Jose Riga - New Standard Liege Manager (again)

Good luck Jose!1

I do indeed! RD is operating in isolation and is prioritising his relationship with Luzon over and above the absolute no-brainer that Riga should guarantee survival (again) and, I believe put us on a path to 75 points in 2015-16 if we got lucky and they signed the right players. I have been consistent in my support of the deals done last summer and this could be repeated?LuckyReds said:
Do you not see a problem with that?seriously_red said:Perhaps Duchatelet thinks Luzon is a better coach than Riga?
He sold €25m of players from Liege last summer which is roughly what he paid to buy us and fund losses.
Liege have recovered to a play-off place after a disastrous start under Luzon. Whereas we have gone from 7th to 18th in less than three months...it's a slow motion train smash!
If he thinks Luzon, who was "disastrous" for Liege, is a better coach than Riga who saved us from relegation last year then clearly the man is an utter fucking idiot
Unlike many I have an open mind about Luzon and Liege last season as they were top of their league 12 months back and only screwed up in their final Anderlecht fixture. I haven't watched a single Liege game. I've heard from Liege fans who are seething because of RD lack of comms and the fact they lost out to Anderlect.
Point is RD cashed in and caused a car crash this season over there. His only way out short of a fire sale of the club was to throw Luzon to the lion!
Trouble is we are stuck watching this nonsense and giving the guy a job. When you juxtapose that with Riga's appointment plus zero talent arriving at Cafc this week... Well ffs

Get your facts right he was offered the job at charlton but refused it .. His family at the time lived in Milan who did not want to move to London or live in the capital .Henry Irving said:

Now he is back in Belguim in a decent job and with his family who refused to move to England hence the problems .
If Riga was treated so badly by Roland then why is he working with him again ... Because the personal issues were the real reason Riga left and good on RD who kept him in the loop when a perfect job come up fir him after he proved himself with us
What is sad is that Colin actually believes all this crap he comes out with.
Remember he told us Riga was going to run the academy when Paul Hart went to Man City
Them he said he was going back to Milan.
Then he didn't want to stay in England but he went to Blackpool.
In all the doom and gloom at least we have Colin to make us smile
facts from Riga himself
Now you are claiming Riga was offered the job but turned it down. First time you've ever said that but you got it from Riga himself. Funny you didn't say that was the case yesterday.
You really do have issues about remembering what you claimed to be true yesterday let alone a few months ago.
Carry on posting, you cheer me up at a depressing time.0 -
Yesterday we had our weekly equivalent of MOTD on Flemish TV, with a number of analysts (former top flight players) and off course the subject was raised on SL and the sacking of Vukomanovic. Mind you, these are guys who played for the Belgian national team and the likes of Anderlecht or Club Brugge for years, so they now a lot of the back room discussions on Belgian football. Anyway, conclusion was that RD was talking bollocks and isn't man enough to communicate difficult decisions himself. They said that he's well on his way of harming well established clubs (SL & Charlton - the only 2 mentioned in the discussion) on a more permanent level. Argument for this was: who will be tempted (both manager/coach or player) to come to either of those clubs in the future, knowing that RD takes a piss of well advised efforts to have some progress.
SL was at the 11th place in Belgian PL when Vukomanovic took over, and now is fifth. They applauded the fact Vukomanovic in the end chose not to accept another job within SL's staff. They mentioned BP's declarations on the lack of constructive policy by RD (it was made clear that BP will probably never want to work for RD again). They also talked about Riga and why he eventually took the job: well ... he now takes control of a club, well in sight of play offs and perhaps European football/ Champion's league) ... very tempting indeed if you want to boost your career. It was a serious debate and a couple of analysts spoke out in very harsh words towards RD. Also because only one week a go RD was very critical on the management of Belgium's national football association (rightly so). However, he now proved not to be any better.21 -

You didn't think we were getting all these Serbs on our books for no reason at all, did you?AddickFC81 said:
And for us, Ivan Vukomanovic, is next in the line after Luzon. Then maybe Riga again but then again it might just stop at Vukomanovic.AddickFC81 said:
Guy Luzon will have to wait for the Blackpool job because Big Bob is next in the queue.seth plum said:Well that's good because it won't be long before Luzon goes to Blackpool.

Anyone would be an improvement.Shrew said:0 -
Or maybe he's very brave. If he can't maintain the revival that Vuko achieved (28 pts from 13 games), the Liege Ultras will go thermonuclear. It will be fascinating to watch the results over the next month or two.Sillybilly said:Good luck Jose. I like you but this does make you a bit of a tart!

Not doing too badly. 3-0 up inside half an hour of his first game back0
-
The old manager wasn't sacked because of results though so Riga hasn't got the toughest job on his hands there.0

A 3 - 0 win is not a bad start at all. Shame he's not our manager/head coach.0

Hmm. 4 goal attempts on target vs. 2, so not exactly one way traffic. Another clean sheet for Thuram, otherwise no signs of the Belgian Parachute Regiment, even among the subs. The other team have now lost 7 in a row, all in the league.1

Honestly even without a coach you could win against that team. And in two days there is no way that Riga could have change anything. He only put the names on a sheet and tried to give tactical feedback to the players. The next match will be more interesting to see what he can do.HantsAddick said:A 3 - 0 win is not a bad start at all. Shame he's not our manager/head coach.
BUT the issue we had at Liège was that we have no striker. We just got one so of course it will be easier for Riga.
Imagine that you played the whole season without Vetokele, that's what we did until yestersay.1 -
We've played half of it with an unfit Vetokele, does that count? Seriously, I like Riga and am pleased for him that his first game was a win. Would have been awful if his first game had been a 5 - 0 defeat.0
