Would be disappointed if we went near convicted crook Steve Evans.11

I'm currently on holiday in Italy, sporadically logging in to see who our new manager is. I should know better really and not bother!3

I'm getting to point where I would take anyone half reputable. Rather that than another network reject who will inevitably take us down again.0

Even though we had a head start on all of them and could've saved ourselves the trouble by appointing a proper manager 12 months ago.colin1961 said:

This is not a "Colin" dig so I apologise if it comes across as this because I do listen to a lot of things you say, but that has to be crap. What time of the year a manager is appointed is completely irrelevant, contracts or not. Players yes. Managers no. Managers are sacked and hired all year round. I agree with you that lost of clubs trying to fill positions at the moment which is probably holding things up ( or simply because nobody wants to work for the regime). But because they want to wait until the end of June? Really!!!?colin1961 said:

So go on holiday during a crucial part of the season, then return to work and continue to do no work whatsoever.
For Katrien it is all one great big junket, and Charlton Athletic is the discarded toy she intends to get round to some time when she's finished choosing her summer outfit.
As well has having no qualifications to short list and choose a manager, Katrien with her on the hoof delusional initiatives, and her afternoon starts, really does not like to graft.
I really do believe there is a culture of sheer bone idleness that pervades our club. A perfect storm actually, incompetence, idleness and delusion.

Part of me is enjoying watching the train crash, then I wish it wasn't my club! Happy for this shower of proverbial to continue if it accelerates the Belgians sodding off.1

Doubt that they're waiting it out just for the fun of it, but if they have options there's got to be less pressure on their decision at this time of year.colin1961 said:

Normally managers don't have a number of vacancies to chose from so at the moment they can be fussy ... Plus of course holidays most players , managers are away till middle of June0 -
We need someone in place to assess the current players likely to be at The Valley next season, to work with the new chief scout and CEO to identify players. Find his feet at a new club. Every day that passes makes his job more difficult.colin1961 said:

Our attempts to appoint are a farce.

We need someone now. We needed someone weeks ago. I'd say - please not Steven Evans - but i'm not sure how much it matters or how much I care while Roland is the boss.
Just to double-check, the lad from the club shop definitely doesn't want the job, does he??3 -

I agree players wait until June as that's when their contracts generally expire and they are free agents July 1st. But you didn't say managers are on holiday. You said they wait until the end of June same as players. We may be splitting hairs here. I'm just saying managers don't wait until the end of June because they don't want to commit until then. If you are out of work you look for work regardless of holidays because you might not be able to afford to not be available. Chris wilder didn't wait until the end of June neither has mourinho.colin1961 said:

Very different to players and their contracts.3 -
Everyone saw this coming from a long way back, with the exceptions of Mandy two-names, who still thought relegation would be avoided even when we were mathematically down, and Roland, who admitted (truthfully for once) that he had no plan for relegation.
Logically, we should have been weighing up options in mid march when it was obvious we were clearly in the mix to go down. Simply to chat with Riga what he would want and need if the inevitable happened, and to sound out alternatives if not. Instead, we had a few soundbites about 'learnt from mistakes', one credible interviewee who scarpered, and since then it's clear we have been chasing our tails. This is not coincidence. People have seen what's going on here, and anyone who knows football, knows the model in place at the Valley is a failure, no matter how many squirrels pop up at the Observer conference demanding to know why Charlton fans regard their owner as a disaster. Add to that fact the better managers don't want to work for Rolly and Katie, there seems to be a fear of how they will controlled if they are silly enough to sign up. The general impression is that there are a series of out of work managers out there who have been approached, and regard our job as the ultimate option if all else fails. Would you go on a date with a covicted serial killer who said he's not going to be naughty any more?
Plus to judge by Rolands garish remarks in St Truiden about foreign owners, which was either the workings of a spectacularly crass idiot, or someone who takes pleasure in insulting his customer base, Roland seems quite happy to run the club as a last option. He could have aimed for the millions Hull are oing to enjoy next season, but he preferred cheap signings, and is going to lose a lot more money next term - and deservedly so.20 -
Colin worded it badly. He didn't mean managers wait until the end of June. He meant they are not in a rush as there are a number of opportunities.
Seperately, players won't commit themselves until the end of June.1 -
As said I wasn't Colin bashing like others do. I just disagreed with post and explained so.Covered End said:Colin worded it badly. He didn't mean managers wait until the end of June. He meant they are not in a rush as there are a number of opportunities.

Congratulations to everyone who's contributed to getting this thread up to 46 pages despite nothing actually happening since it started.
However, things seem to have gone a bit quiet over the last few days. With that in mind, if you happen to be at a loose end at the moment, please could you undertake one of the following important tasks:
- Set the bookies into panic mode by sticking a tenner on either Kit Symons or Sean O'Driscoll to be our next manager;
- Tweet that you've just seen Dougie Freedman buying some bin liners and a new ironing board in Sainsburys on Woolwich Road;
- Claim that you've just seen Steve Kean walking into an estate agents in Mottingham.
