Good luck to Mike hope this venture is a success.
  • Great to hear. Any pics coming? Can't wait to drop in. Actually a load of us are planning to drop in before a curry between Christmas and NY if you will be open. I'll PM you
  • Good luck with The Long Pond, Riviera.

  • Popped in for a couple yesterday evening.
Beer was first class, good bunch in there and a very nice ambience.
  • Hope it's a big success.All the best.

  • Back in Eltham, and yesterday morning popped into the Long Pond, and met @Riviera. He kindly poured me a taster of his house beer. It's called Pond Life, presumably to acknowledge that there are some Spanners in Eltham. I was a bit sceptical. At 3.4 (?) ABV they would sell it to kids in Prague. But it has bags of flavour, shows you that decent ale doesn't have to be high alc. he also showed me a map where all the Indy breweries in Kent are shown. Must be 30 of them. None of this is news to most of you, but a real good news story for me.
Looking forward to working through the beer list tomorrow evening:-)

    Pond Life is 3.6% ABV.

Here are the beers we had on last night.

  • The Hop Stuff went before I did, and I didn't even get to try it.

Great place. People all know each other, by face if not to speak to, and of course they end up speaking to each other. Instantly enriches a community.

And some you don't want to meet - like the Landlord for instance ;-)

    :-) but he's my sister's neighbour.

One big happy family, is Eltham Park
  • Very nice to have some of the CAS Trust in The Long Pond tonight before their curry at the famous Star of India. Thanks to Prague Addick for getting the likes of Steve Clarke and Steve Perfect to come and enjoy The Long Pond. There were others there too but I didn't get a chance to speak to them.
  • How's the trade going Riviera? Are the good folk of Eltham coming out to support you?

Massive kudos for you for taking it on and I really hope it goes well. If I lived closer I would make it my local - so profits would be up - but it's just a little bit off the beaten for me to pop in casually, but I will make the effort.

    Good luck
  • So far so good thanks Off_it. Obviously the time of year and the novelty effect are helping but the way the local people have embraced us is way beyond our wildest dreams. It took a long time to get open and cost a lot more than I thought but the positive feedback we are getting is simply fantastic.
  • Well done Long pond ( Riviera) you were busy last night, and wish you and the venture all the best. I am going to pop in and visit again on the way to the Valley.

All on stillage served by gravity. You can't have beer served any fresher. That was Christmas Eve, normally have six ales on.

Please introduce yourself next time Ken, glad you enjoyed it.
  • Riviera, do you have any plans to introduce a stout ?
  • What about Lager.

Often have a stout on. In fact tomorrow we will have Whitstable Brewery's Oyster Stout. There is always a dark beer on, a stout, a porter or a winter warmer. Recently had Pig & Porter Slow Black Stout and it was wonderful. Put a cask of Musket Brewery's Powder Burn Kentish Porter last night and it's gone already. We have had milds, IPAs, bitters, pale ales, golden ales, APAs too.

Everyone get down and give it a try. It's a really distinctive place with a clear idea of what it wants to offer. That's what I reckon will make it a long term success. Good community pub but also wortha visit from further afield.

One thing I'm really surprised about. You can fill up and take the draught beer home. This happens everywhere in Czechia, and I love it, but I have never, ever heard that you can fill up draught beer in your own container and take it away. Mike says it has always been allowed under the
Licensing laws. Any of you taken advantage of that?

Have a Harveys of Lewes four pint container that goes everywhere in our campervan for takeouts in local establishments the country over.

It started off with pints of Harvey's but loads of pubs will fill it up for you with various local brews.

It's a wonderful thing. Stumbled down many a country lane with it by torchlight.
  • So is this takeaway possible in every pub? In my day a bottle of light ale was all they would sell you
  • I've no idea on that I'm afraid Prague, I suspect not. The Red Lion in Bromley has cardboard containers to take them away in though and they advertise that, which I have not seen before.

They do some cracking ales, which travel well back to the bandit land of Croydon.
