We all agree that he's very good on a flat track and The Oval is pretty flat, so it's no surprise to me.

Flat track bully - I keep saying it !

This pitch hasn't been quite so flat. I find the phrase 'flat track bully' to be a trite and clichéd epithet which England fans love to hurl at the opposition's best batsman. Every player struggles more when it swings. Smith has gotten runs in testing conditions before and he will absolutely be the wicket England most desire in The Ashes over the next ten years

    481 All out

    Siddle c Lyth b Finn 1
    Lyon 5 no

How long will Lyth last ? Will he make it to tea ?

I think Oz got an average/good score and England will need to bat well to match them. But match them they must.

    Cook b Lyon 22
    Lyth 8 no

30-1 at tea. Cook was looking excellent, a wicket out of the blue.

I'm afraid that if Lyth's shot selection doesn't let him down then his execution definitely will.

@kin 'ell. Lyth spoons an innocuous delivery to mid on. Atrocious. I would have definitely dropped him after Lords and there can be little doubt, he needs to score a century in the 2nd innings to stand a chance of surviving in this team.

    Lyth c Starc b Siddle 19

    50-2

    Chris Tremlett retires. Real shame.

Shame for Lyth as he finally looked as though might get a few. Times up for him now I'm afraid.

No surprise. Unbelievable that they haven't played Siddle all series.

Please dont let him get a century in second innings - he quite clearly doesnt have 'it' - next cab off rank.

Yes but the wicket changed in the 10 mins change over.

It was superb for batting when they were in and became a minefield when Cook & Lyth walked out.

Sorry, I should explain. Root is the nickname that I gave to Mitchell Marsh.

5 down - sorry, but Bairstow doesnt have 'it' either - would rather have a out of form Ballance tbh.

When Buttler gets out we should call for his exit too. Then Moeen. Maybe not Broad or Finn. Definitely Wood.

6 down - Buttler needs to go have a break too.

The only one who should be dropped, based on today, is Lyth.

    Any other answer is ludicrous.
