When Bournemouth won promotion before the Charlton game... To play Devils Advocate he does kind of have a point. If we have so many employees that one of them has nothing better to do than make a video of our goalkeeper's saves then maybe that money could be used to better effect strengthening the first team squad.
I also agree that any official company statement that sets out to belittle the customer base is the wrong side of professional for me. The 19-0 was a great bit of PR, and was clearly tongue in cheek, this last one wasn't. Also I don't think the two tweets shouldn't be compared as one was from the outgoing communications employee and one from his 'replacement'.
I'm, obviously, not the only one to think like I do as the tweets seem to have been removed now. I don't know Olly, personally, but if he'd worked for any of the companies I have, I suspect that he might have been removed as well.3 -

It typifies our Twitter feed - it doesn't take itself too seriously and is, generally, spot on.

The person that made the YouTube clip (probably took an hour to edit) is part of the media team. How much would someone like that earn? 20k-30k per year possibly?...so about a months wages for a player. Hardly gonna strengthen anything.

Producing video content for fans to watch is literally one of the jobs that the media department is there for! Engaging with the fan base, producing a video they'd want to watch. What "better" things would someone in the comms time be doing?
Their job (those that are still there that is because a lot have already walked out and not been replaced. Thereis still no head of comms to replace Matt Wright) is to produce content that interests customers (us) and so drives traffic to the website (CAFC get paid on how many hits we get which is the main reason we switched to that horrible FL site many years ago).
So someone doing the job they are paid to do is attacked and it is suggested that he and/or his colleagues lose their job because someone wants player signings now.
The spurious reasoning being that if they sack someone in the press team that will automatically mean the club has the resources to sign a player.
Ignores the huge differences in wages from a press officer and a player and that player recruitment rarely takes place in May but hey, the staff are an easy target.
Was Olly's response abusive? No. Most people inside and outside of Charlton saw it for what it was ie a mildly funny put down of a troll. And the tweets haven't been removed as far as I can see,
You can argue that Olly should just let it wash over him but maybe when the press team are short staffed and then get attacked for doing nothing other than their job their can be forgiven for giving a little back.
