Well that's good because it won't be long before Luzon goes to Blackpool.

Guy Luzon will have to wait for the Blackpool job because Big Bob is next in the queue.

And for us, Ivan Vukomanovic, is next in the line after Luzon. Then maybe Riga again but then again it might just stop at Vukomanovic.

Where are the conspiracy experts when you need one. They only appear when we know what actually happened and don't need a conspiracy theory. When there is no logical explanation and there is obviously a conspiracy we hear f**k all from them.
  • Where are our Belgium friends? I'd like to hear their take on the whole sorry situation.

Let me give it a go, Riga is short term at Liege, until Peeters takes over in the summer for them before he is then replaced by the return of Luzon to Liege, who is removed as manager of Charlton to make way for the man RD has always wanted at the Valley Marc Wilmots.

From my rather limited French, I gathered that Vukomanovic refused to remain at Liège under Riga. He was Luzon's assistant there, so I wouldn't be surprised if Roly sends him our way sooner rather than later.
Damian Matthew off to Hungary then?

Say what you like about Roland but it's never a dull moment is it!
    Except on the pitch....

I live 25 miles from Plymouth. Attending a game will cost me around £20 plus a fiver for the diesel. I know people who attend. I even know a guy who was instrumental in the supporters movements when it looked like they were going to disappear without trace. Attending a home game at Charlton costs me £25+ and another couple of hundred for hotel and transport. I just don't know.

Riga could not commit to charlton even if we wanted him , he tired Blackpool but again his personal issues made it impossible to work .. Remember he went missing to be with his family !!
Now he is back in Belguim in a decent job and with his family who refused to move to England hence the problems .
If Riga was treated so badly by Roland then why is he working with him again ... Because the personal issues were the real reason Riga left and good on RD who kept him in the loop when a perfect job come up fir him after he proved himself with us

    Absolute loon

I can tell you that most of the Standard fans are shocked. We do not want Riga as coach. When he was our coach, we played the more soporific style of football, there was no passion.

And I really wonder why Riga accepts this after the Charlton episode. That guy does not have any self esteem or?

He worked for the Oystons didn't he?
Roland is a walk in the park after them!

Edit: just reading stuff earlier in the thread that I'm reading in retro. Obviously great and confused minds think alike.

Thanks for that. Of course, he needs a manager he can remove at a moments notice, which means they mustn't be any good. If they look like they are getting things right he has to get rid of them. I can relax now knowing RD is not mad.

What is sad is that Colin actually believes all this crap he comes out with.

Remember he told us Riga was going to run the academy when Paul Hart went to Man City

Them he said he was going back to Milan.

Then he didn't want to stay in England but he went to Blackpool.

In all the doom and gloom at least we have Colin to make us smile

I normally don't take notice of what you say and sometimes think you are a WUM , but I think this is rubbish.

Riga wanted our job in the summer and as NLA states above his son was very critical of RD when Peeters was appointed .

I suspect after his spell last year he would have chosen us over Liege . I understood that Mrs Riga would have come over had there been a contract on offer .I understand he only went back home for three days ,hardly 'personal issues' .I also thought Mrs Riga lived in Milan following his time at Inter and not Belgium.

    Link or source please.
  • Good luck JR. I really wish you all the best.
  • I heard Riga has already asked Roland if he can take Solly, Cousins and Igor to SL.

Roland's reply was to say that he would have to wait 'til he could find us some replacements - from Ujpest Dosza.

Get Riga back now Roland just so this seems bare able, not on a contract till the end of the season, give him a 3 year deal and bring this club some stability !!!!

If Guy Luzon walks through that door the guy you seemed not good enough for Standard then that will be my breaking point with you

I personally couldnt give a shit that he is now standard manager, Just another pointless reason for all your anit RD melons to jump on a bandwagon
    @charltonbyblood

The type of fan that gives us all a bad name. Do one. I've tried to keep quiet all day but Duchatelet is making this club a laughing stock.

Colin. Seriously. Right now. FCUK OFF.

Right now is not the time for such absolute bollocks. Riga's son slated RD on twitter.

Do you think he would have done that if his Dad had been offered the job.

I give up. Where's Ackworth and Nathan Prior for some light relief????!
  • Perhaps Duchatelet thinks Luzon is a better coach than Riga?
He sold €25m of players from Liege last summer which is roughly what he paid to buy us and fund losses.
Liege have recovered to a play-off place after a disastrous start under Luzon. Whereas we have gone from 7th to 18th in less than three months...it's a slow motion train smash!

But RD is missing what is obvious to us and that is the fact that Riga has proved he can work with Jackson, Solly, Cousins and especially Harriott. And is trusted by the fans, media, basically everybody.

And the prize at CAFC is £120m to go up and come straight back down. That was never going to happen this season but the right coach and the right signings over the summer made it a possibility for 2015-16 - just three or four quality players and a fully fit Henderson or replacement if he has injuries...

Thing is that every mistake made between now and March makes relegation more certain and kills off another few season ticket renewals!

I'm not saying any one fan knows all the answers but someone in authority needs to be on site and put in place AND communicate a plan. To me Riga and a couple of signings in January looked like a plan.

I actually believe that Riga could turn us into play-off contenders next season if he was given the right budget and signings.

And that is worth about £20m added to the valuation of the club.

Now is not a time for calling out other posters and fellow fans. I happen to disagree vehemently with some on here but it's a football club over which we clearly have zero influence right now.

We should rise above the temptation to take out the frustration of this powerlessness on each other. And those in a position of leadership with some knowledge or contacts with the club should show some leadership for it looks like it might get worse before it gets better.

The reason Riga wasn't appointed here after peeters is because he knows the club and where we need to strengthen. I'm pretty sure that's the main reason peeters only got a one year contract too.

I'm just starting to not care.
  • Powell must gutted if he'd have waited,as a sacked coach, must have been in the running.
Or maybe being English excludes him from the collective.

Do you not see a problem with that?

If he thinks Luzon, who was "disastrous" for Liege, is a better coach than Riga who saved us from relegation last year then clearly the man is an utter fucking idiot

Get your facts right he was offered the job at charlton but refused it .. His family at the time lived in Milan who did not want to move to London or live in the capital .
    facts from Riga himself
Why don't you get your facts straight? Rather than continuing to make peculiar references to "facts" and regurgitating rumours from days gone by, perhaps you could shed some more light on your claims?

How do you know he was offered the job? Quite confidently, I can say he wasn't, and with quite a degree of certainty too.

First up, let's consider his sons outburst..

I'd seen his sons (rather scathing) comments on Facebook at the time, and I was the one who created the thread here on CharltonLife. To quote:
Greg Riga My dad didn't decide to quit cafc! He really wanted to stay, he was in love this club believe me! This Mr Duchatelet is just ××××.
His son not only said quite clearly that his dad didn't decide to leave the club, he also goes on to say he loved the club and that Roland is a xxxx.

Secondly, your geography doesn't add up either..

The son above works in training at AC Milan, which is in Italy. His son; i.e part of the family that, according to you, apparently didn't want to leave. Coincidentally, Jose himself worked at AC Milan for a stint, and has now decided to work in Belgium again.

    Cheers Colin.
