  • I know i'm going to get pelters for saying this , but i'm really not looking forward to the next 5 months of the season, having the ball being passed sideways and backwards , i was pleased when Diego went, but not at the manor of his departure (ie no fee) i really hope i'm wrong, sorry if i've upset anyone.

I don't think you are alone in thinking that.

I'm thinking of doing that one as well. Happy memories there for Harriott who I saw score and grab us a 1-0 not long after he broke into the team three seasons ago. Button had a very good game in goal that day.
  • Glad he is back. Not keen on the way he left; however I am being selfish I do not want us to be relegated. Had enough misery as it is.

arguably we have been doing that for some time

Whilst this is a good move, good player and all that, it's so frustrating that this happens every January and appeases a few fans before the circus starts again in August.

We are in a relegation fight and need players for crying out loud
That's ADL's point, not about the player but the recruitment system and squad set up. The recruiting system and make up of the squad before the season starts surely isn't working? Start of season club brings in the type of players it wants, we're in a relegation battle come January, club brings in players to survive it didn't want previously, end of season get rid of those type of players, new season assemble type of squad they want, we're in relegation battle come January,.... rinse n repeat......
Some fans will be appeased that players are brought in in January without being able to, or wanting to, see the bigger picture.
  • These signings arent exactly showing a bucket of imagination.

Not a fan of DP after the manner in which he left but he was one of the better players in a shite team for that half a season. I'm not excited by this, particularly as it's yet another loan and he's been crap since he left, but it's another player on the books I suppose.

    Meh
  • I'm happy to open up the JC v DP debate again.....
    DP for me !

    Wagstaff without any question!!
Don't anyone mention Danny Green and Wagstaff in front of Henners ffs.........
    Oops  .

  • Welcome back , hope he makes difference as our midfield has been consistently shit all season
  • ----------Hendo
    Solly - Bauer - Johnson - Williams
    ----------Poyet
    ---Cousins------Jacko
    JBG----------------Harriott
    --------Lookman

When everyone is fit doesn't look bad to me

Agree with the backwards and sideways passing. Rarely forward - but maybe that was the team at the time. Happy to give him a second chance and hope he can put his passing skills to good use but in a forward direction!

Tom Hovis is on the next Ryanair from Oslo.

Have we the dough to afford him ?

Yes that rumour does sound a bit half-baked

I bet Mark Warburton would sign him up

He would be a sandwich short of a picnic to turn that down.

take lookman and JBG out. they'll be gone in a couple of weeks. Harriort will go back to being inconsistent. Johnson will be having a mare as he did before. cousins will be completely knackered as will Jackson and solly. Bauer will probably keep getting suspended. Daddy Poyet will take his son away as the unrest around the club will hurt little Poyets delicate feelings and by that point we'll be relegated. cannae wait.

    Nice...

I'd go with a similar line up, dropping Jacko for Makienok to play up top.

Would swap Lookman for Makienok or Vaz Te... Lookman can battle Harriott for the spot on the Left

With Reza coming off the bench
  • Nah, just not funny tho
  • The only reason Poyet would often pass sideways or backwards was because it was impossible for the likes of Marvin Sordell and Simon Church to get into positions where he could provide them service.

I don't necessarily know if we have solved that problem completely, but I'm excited to see him work with the likes of Lookman, Harriott and Gudmundsson.
  • Perhaps Poyet needs us more than we need him at the moment.

He wasn't playing much at MK and he won't get into the hamsters side.
  • Poyet’s original introduction into Charlton’s first-team back in January 2014 came in similar circumstances to that which the club find themselves in now.

Fighting to maintain their status as a Championship club, Charlton were strengthened by the youngster’s emergence before securing an 18th-place finish under Jose Riga and then assistant Karel Fraeye.

And the Uruguay U20 international says he is fully prepared for the battle which awaits him this time round.

“I know what we have to face in the next couple of months,” explained Poyet.

“I’m excited. We did it last time I was here and we finished really well. I’ve been training with the lads and we’ve got a good set of players here so I’m confident if we do the right things we’ll pick up results and we will be fine.

“It’s about getting results, picking up points and staying in the Championship. I’m excited and, hopefully, we can get some good wins, especially at home, to get all the fans together with the team like we did a couple of seasons ago and stay up.”

The 20-year-old added: “I’ve played 20 games this season, plus the five with West Ham in the Europa League, so I feel fit and I’m ready.

“The gaffer put a good training session on this morning and I’m feeling good.”

Meanwhile, Poyet insists that he understood the supporters’ disappointment following his departure in 2014, but hopes the fans can get behind him and his teammates as the Addicks look to turn their season around.

“I don’t expect the fans to welcome me with open arms,” he admitted.

“It would be nice, obviously, but I don’t expect that. I just want to help the club and my teammates and I want to make sure that Charlton stay in the Championship.

“This is a big club and the minimum it deserves is to be in the Championship

Hence why I said it is a good move....

It's frustrating that they make these moves every January to avoid relegation. Why not make decent signings in August, so we don't even get into a relation dogfight?
    Two words: Ahmed Kashi

We wouldn't be signing Poyet now if he wasn't crocked
    so true

Diego Poyet revealed his delight at making his return to The Valley after re-joining the club on loan on Monday afternoon.

The academy graduate made his Addicks debut during a hugely impressive 2013/14 season which saw him named Player of the Year, before leaving to joining West Ham United in the Premier League.

But after being presented with the opportunity to return to the club which he first joined as an 11-year old, the midfielder admitted he could not wait to get started in the red of Charlton once again.

“It feels good to be back,” said the midfielder.

“Karel Fraeye first made contact with my agent and straight away I was really excited about the idea.

“I spoke to him and we got it done as quickly as possible. I’m just looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I was a little bit nervous last night, but excited about coming in and seeing the boys. I didn’t tell any of them that I was coming in, so it was a bit of a surprise to some of them seeing me pull in this morning!

“It’s been really nice to see everyone, including staff who have known me over the years, so it’s been really nice.

“I’ve finished my first training session, I really enjoyed it and I’m glad to be back.

Reckon this would have been a nice lift to some of the players seeing him turn up out of the blue :)

Yes a nice lift after it had given them a good kick up the arse!
