes in as number 1 and mentor to Nick Pope, with the hope/expectation that Pope will take the number 1 spot by the end of the season. Schwarzer wants to stay in London and sees us as a perfect place to play some football at a reasonable level now that Hamer has left the building''27 -

Now that would be a good signing. Hard to believe but Wyn seems to know what he is talking about. Would be a very positive signal.Essex_Al said:Interesting and plausable rumour, pinched from Wynn Grant's site:-

Schwarzer wouldnt only be a good experienced Goalkeeper for the Championship (i.e. he proved for Chelsea he's still got it.. albeit with the one mistake against Sunderland) yet he would also be a brilliant figure to have around the ground and as a mentor for Nick Pope as stated in @Essex_Al's post0
-
Wyn is rarely wrong and wouldn't post anything unless he had heard it from a good source. But as he said, at this point it's just a rumour.
Would be a great signing though, champions league semi final to an away day at Rotherham inside 6 months.0 -
Would be really happy with that.Essex_Al said:Interesting and plausable rumour, pinched from Wynn Grant's site:-

Would love this to be true. Great keeper and would teach Pope loads. yes please RD.0

Strangely i was watching videos on Youtube of the last few World Cups and Schwarzer makes a ridiculous amount of errors. That said i still think he would be a good keeper for us and would be a big influence on players like Pope.Essex_Al said:Interesting and plausable rumour, pinched from Wynn Grant's site:-

Anyone remember a back pass to him when we were playing Fulham that went through his legs and into the goal... was a funny moment (but I did feel a bit sorry for him).0
-
Should note, Wyn didn't say the Schwarzer rumour himself. Someone commented at the bottom of an article.0

Like the sound of that, thankfully all the manager nonsense is over now and we can focus on getting a competitive team together.0
-
Agree, now the manager has gone and a few players we wanted to keep are gone (Morro and Poyet aside). Hopefully we can concentrate on new signings, and getting the relevant experience and quality in for a mid table finish at least. It won't be summer of roses but hopefully the worst is out the way.Nug said:Like the sound of that, thankfully all the manager nonsense is over now and we can focus on getting a competitive team together.

Don't see it myself, wages would be quite high, would rather give pope a chance and see how it goes.
Use the wages to keep Poyet and sign up Gomez for long deals4 -
why would the club want Schwarzer to coach Nick when we have goal keeping coach in Ben Roberts, or has he also gone?1
-
SLP said Roberts signed a new contract.0

I would imagine he'll play and Pope will gradually get games, I've not seen Pope and although he's seems to have done really well, he's still very young, be a big leap of faith to make him the number one straight away.lancashire lad said:why would the club want Schwarzer to coach Nick when we have goal keeping coach in Ben Roberts, or has he also gone?

Yes please to schwarzer0

I would be happy with either of the Goalkeeper rumours that have been posted and having looked at Wyn Grant's site he was repeating the Casteels rumour.
I think because we have 2 good young keepers in Pope and Phillips the Schwarzer rumour appeals to me more. Casteels being of a similar age might block Pope rather than act as a role model to him. I normally find there are connections with transfers .Was Ben Roberts at Middlesbrough at the same time as Schwarzer ? Maybe this could actually be a positive factor in attracting him.1 -
Any developments on the O'Grady rumour yet? Do we know if there's any substance to it?0
-
That was Van der Sar. He miss controlled the back pass from a Fulham player and the ball was placed into an empty net by a Charlton playercafc-west said:Anyone remember a back pass to him when we were playing Fulham that went through his legs and into the goal... was a funny moment (but I did feel a bit sorry for him).

There's been a bid accepted now it's just down to terms , medical and if he wants to move to London .OsamaBenHamer said:Any developments on the O'Grady rumour yet? Do we know if there's any substance to it?

Would definitely welcome Schwarzer. And if RD is planning on blooding a load of academy players a few new signings with plenty of experience will be beneficial to them. Now get Poyet and Morrison signed up a.s.a.p.1

IF there are legs in this latest rumour, it indicates that a lot of thought is going into the way forward for next season & beyond.
That in itself fills me with hope that the future is not as bleak as we fear...
However, as with the O'Grady Sez rumour, we need signings to be confirmed sooner rather than later for the benefit of all concerned ....and to hopefully increase season ticket sales.
One sure way of getting fans onside though would be confirmation of Diego & Morro's signatures on new contracts.
Come on RD & Katrien !! You know it makes sense !!!1 -
Both myself and Nick Pope will be extremely disappointed if he (NP) is not our No1 next year.0
