It's a service that has always been available but only by landlords who can be bothered to provide it.
Now this is not a pop at you - guvnor :-) - but that made me laugh. Another great insight into why the demise of British pubs is often the fault of the people running them.
Service, you say?
Here's how it works in every Czech pub.
You walk into your local carrying probably a 1.5 liter bottle. You ask the barman to fill it. He fills it. That is his job. He pours beer. As an extra service he puts the bottle cap back on for you. You pay and depart. They receive as much revenue from you as if you'd stayed for a couple of hours, while you sit in your garden listening to Finchy & co describing a Carling Cup debacle while being comforted by superb cold pilsner Urquell. Everyone wins ( sometimes even Charlton)
Blimey - JD's are doing well. I wonder if these are 'new' jobs and pubs or take overs.?
Pub chain to create 15,000 jobs
PUB chain JD Wetherspoon is to open 200 new pubs and create 15,000 jobs over the next five years, the company has announced.
Wetherspoon, which already operates 931 pubs and employs 34,000 staff, said the new jobs will be spread across the new outlets as well as at existing sites.
The new posts will include management roles as well as jobs for bar, kitchen and front of house staff.
Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said: "We are looking forward to opening the new pubs, many of which will be in areas where Wetherspoon is not yet represented.
"We are proud to be creating so many new jobs.
"Wetherspoon paid more than £600 million in taxes in our last financial year and this will rise to approximately £1 billion in the course of the next five years."
Best British Beer: - Blue Anchor Spingo Special, Helston, England
Best Supermarket Offering: - Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer, Edinburgh, Scotland
Best Pub (over all): - Golden Lion, Rochford

Best Pub (beer selection): - The Navigation, Nottingham
Best Pub (look and feel): - Ye Olde Mitre, Holborn
Best Pub in SE London: - Richard I, Greenwich
Best Brewery: Fullers
Best Off-Licence: - Utobeer, Beer Cage, Borough Market

AND THE NOT SO GOOD
Worst Beer: Hoegaarden – the same disgusting cloudy vinegar piss it ever was. What on Earth possessed me to give it another go?
Worst Beer Poured: The Guinness at Hush, Southend
Worst Pub: Spotted Dog, Barking
Most Disappointing Pub: The Boot, St Albans. This used to be my Mum's pub, but it was closed when I visited.
Silliest Comment About Beer: Dazzler's one above (sorry), likening the factory produced filth known as Desperado's to beer. Frankly if they charged a penny more than tap water for this chemical effluent it would be daylight robbery.
Blimey Stig1 What an impressive list. I'll have to add, being born in Barking I can say I've never been in a good pub there or anywhere near there.
I have to say though Innis n Gunn to me is a beer too much, like a whisky in a sherry cask... a marriage that worsens both. I'm off to enjoy a Wantsum 1381, lovely traditional IPA which has a touch of the fresh citrussy hop finish that overblown US IPAs have. And Dazzler don't try their lager, the Prerussian is a great name but little else.
Still not made it to the long pond yet. Sorry but we will get there soon Riv. Your Not open later are you?
I believe my stepdaughters friend's dad may have stopped in at lunchtime for a takeaway after we literally just told him about it when he was collecting his daughter. So At least we are sending business your way even tho we haven't been ourselves!

Very impressive Stig....... I will know who to ask for an illustration for our article that Vincenzo is arranging for us for the next trust news....... Do not overdo the 'research' though...... perhaps we need to 'road test' the pub's mentioned.......

No not open tonight. A chap did come in for a take-away today saying he'd just been told about us so thanks Curb_it. Look forward to seeing you and Tavern soon.
Yep, from the days when the ads were far better than the beer. That was the work of the Valley Party agency, BTW. As was Miller Lite, Courage Best, John Smiths and Fosters from that era (85-90). We almost managed to defy the maxim that good advertising can only sell bad products to each customer once

Yep. Goes back a long, long way. When I was a kid, a lot of the local pubs had a small corner bar called "Jug and Bottle". That was the "off" licence - licensed for off premises consumption.
Had the pleasure of going in the Long Pond today at lunchtime. Mike has done a great job of refurbing the place. It looks very smart, with a lovely little snug too. I had a lovely pint from Westerham, met some nice fellers and will definitely be back. What a boon for Eltham Park. If I lived there I'd be moving in.
Nice. Have wanted to try some of the Kona brews for a while now, anyone know of anywhere in the Sidcup area that might stock them?
No mate but we do them at the pub I work at. Jam Circus in Brockley. Its an Antic pub and a few of ours stock them. You could try calling the Woolwich Equitable and asking them if they have it. Any time I get bought a drink its that. I'm gonna have one in 110 minutes and counting
