anyone watch u-19's v oz under 19's tonight?. dont want to put him on too high a pedastal, but Danny Lawrence of Essex looks one hell of a player - scored 100+ and set up win for England - reminded me a bit of KP, flamingo shots, reverse hits etc. So, could have 2 high class players coming through in Lawrence and Crane.

Seem to remember him scoring a ton in the championship match against Surrey earlier this year! Was getting the plaudits then..
Addict Adict watched the U19 stuff, he mentioned it on the Kent thread. He watches eventhing, that's why he's so knowledgeable.
Whats he doing mentioning England stuff on the Kent thread, that three quarters of us don't read ?!. Presumably to mention the Kent kids (who didn't impress BTW).

That's a bit harsh on our boys. Whilst Davies got out to a somewhat ugly cross batted slog, generally he kept well. As for Bernard, he did go for quite a lot late on but he did bowl the final three overs from one end of the innings and his figures of 3-47 off 10 were as good as any.

Was a bit tongue-in-cheek AA - I only saw England batting.

Played with my nephew for Chingford and now Essex although been in 2nd XI recently
Daniel Lawrence became the third youngest batsman to make a Championship century when he struck 161 for Essex against Surrey at The Oval in April 2015 at the age of 17 years and 290 days. It was only his second first-class game. His chanceless century, part of Essex's 600-plus score on a placid surface, brimmed with panache and self-assurance. In doing so he compiled records - and lots of them: youngest ever Essex first-class centurion, youngest centurion at The Oval, and third on the Championship list, outdone only by Godfrey Bryan and Dipak Patel. He is a product of Chingford CC (where he first opened the batting at 13) and has also played for the Australian club side Newton and Chilwell

Was gonna say to you @MrOneLung your nephew must be a real no 11 with the bat! He came in below monty in the recent Essex vs Surrey match!!

They send in MOL's nephew if they don't want to lose a wicket at the close of play or if they want to save a game. Monty goes to the crease because, otherwise, they would have to bat with ten - although it is debatable which might be better for the team.
I see Rogers is retiring from Tests now too - means they need to replace Rogers, Clarke and realistically Voges, no overnight job.
Ryan Harris has gone obviously plus Haddin and probably Watson too although the former's replacement is obvious for now at least. Add to that the fact that Johnson is 33 as is Fawad and Shaun Marsh is 32 and Australia basically have to find virtually a new squad over the next year or so.
Oz have plenty of bowlers lining up but no batsmen of note.Could be a tough time ahead for them - especially if the other nations take the England route and provide pitches that are not suitable for them.

He did once hold up an end with 42 consecutive dot balls and scored 34 once but reckon Alan Mullally is his batting coach!!
I don't think it would be wise to risk him, especially seeing as we are going to have to replace him at some point. We need to see Finn continuing his comeback and Wood to keep getting big match experience so don't see the point in needlessly risking Anderson.
Disagree, think that if fit Jimmy comes in for Wood, who don't forget will play in the one-dayer's, which Jimmy will be rested from, or would be unlikley to be selected anyway.
Also have read that Jimmy has been bowling at full pelt in the nets, so expect him to be included.
Clarke could rattle off a big innings being his last game. He's a pr^ck in my eyes but is a bloody good batsman. I've got a ticket for day 5 so I'm hoping for play that day.

I think this is the first series to have sold day 5 tickets - therefore, if you think that the average price of a ticket seems to be 100 quid, then over 5 days (on the assumption that The Oval have sold 20,000 paying tickets for each day) - on ticket sales alone they have taken 10 million - and that's without all the extras for food, beer etc.

He's good, but he has nowhere near the level of ability of his predecessors ponting and Waugh who could score centuries through sheer force of will.

No, they have been selling day five for a few years at The Oval, maybe the last two or three Ashes series?

I doubt it - how much do you reckon pretty boy Clarke is going to fancy getting pinned by the short stuff now he is retiring?

He has it in his locker to have a good knock..... I just checked his stats before I carried on typing Ormiston and its his inconsistency throughout his career that has blighted his average and ranking. I think I'm right in saying that You live down there as do I, so you know what he's like and he is a total pretty boy mate, but I don't think he'll shy away from this test, his undoing will be trying to knock the leather of the ball.
