Just to play Devils advocate for a second.. Would we be so excited if the fee for Vetokele turned out to be 500k?

In other words are we pre-judging the player on what we have heard/what he has done or simply the price tag (and the excitement of Charlton spending over a mill for a player for the first time in years).

£2.4million? I'll believe that when it comes from RD's mouth and not until then. Looks like a positive signing and I'm very pleased to have him

Both in my case, the reports have been very impressive about this regardless of the fee, BUT if even the rather fiscally prudent RD is willing to spend big bucks that has to be taken as a good sign.

Hopefully Angola won't qualify for the African cup of Nations...

Sounds like a good signing though. Well done RD and BP!

Roland may be many things, but he doesn't strike me as the type to overspend if he doesn't need to.

I have a very good feeling about Igor! The same feeling i had when we signed Mendonca, At that time i said to my mate we are going up! So I will say it now WE ARE GOING UP!!!! also Buyens is gonna make a huge difference too

So have I. I think he'll finish top scorer with 5 goals in 46 games. (:

Delighted to see RD splash the cash on a striker who's scored goals in the Danish League, lets not knock Denmark or Danish football the top division will always have good quality teams and players and I would guess that the top teams of Denmark including Copenhagen would more than compete with most teams in the Championship.

And if he's on say £10k a week how much would this have compared to a player like O'Grady? Now you can see why RD declined to meet O'Grady's demands when he can get a striker with the pedigree of Vetokele on cheaper wages.

I think RD has played this one well, he's made the investment knowing he will at least get his money back on the deal. If he bangs in 20+ goals for us this season he could get us promoted to the Premier League - you only have to look at Burnley to see a decent team but not the best in the league get promoted because they had 2 good goal scorers.

If he bangs in 20+ goals for us and we don't go up, RD may well cash in on him knowing he has 4+ years left on his contract and could easily fetch double the amount paid if you take Ross McCormack's £7m valuation as an example.

And if it doesn't work out for him with us then RD can move him on to another club within the network (Standard?) in a league which he may prefer if he doesn't settle in England and may then find his form to at least be sold on again for the price paid for him especially in that he's 22 and young enough for him to hold or increase his value for some time.

A smart move from RD lets hope he works out and we can now back this signing up with other players of similar valuation.

Does sponsorship come into FFP now? We have three kit sponsors now and no one knows how much they're worth.

Won't be long till we have another few transfers to tuck our hands into... like Christmas this..

You said that last week ;)
About 3 days ago, that we should have a bunch coming in over next 5 days or so. It's not just contracts these guys have to sign, it's sorting out their housing, new lifestyle . Be surprised if one isn't revealed tomorrow to be fair
Peeters suggested they are looking to replace Hamer and Dervite + a couple of additions. Is it possible to indicate the rough value of the next arrivals? If they are high value then it makes good career sense for Poyet to stay put as we will be a completely different proposition from last season.
Our Academy plus a few key signings scouted by the network is what I've been predicting for a while now. I never dreamt they would be €2-3m players though.
Duchatelet drops season ticket prices and improves the squad within six months of acquiring the club! What's not to like?

All revenue counts for FFP - our commercial revenue has been one of the lowest in the division so an opportunity to cut losses or increase playing budgets.

Hardly the prediction of the century @mystic_kev and considering the offer for CoG not very accurate...

I don't know much about him to be fair, but this is a fee that suggests he is going to be a high end championship player.

    Not forgetting World Cup Reza.

Whether it's CoG or another, let's trust we get our big man up front, good in the air with decent holdup play.

Work to be done still - the squad needs strengthening - we should start getting positive when that has happened - this is a sign it might, but let's see it. Poyet signing is probably my tipping point to positivity. You can then look at arguably the two best full backs in the league and two future internationals in midfield in Cousins and Poyet and a 3 million Euro striker with loads of pace - which I think is a big thing at our level. a few more of the right quality in and what was weak starts to look very strong.

Now who do we have or will sign to create the multitude of goalscoring chances?

    Creative players wanted. Please apply.

So everything that has happened so far and still no positivity? Not denying that work yet to be done, a lot of it in fact, but frankly this seems a case of moving goal posts (metaphorically). We've signed a highly rated young striker, a decent enough prospect from Arsenal and a proven midfielder in his prime, our best centreback seems set to commit to the future, but because Poyet hasn't signed yet, it's not positive?

We are looking much stronger already than we did last week. There is a long way to go yet but 2 or 3 more signings of the calibre of Buyens/Vetokele and frankly I am expecting midtable as a minimum.

This is key, need a player in central midfield with vision and range of passing, ideally with a bit of pace and the ability to go past a man in the centre of the field, but I'd settle for just a good creative passer for now.

Also need at least an out an out right winger to act in competition/rotation with Wilson and a different option on the left to Harriott - key skill being final ball delivery, not steps overs and over hit crosses (not a dig at Harriott, his pace and tricks can be a real weapon when he's on it, but too many modern wingers want to be Christiano Ronaldo and fall well short, plus we need an alternative approach for games where Callum isn't beating the full back all ends up).

Might not be clear contenders for Promotion this season but we could seriously be one of the dark horses as an outside bet for the Play-Offs

Wowser - how nice to actually spend some decent money on what looks to be an exciting striker.

We are, however, looking a bit lightweight yet overstaffed in the striker department:

    1. Small, fast and dangerous - Igor Vetokele

    2. Small, not so fast, can't score to save his life - Churchy

    3. Small, not so fast, might yet surprise us all by being good - Reza the World Cup star

    4. Biggish, doesn't yet look ready - the Pig

    5. Biggish, hard to believe he will ever be ready (tho' I would dearly love him to succeed) - Polish Pete

So we need a biggish, can play, can score striker - enter CoG?

Pigott and/or PP to be loaned out? Churchy to be sold?
