Finished up at the Ashburnham Arms which sells Shepherd Neames. It was then time to go home.

Always been puzzled by Meantime's success. The Yakima Red wasn't bad but would only ever go for it as a last resort. Shame. as I'd normally support a South East London brewery and I seem to remember the founder was an Addick.
Seemed to me he was a good businessman, rather than a good brewer.1 -
I stopped going in the Old Brewery as too expensive. Its a lovely spot on a sunny day but at 6 quid a pop on some of them just thought I was getting ripped off.

Yes, enjoyed their Winkle Picker (ABV 4.5 per cent) at the Three Mariners in Hythe last summer. The Good Beer Guide describes it as "an amber-coloured best bitter with some fruit on the finish".I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY said:Has anyone tried anything from the Whitstable Brewery yet?

We have their beer more than other Kent brewery here at The Long Pond. All their ales are excellent. Currently got their Nelson Sauvin on. A NZ hopped golden ale. Very fruity, beer wine one lady called it.I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY said:Has anyone tried anything from the Whitstable Brewery yet?

Did 5 hours at the Kingston beer festival last Friday night at Kingston WMC. Drank some decent beer, but ironically too much to remember which was which. Only £3.50 a pint, £1.80 a half. Worth a visit next year if you like your beer/ale/bitter.0

Nelson Sauvin was developed with support from my old firm, Lion. As a result we got first dibs and used it in a beer called Knappstein Lager. As the name suggest the hop was bred to have an aroma a bit like Sauvignon Blanc, hence the "wine" comments. It's now very hard to come by and one of the most expensive hops a brewer can buy!Riviera said:

Think CAMRA were linked because my mate got a voucher on the door from the organisers, as he has a CIU affiliated card, and the voucher said CAMRA on it.
To be honest it felt cheap as chips as you tended to buy half pints so you could get through more different beer.
Maybe Kingston is dearer as it wants to be posh, even though its not much better than Croydon in my book.0 -
But drinking halves was even more expensive! CAMRA run a campaign against pubs that charge more for half than the equivilent for a pint. So I'd be surprised if it was a CAMRA supported event.0

I went along to the Kingston Festival last Thursday on the first night and thought it was very good, with some interesting beers. A good venue, as well - certainly a bit smarter than that other CIU club I sometimes pop into, the Liberal in Charlton. Only a few minutes from the station and, as EdgeleyAddick says, worth a visit if you're in the area.0

That's the correct way to serve a Pilsner. Two fingers of white head. And yes it is accounted for when measuring out a 500ml or 330ml serving. It tends to settle upwards after pouring, then he tops it up until you have the two fingers' worth of head.
In April I was in friends in Wimbledon and they had Pilsner Urquell on tap. They served it flat, in a straight glass. I was mortified. And it tasted more like the euro beers on the same tap, than the wonderful beer I drink here.

Currently drinking Piledriver from Wychwood (pretty good, but Hobgoblin it ain't). Apparently it was inspired (or at least the Wychwood marketing department felt inspired) by the re-release of Status Quo's first album last year. After the success of Bruce Dickinson's Trooper and the Growler brewery's range of Madness ales, it seems that beer really is the new rock 'n roll.0

Was at the Czech beer fest last weekend.
Not that Prague needs a beer fest but it was effing brilliant. £2.60 entrance fee for the whole 17 days, 42 different beers on at any one time, between £1.20-£1.40 a pint, 4 bands/singers each night, great atmosphere, no hangovers. Can't wait for next year. And I'm a lager drinker!3 -

All beers on tap. The main music tent I think was sponsored so was only serving litres of krusovice but the back tents had 3 bars serving 14 beers & 45kc per .5l, 14 strong stuff including ciders @ 50kc per .3l and 14 @ 55kc per .5l.
There was also American craft beer stall, a wine stall and a spirit/shot bar.

Oh you were here for the Prague beer fest! I thought it was going on in London and couldn't imagine how they got the stuff over there at those prices! Doh ! :-)

I used to drink pilsner Urquell in the Corney & barrow a few years back and it was pricey then. Haven't been in one for ages.
