Not ashes related but I've heard from a number of places that Zafar Ansari is pretty much certain to be taken to the UAE as third spinner...

A year ago Adam Riley was the next big thing...

Gutted that Cook got out before the close. I fear that I'll go all the way to the Oval for 45 minutes of play!

And it's the guess the Lyth score time again. Less than ten I'd say.

    You are a Silly Billy!

    underwhelmed.
Agree with you there.. Whilst he has done well for Surrey I don't think he is quite there with his bowling yet...

However there was an interview I heard with Gareth batty who said in his view Zaf was the best young spinner in the country.. The reason being that Zaf is a thinking bowler whereas now days spinners coming through in this country are coached out of that...
Also for his ability to both attack and defend with his bowling... as again most young spinners in this country are taught safety first.. defend defend defend then maybe attack...

Davina McCall on View from the Boundry. Poor old Johnners must be turning in his grave.

Just got an email from Surrey, mentioning their reusable cups. You pay £1 for one, get a fresh cup every time you return it to get a new beer, and can get your money back at the end.

Environmentally friendly, but also a sneaky way of preventing beer snakes!

Ansari would be taken as third spinner AND as third opener tbf ;)

Thought Cook showed great resilience and concentration today - shame he couldnt get to 3 figures.

never got the hype with riley, and i'm a kent fan. Decent young bowler yes, but no where near ready to be near the england side imo

No bias here of course, but Shane Warne's Ashes XI only contains 4 England players....Root,Stokes,Broad and Jimmy.
No room for Cook or Ali- however Adam Voges makes his way into it!

Lucky our omitted players have a little urn to collect to alleviate their distress.

    Hazlewood - 7

    Oh dear.

    You'll regret this.
In response to pre-Ashes dissing of Hazlewood.

The way Harris bowled in the 2013 and 2013/14 series, his fitness could be a major factor in who wins the series, as England really struggled against him.

    KillerandFlash's post from July 2nd.
Think Harris's loss was a huge blow to Aus.

I'm hoping at least I'll get to see The Urn presented before the rain comes, if we make it that long.

I live about 6 miles from The Oval pointing South west, its looking very dark here - and apparently the weather is coming from this direction.
BBC saying its going to rain from 12 til 5 today , and then piss it down all day tomorrow.
Maybe there is a way out ?!
  • Being England, I expect we'll lose at about five to 12.

Would be funny to scrape a draw because of it though.

I guess if he's going strictly down the order then Voges and Bell at 4 were both poor.

But pick Cook, Rogers, Warner, Smith and Root and move one of the openers down if we're being sensible.

For what it's worth, I'd say Cook, Warner, Rogers, Smith, Root, Stokes, Neville, Starc, Broad, Anderson, Lyon.

Was tempted with Ali's batting but Lyon deserves the spinner's spot.

So I've only got 5 England players, he's not far off - would you really have Bell or Buttler in there? Maybe Finn or Wood over Starc. Johnson has had spells but has mostly been the wrong pitches for his strenghths.

Can't be fucked to play cricket this afternoon. Hoping it rains. So England have a way out too!

According the weather radar on Netweather.TV, the rain coming in from the west is on the outskirts of London and closing in.
  • Can you imagine how tense this weather watching would be if we were only 2-1 up.

    Raining in Kent right now
  • More scandalous than Warne's Ashes XI for me is this:

"The Beard Liberation Front have announced that the 'Beard of the Ashes' title has been shared between Alastair Cook and Mark Wood."

Moeen Ali has been absolutely robbed.

Thank god peter siddle didn't play in the earlier games. Would've been a much better option than hazlewood

Butrler fails again with a crap shot - just lofts it to Mid-off

I bet Lyth scores a century that keeps him in the team for another 5 tests where his average will be 12.

doubt it, bloke looks like he has 0 mental strength. Always looking like a fish out of water. At least buttler looks like he believes in himself when he's out there.
    You sure ?!!!
    yep
    Nope.

The rain won't get here quickly enough, if our batsmen insist on playing lofted drives, instead of digging in.

Indefensible that from Buttler. Really frustrating seeing players do stuff like that when they know the situation.
